I was curious as to why the author didn't mention the British reserves coming up with Cornwallis from Philadelphia. Nor two of Washington's columns that collided in the fog and retreated. It might be overstating the case to say that, at the point Washington's attention was diverted by the British force at Chew house, the Americans were winning the battle . The initial attack at Airyhill had succeeded in driving in the British outpost line at Airyhill but the attack lost impetus and the retreating British units were able to regroup until joined by the reserve. PS Wemyss is pronounced 'Weems' (A locality in Fife).
