The best sounding, playing LP style guitar on the market that doesn't cost $3,500, and you can't buy it because of the headstock? You didn't even play it....smooth move, Ex Lax.
I bought the Eastman T486B. It is Murphy Lab Custom Shop quality for a fraction of the price of an ES 335. Seymour Duncan P90s do it all, from smooth jazz, to screaming Alvin Lee. Why in heaven's name would I drop upwards of $8K for a Gibson when I can own something exponentially better for under $2K?
I own an SB59v, SB55v, SB55dc/v (with Wolfetone P90 Meaner), T386 (with upgraded Wolfetone pups), and an E10P. They are, hands down, the best guitars I own, better than my Nash T-63, Jeff Beck Strat or Rick 360-12. The quality is simply incredible for the price point. My T386 and both SB55s cost less COMBINED than one ES-335.
I sold both because I needed the $, but at 1 time I had a gibson les paul trad pro v and an eastman sb59v. The headstocks are very similar in my opinion. So much so that I wondered why Gibson hadn't sent them a cease and desist. They are much more like a gibson shape than either epiphone lp shaped headstock. Just mt 2 cents worth.
i hear that they sued a bunch and the courts have decided that certain aspects can sue and other can not, so since these court papers are public I think, other companies can just go by what the court said
I have an SB57N and its been great. I chose that over a white LP custom. If the headstock bothers you, then get something else that visually suits yours needs? If you want an excellent playing and sounding guitar, get the Eastman.
There are guitarists, and then there are people who buy guitars. People who buy guitars are more worried about the esthetics, or the name on the headstock, than they are about tone, quality, and playability. Guitarists can choose their instruments blindfolded, and not care about a headstock design or name brand. But then, that's why the big names are so successful Guess who YOU are? BTW, many of us actually love the Eastman headstocks (along with the professional qualities).
That was funny as hell! I just bought one and and can't believe how fantastic it is. Having owned 4 Gibson custom shop jock straps, I'll take this maxi pad all day long.
I tried a 59v last week, and its the best guitar i have ever had in my hands. Highly recommend to try one out, especially with the varnish finish. It feels like a well loved old friend, and i cant stop thinking about that guitar. Will probably get one within the next few weeks. Oh and you dont see the headstock when you play 😉
I have an 59/v as well, as good as my 2021 R8. Both amazing, but considering the price of the Eastman is a no brainer. And yes, love the Antique varnish feel too and look.
I agree. A bad headstock ruins a guitar. There's another LP brand, top notch guitar, plays amazing. But the headstock looks like a camping shovel. (Heritage)
I honestly don't have an issue with the heads stock on my Eastman AR371CE which I love a lot! The acoustic sound of it resonates and just really never thought the gheadstock was ugly nor did any of my friends even insinuate it being ugly. The brand name "Eastman" on the headstock is simple and says a lot abnout the guitar if especiually jazz players who very are familiar with the brand.
I got my eastman e10 ss acoustic a month ago (after 8 month of waiting, which was fine for me) and I am very happy with it. It really sounds great and the quality is awesome. it was worth the wait. I would recommend: go for it!
They have to make it different to avoid litigation. It doesn’t bother me at all. The nib they take off will make the corner of the headstock more resistant to severe chips or breaks there. In fact it doesn’t bother me so much that I just ordered an Eastman
I love you - boy how much I need to laugh! Now I've seen this video before! I can recall that tortuous journey of experimenting with guitars. The more you know, the less you want to know, you just want your own personal inspirational instrument, yet it seems money isn't an issue for you; but of course if you're going to spend it, you better feel good about the aesthetics 🙄 .. Eastman aesthetics are fine! A well made guitar covers a multitude of sins. You are so funny in this video you, take up the strain. Crucial release, laughter 😊 ❤
I feel for you Danny. I already have an Ibanez Jem 7V, and keep looking at the new PIa, but those over ornate pickups and no monkey grip just put me off. When i compare them side by side, i just can't pull the trigger on buying the Pia. All i can advise is keep looking, if that headstock turns you off, then don't buy one. That perfect guitar is still outhere just waiting for you.
Used heritage h-150 standard! This seems the route you should go! Its the route I am going! Played the dirty lemon burst last weekend in a Guitar Center and its just a great instrument. Its like buying a kia or hyundai though...if you buy new the value collapses the minute you walk out the door so the key is to find someone who bought one but never played it...They go for around 1700-2000 used on reverb.
Yea. The reason i did not buy a Stanford Vanguard jazz box. Probably go for D'Angelico , D'Aquisto or some of the Peerless models. That headstock is a piece of Art.
I posted this on one of your other posts , i think it fits here as well Heritage guitar are closest to a gibson it is a bunch of workers from a original factory in Kalamazoo who bought the factory and original luther machines and build to old gibson spec. They make some of the best guitars out there and they are priced about same as gibson..Collens make great guitars but expensive but both have headstocks that are not as accustomed to like gibson it comes down to if you are willing to buy and pay a lot of money for a reg cnc guitar a guitar just for the headstock or weather you want a quality build...
That's nonsense! The end of thn headstock flares out and then they've taken a tiny bit off the corner, not a big chunk like the old Epiphone at all. You've magnified that corner so that it initially looks like that but it's not like you're describing it. Pull back and show the entire headstock and there's more similarity to the Gibson headstock than the Epiphone.
my sb59v goldburst is magnificent & only 7.5lbs! lollar pick ups sound amazing, just all around perfection!!! Blows the R9 I played a few weeks ago and that thing cost $8200. Lol
I’ve just bought the vintage version of Eastman sb59 the best guitar I have ever owned and I’ve had plenty over the years. Are you buying a guitar or a headstock this is a no brainier buy the thing you will not regret it.
I have three Collings and three Eastmans. The Eastmans are on par with the Collings for a quarter of the price. They blow Gibson out of the water (my 335 is a joke compared to the MX 186)-I couldn’t fathom buying a Gibson when Eastmans are accessible.
I have the sb59. I know that everybody have their own way to see things... yet I think you should get one and try it at least and then we will see if you will care about headstock.
Just got a SB58tv with lollar p90 in neck and imperial humbucker. I love Gibsons but this Eastman is the best single cut LP you can buy for the money, also i just compared my head stock to my Gibson head stock and to my eoiphone inspired by gibson 1955 les paul custom and the Eastmans head stock is way more gibson thdn Epiphone, its really close and im surprised they havent tried sueing.
That is a crap head stock design anyway unless you want your G string to be out of tune all the time. 6 in line or 4x2 or a 3x3 with the strings pulling in a straight line from the nut to the tuners is the only way to go.
Danny's repugnance for Gibson doesn't end at just picking at Gibson's flaws, but also seeps into his purchasing patterns of other guitars! That's true love there!
I know what you mean regarding the headstock, I believe the newer variants are being made slimmer at the top I guess because of people making similar comments so eastman's decided to address the issue so as not to loose potential sale's from similar folk that "can't buy an eastman" for such reasons,well... I guess that's why they've done it 🤷♂️
If you don’t like it, you don’t like it. I won’t buy pedals that I don’t like the look of, even if I really like the sound. It might be controversial, but I personally find that very few headstocks do not detract from the look of the guitar, and only one actively improves the look - a nice large 70s Stratocaster headstock 😝. All that being said, the Eastman headstock is not a problem for me, and the general classiness of the guitar (materials, build quality, feel, look and sound) are superior to anything of less than custom shop price 9and are on at least a par with these).

