It's actually the most realistic way to get large payloads into orbit cheaply, and could be built with fairly old tech. It would be cheaper, easier, and safer than all of these ideas people are trying. (Arguably even than a space elevator.) It's just... slightly insane at the same time. ;)

The funny thing, is that the team who made it really just wanted to go on a grand cruise of the solar system. They never wanted to make it into a weapon.

Thunderbirdlead I've done basic mock-up Orions up to 100m pusher plate size. Ksp physics really starts to struggle. Thrust in vacuum is provided by the propellant shaped charge component of the nuclear pulse units.

The drive was intended to push a MUCH more massive spacecraft!
It's great with the G effects enabled in KSP. The little "blacking out now" meter jumps up for each kerbanaut and then drops back, and repeats

An interesting mod, useful for the interstellar mods. The bigger engine could get you to 0.1 speed of light, or more.
