    Just a personal opinion, but aren't we comparing two softwares with a totally different intent? Figma has a bunch of prototyping capabilities along with the whole design suite.
    Protopie is mainly built to make prototypes super interactive. No other software comes close in terms of prototyping with Protopie.

    • @Mizko
      @Mizko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! But many designers aren’t aware of other products that can offer more than Figma’s prototyping capabilities.

      Actually I think UXpin might be better than Protopie especially since you don’t have to rely on importing from another tool.

    I've been using protopie for some days now
    it's a fantastic tool but it has some minor and few major problems that could be easily fixed
    liked you can't see the changed state of your object after interaction and your only way is the preview that is not editable and it's kinda frustrating to set interaction changes just with digits and use preview to check the outcome (it should have a preview point on the timeline like video editing apps like premiere and after effects)
    another problem is when your timeline is too long and your monitor is not much big (like a laptop or MacBook) you can't navigate the timeline and your only option is to set an interaction start delay to where you have the timeline and then drag that to where you want the timeline (they just need to add scroll option to timeline)
    and one more problem is when your record your preview on your PC, in complex animations recorded video is very laggy even in i7-12700 and it's bad coding and development of the app because there are resources to use but it will use very little of it (like 10% of CPU)
    these were the most frustrating problems that I faced and there are some other minor problems too.
    I hope you can send this comment to them or ask them to contact me for more specific comments.
    anyway, it's an amazing tool to use but it can be much better.

    I always have a hard time with the line between design and prototyping. Because I design and code I often design in Figma and then do the prototype in React or Vue. If I do that in between step I would think a tool like Framer would be better because it can make basic React components and I can manually code up the rest as necessary. These in between tools are tough for me to invest in.

    • @TwoLeggedTriceratops
      @TwoLeggedTriceratops ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's for designers that want that extra layer of realism to their prototype. Certainly if you have the skillset to do both design and code then this layer would seem redundant and you could create a realistic "prototype" directly in code or through a "no-code" app. I do think that eventually Figma will evolve and naturally incorporate a lot of ProtoPie features in, and it's for that reason I will probably skip on ProtoPie.

    I think the biggest downside is their lack of a layout engine. They don’t have grids if I recall and they don’t have auto layout which makes building in it a hassle.

    • @Mizko
      @Mizko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grids and Autolayout are for final designs. Prototyping is an entirely different use case. You prototype to de-risk complex projects, so you don't have to go into development to do usability testing.

    • @chidorirasenganz
      @chidorirasenganz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Mizko Right but you want your prototypes to be very sharp looking. The spacing and alignment should be on point in order to make the prototype higher fidelity. Since for some designs like those who require text inputs have to be redesigned in Protopie, it would be nice to not have to manually handle alignment and spacing.

    And previewing Figma PTs is really easy with their Figma mirror app.
