The Traxxas BL-2S Stampede 4x4, Slash 4x4, and Rustler 4x4 desperately need a speed upgrade. We install a 13T pinion into the Stampede 4x4 to see how it performs and to see if there are any downsides.

These 2s lines look pretty sweet a lot faster than I expected for 2s, really glad Traxxas came up with an answer to their ageing builds like the old brushed models, and 2s is more than enough for most backyard bashing ect, Very cool!! Thanks
I know this is an older video. But tgis is why I love your channel its full of great info. That 13 tooth really helped. And thanks for the links to parts.
I keep telling myself...self you already have a modified 800 dollar stampede 4x4 you dont need this grrrrrrr lol great video 👍
Just swap what you have in that other POS and into the new version of this POS lmao. Either way, you end up swapping out traxxas's shit electronics and other parts.
haha
You know the only Traxxas I’ve owned is the Gen 1 Rustler and the Mini Summit back in the day but I’ve had my share of fun playing with the X Maxx but not until the Maxx, Sledge and XRT came out did I get a bit interested in Traxxas agin. And it would have to be the V2 Maxx because of how bad the Maxx initially handled. I guess what I’m trying to say is Razor, would you be able to survive without any Traxxas rigs in your collection? 😂
@@williamperri3437 yeah, I'm not really the kind of person that feels like I need any particular brand or car. I'm good with all brands.
@@RazorRC Razor, I’m gonna have to respect your words and take your word for it but secretly believe you know Team Associated, Mugen, Tekno, Serpent, Losi and Arrma all handle better 😂 👊 I do want a XRT or Sledge though, I must admit. That Maxx is just too expensive and too much work to get it dialed in but I may make a move One day when I find one used and set up right in good condition. Ya know, come to think of it, I can’t remember if you ever reviewed the Redcat MT10e or the Team Redcat.
I'm going to drop in Castle Copper Head ESC with 1415 2400kv motor. I'll be upgrading drive shaft to Traxxas aluminum and buying the performance hoss center diff to handle the power. This will be a Hoss killer when I'm done.
I'd love to hear how it comes out.
nice, def a must do. and its simple and cheap. keep doing some upgrade videos on this. thanks!
I went from a 13 tooth to a 16 on my slash Bl-2s as well. It can handle it. Anything more then that I would only use for on road but definitely makes it faster without killing it on the low end
Great first upgrade! Cheap too.
those are the best!
Wow, that very inexpensive mod really woke this car up! Great tip! It was pretty boring box stock.
That is a needed upgrade👍
definitely!
cool upgrade and awesome run
Random question for RAZOR RC....I would like to know what brand of EC5 PLUGS do you use? The ones I've bought are literally impossible to get the metal connectors seated into the plastic plug. I even bought a special hardened punch just for this process still cant get them in without beating them to death.
I use cheap ones from Amazon. Look at the plugs and make sure you’re pushing them in the right way, some go in from the front, some the back.
Thanks for the advice. You are my go to channel for anything RC that you happen to have a video for.
Cool
was not expecting 3 teeth to make that much difference, but it looks like it has really livened it up. could probably go up a few more before it causes any heating issues
Do you have a video changing the pinion gear?
It should come with the 13T out of the box imo. I think these vehicles are meant more to replace the XL-5 line for beginners, so the lower gearing somewhat makes sense, since beginners should start out slower, but they should at least include a 13T pinion in the box.
I’m gonna get the BL-2S system for my Bigfoot. The Titan 12T will melt itself on the 19T pinion during the summer, but the BL-2S won’t. I’m only planning to run it on 2S, so there’s no reason to get the VXL Velineon system. It would just be paying $70 more for a 3S system that I wouldn’t run on 3S.
Is a new pinion required with the spur? If so then which one
Did the same mod to mine, after a while of driving it started to cogg i dont know why, in realy new to the hobby. I was driving on both grass and dirt.
Awesome beast 💪
Where is this awesome park??
Nice quick/easy upgrade. But, for the fixed gear adapter part, can you confirm if it’s really TRA9090 that we need? After looking at the pictures, I am wondering if it could be TRA9090X instead? Thanks.
either should work. I'm using 9090.
Thanks for the answer. I will be driving often on grass. Should I consider upgrading to a 12T pinion instead? If so, do I need a different gear adapter? Thanks.
Yeah, but how long will these brushless motors with big holes for those built-in brushed style fans in there last? Longer than brushed for sure, but that grit is gonna get in there. They're gonna need a lot more maintenance. Opened up constantly, grit removed, sprayed out and bearings checked. They should have made these closed with external heatsinks and fans. It's like a punishment for not getting the higher end Hoss.
I disagree. Maintenance is not a bad thing. The vents and fans keep it cooler than a sealed motor, without needing to spend $35 on a heat sink & fan. Not to mention the fact that Traxxas has released a BL-2S 2WD Slash now, which wouldn’t properly fit a heat sink & fan. That was always and issue for the VXL 2WD vehicles, they had little to no way of dissipating the motor’s heat. This motor will take more maintenance (probably opening it and cleaning it out every 10-15 runs) but the pros outweigh the cons in my personal opinion.
@falcondragonslayer Attention to details do matter. If a heatsink won't fit with a Slash out the box, then perhaps it was their best decision for these once brushed models. There does have to be some consistency. On the other hand, yeah, maintenance is good, but typically, (from what I've seen) customers with these particular lower tier models visit their LHS to have it all done for them. I just figured one more thing, like fussing with a more vulnerable brushless motor would be a pain in the hind end for hobby shops. I saw my LHS replacing a brushed motor for a customer a few days ago....I'd hate to imagine them having to fuss even more to maintain that opened up brushless one. Some people just won't maintain/fix their own. I realize it's getting business, but hobby shops can and do get swamped with too much.
I figure that Traxxas anticipates selling these brushless motors to these types of customers on a continual basis, similar to the brushed. In other words...planned obsolescence.
dont really see the point of downgrading from a closed 3s motor that can easy handle 4s aswell to a open 2s system 🤔
Nice vid man backglips pretty good for 2s
Yeah for sure
OK, not too bad. It does look like it just got it into the fun speed range.
