      They need to sue them for being so stupid and unethical. If a $1400 phone cannot even take a few fall then what’s the point. Stupid research has to go in making these stupid phones durable. It’s so annoying they say strong glass for every version of corning gorilla glass and then it breaks so easily

      @@electrology lol they never claimed it doesn't shatter, there's plenty of different types and strengths of glass for all kinds of applications. gorilla glass is the most common company that creates glass for tech products. If they put glass from say a drinking glass in your smartphone screen that thing would shatter first time every time. It's just a strong glass but glass is glass.

      Really ? I always thought it does protect a bit. My screen protector always breaks but the screen doesn't. Maybe I'm just lucky ?

      @@noka5730 what you do have is a glass screen protector (otherwise known as a screen guard). That does offer some protection against drops. What comes on the S20 is a factory installed plastic screen protector.

      Glass screen protectors work as they take the shock wave first and break, reducing shock that gets to the glass screen under, they work to a good extent, it's simple science. And not the plastic screen protector she was using.

      Bad design! Think about it. They think they are making the phones thinner, but the required case makes it as thick as a 2009 phone. Doesn't it make more sense to make a tougher case that does not require a case ?
      Gorilla glass is Very tough when the proper thickness is used. And it is not that much Thicker. Older smart are better for that reason.

    It would be great that for the next drop test Vanessa uses the dropping machine that was used for the iPhone 11 drop test

      yup, exactly this. doing tests but not being consistent in the testing method is dumb. Also, she cant even hold the device level when performing the drops. Oh let me do a face down drop test now, but she holds the phone side ways crooked so the phone lands on the edges. Real smart, CNET.

      Glass is glass. We can put plastic on the back, but then customers will complaint about scratches. Since scratches happen more often, and glass feels premium, glass is the way to go. Just don't drop your phone.
      Manufacturers can but diamond on the back, but it will be so much expensive that no one will buy the phone in the first place.

      Actually, sapphire has a higher hardness, but at the same time is more brittle. Meaning that the vibrations of a drop could lead to the screen shattering little fragments all over the pavement!

      @@jk12324 I doubt that. Review units typically have to be returned to the OEM after a while. That would be Jessica's S20 and maybe 1 or 2 others.
      The ones they drop-test are either paid for by sponsors (in exchange for advertising), or purchased by CNET themselves.

      Aaron Amaral Yeah eventually that will fail too. Because Samsung chooses curves in front its higher risks for damage. I recently replaced my front screen and the actual screen is worth 100 bucks on ebay

    There's no point in these drop test there are people who don't need a case but unless you have a ruggedized phone no modern phone will stand up to this type of abuse and if it does you're just lucky

    Honestly I think Samsung should've put more effort in making this phone more durable, I mean u r paying 1400 bucks, and it can break easily from 3 feet drop!!!

    Why must the entire backs of phones be glass? Why can't they just have a small circlular glass piece for the wireless charger and the rest be a more durable material?

    If you think about it the phone didn't really fail because after all, phone manufacturers are no longer selling us phones but cameras with a phone built-in, and, the cameras did not fail nor break at all on the S20

    The camera bump glass didn't break because its a small piece of glass which is harder to break than a piece of big glass

    The drop test of the naked phone are great. Now add a case like 99% of us are going to do and drop it and see what happens. That is the test I would really like to see

    It seems to be a camera trick designed to make iphone look great.
    It has two cuts. One shot the lady dropping the phone, and the other separate shot, the phone dropped from 1000 meters above!
    Why can't they show us the whole scene. Makes me wonder...

    What is surprising about this? This is kinetics and physics. You need a quality cellphone case which distributes and redirects the force.
    When we move onto nano materials in construction we could solve this problem.

    the camera on this phone, shows that they could make it all alot stronger. i say that because they don't mind replacing the regular G6 glass. but they don't wanna be changing out super expensive camera lenses on a warrentee

    There is silica on the road which is the same material from which the glass is made of. It will surely scratch and crack the glass of any kind.

    They need to remove the camera bump by making the phone thicker. They need to do this by increasing the battery size and increasing the thickness of the gorilla glass. Every year they upgrade the gorilla glass number but reduce its thickness on the phones so essentially more brittle.

    You're not paying for a durable phone. You're paying for aesthetics and functionality. Who in their right mind wouldn't put a case on a $1500 phone?

    OK , now there is other test you really did forget , and that is mica/you can call it the Laminate used for furniture - just a mild drop from "1mm" then touchscreen boom. Real experience about gorilla glass.

    I wouldn't be mad if companies went back to making phones out of some plastic on the back (maybe with a glass spot for wireless charge in it). I prefer scratches over breaks on the back (cheaper manufacturing costs too)

    glass absorbs the shock. You can get the glass replaced for like 23 bucks if you have insurance.

    So the prominent reason behind cracks is curved edges unlike flat edges like camera glass is more rigid.