If I was to buy a 3k guitar today, it would be an Eastman... one of the only LP makers that are known to be best LP's you can get today.
Nah you're on my side. Something about that style of head stock, I think you put it right it's just like a bar soap holder. I hate too, and wish I did not, but I do care. A guitar is a piece of art and I don't mind simplicity and don't care about the bling but that thing is fugly.
I 100% agree. I hate the headstock. Especially on their 335 variants. (They seem very Epi-esque) BUT…. I freaking love how my SB-56 plays. It’s my favorite guitar. It really does put a smile on my face when I play it. My Gibson hangs on the wall next to an empty space while I play my Eastman.

😂that’s going a little too far. But having owned an Eastman SB59V I can tell you you will find it overpriced. It is better than the Gibson USA for 2800 but I’m not sure you’ll appreciate it more than your HB guitars. I’d be interested in seeing that video comparison.

I bought an Eastman acoustic. Holds it's own with a Taylor auditorium. Js. Excellent guitar
The new epiphones are awesome I just got the 60s quilt top exclusive dark honey burst its amazing

if they were to give me ONE FOR FREE... YES I will take it, and I will file the headstock into a different shape. but to spend 2K, no....

😂that’s going a little too far. But having owned an Eastman SB59V I can tell you you will find it overpriced. It is better than the Gibson USA for 2800 but I’m not sure you’ll appreciate it more than your HB guitars. I’d be interested in seeing that video comparison.
No Maxipad Headstocks!!!!!!!!
So you refuse to buy what is an amazing instrument because you don't like the headstock, which you won't even see when you're playing it..
But they do sound good. Just too bad about the design.
