AMAZING CUSTOM KNIFE - Mammoth Tooth & File Work!

  • Check out this amazing custom rendition of a Buck 110 that I created for a client. The factory scales are replaced by this stabilized real mammoth tooth, and the whole knife is thinned slightly, giving a more slim profile. Lastly, the knife has hand-filed vine work running entirely along the lock-bar and blade, creating a masterpiece of a knife.

    Wow, the other day I left common that it was almost a crime removing the original scales, but as I can see you do professional work and some of these I think they’re called. Billets are beautiful and somewhat expensive, but the artistry is incomparable. Keep up the good work

    Beautiful knife, mammoth tooth is probably the most difficult natural material to work with since they're brittle and tend to crack if not careful, but when done right they look just stunning on knives

      Agreed, super delicate to work with! I was afraid of it crumbling the entire time!

    We find a few mammoth teeth every summer, and a bit of busted up teeth, too. The stuff is hard, almost like rocks, it seems. I wore out about twenty 1x30 80 grit AO belts making a beautiful heart pendant. The tooth wasn't brittle, just dang hard.
    Nice knives, good craftsmanship.

    The scales are one thing, but that file work is absolutely fascinating! I keep coming back to this over and over. The color combination of the scales and the brass is dead on. I discovered you on your TV show and have been checking out your TH-cam ever since. Excellent work on everything you put your hands to! I've already done some restoration on a couple of my Great-Grandfather's old tools after watching you go at it. Look foe war to your next one.

    Dude, hahah crafting and doing art while listening to JRE is what i love to do too hahha! Its funny, cuz i just got bit with a knife bug about 2 months ago, and i got a couple cheap stiletto knives from various knives suppliers online. I bought files and a dremel, and a sharpening stone and have been obsessed with learning how to engrave metal, and file artwork onto the knife handles and blade and have been practicing file work on my cheap stilettos , until i really like how my one stiletto turned out and took a brave step and finally worked on my one and only (so far) high quality knife which is a beautiful, classic, buck 119. So i went at it, i gotta say, im stoked with how it turned out!!!! STOKED!!! I did this zig zag type groove thing that is on the back of the blade on the flat part, and they’re roughly spaced around 1/4” apart and they stagger up the back of the blade, and then, i thought i would just mark a line in between the staggering grooves. It looks really cool. But ya, im like you where i pick a good podcast, whether its JRE, old stern clips on youtube from the artie years, or the church of whats happening now, and get in the zone of crafting. This is the first time im seeing a vid of yours, and i like your stuff. if you can, please do tutorials and tips on all your knife knowledge like tips on how to file different designs and patterns, how to change the scales, how go maybe modify knives, etc, Just any tops you have on knife customization, that would be awesome cuz i really want to attempt get good at customization

      @kyle_noseworthy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Sebastian, skills should never stop being honed. An argument could be made that it has taken my entire life thus far to be able to do this. The development of my creativity, ingenuity, motor skills, discipline and attention to detail, the types of tasks I would carry out while just a child.
      In my opinion, you should never start something 'just to make money'. That almost never works out. Find something you really love to do, and then you'll hopefully have enough passion to master it, because that's what it will take.

    Beautiful job 👍 As i live in the UK the slip joints are typically what i carry as that's what we're legally allowed to, nothing locking, i have carried Buck knives in the past when i was a lot younger and more resistant to being law abiding, that two blade one i fancy getting next, do you think it would be possible to turn a lock back into a slip joint?

    • @kyle_noseworthy
      @kyle_noseworthy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think I would leave the UK based on their knife legislation alone... I feel for you! Hmm, I'm not sure about converting the blade to a slip joint. I have a theory on how it could work with minimal work. I'd have to test it out!

    I really enjoy the knife skills I've learned from this channel, but WHY does every person that teaches carpentry/woodwork/mechanics have that deep seeded need to push their Politics? It's fucking annoying. I don't hate Jordan Peterson, and usually agree about 85% of the time, but people like me just want to learn techniques, and not get a passive aggressive attempt to make me vote like them, or believe in god the same way they do. I suppose their is a price to pay for my free education here, but I'm just being open about the fact that some people get turned off by agendas.
