The Original by Floyd is around 2:minutes 22 seconds.....I'm happy my error turned out as a positive..and that my tendency to play slightly slower than the original turned out OK for you.
My big brother plays by ear. Altho he has made a point to learn the scales n ,notes. I remember when he was 15 he was already playing the accordion. He now has been hooking up w me his little sister n now works with me when we get online. He makes special times up when he can to work with me. We 'll a 4 hours away from each other so this is now even more special to me
Played at my Grandma and Grandpa's funeral when I was about 4 years old. I don't remember much of that date, or year. I was not sad at the time, because I had no idea I would never get to see the ones I loved so dearly in my earliest years. Today this song brings tears to my eyes, as it's one of the most important memories I have of them. My Grandpa or uncle would always be playing this as soon as we showed up at their house for anything. I love you Grandma and Grandpa. Rest in peace.

As a young man I remember hanging out at the dance halls an playing this on the juke boxes of the time. I’d walk up to a table where the girls would b sitting pick one out ask her to dance. Every now an then I’d find one that loved this as much as me. Slow dancing across the floor , getting lost in this beautiful tune, Looking threw her eyes , an into her heart, saying nothing but swaying with her in the middle of the floor like we was the only ones there. An when the song would end? I’d always feel sad cause I wanted it to last all night. Yea, I remember so much , an have so many good memories because of this tune that this man did on that piano . Bert, though I wish I could support my family just playing the Piano, I work many hours as an insurance agent. Get this!!!!!! I called a major Insurance Company in January - for the first time. Naturally I was put on hold for an extended period. Floyd Cramer was their "musak"!*! It gave me renewed hope that taste /desire for real music hasn't completely died in the USA.
Wow! I have such great memories of being on road trips with my Dad in the late 50's and early 60's. We'd listen to WCCO in Minneapolis, when they'd play First Date and other great songs like it. My dad ordered the tapes and I've been listening ever since. Just listening now makes me want to pick up the phone and call my dad. : D

@lifeisonehugedream Being a young guy when I first heard it on the radio - back in 1961 - I would get really strong emotions when I heard it. Only took a day or so before I had Floyd's album which I proceeded to play continously. There's just something about the way he played the song -in combination with the song itself -that was and still is extremely " moving" to many people of all ages..

Doug, haha close. 1958. And yes my hometown radio probably played this song for several years, so I probably heard it in '61 or '62.

Thanks to Deanna, William and Christen! I regret the sound isn't 100% in sync, but it really is me..though some have disputed that....By mistake, I played one of the longest versions you'll hear..I just got "lost" in the moment and missed the ending..so I just kept going.

Being a young guy when I first heard it on the radio - back in 1961 - I would get really strong emotions when I heard it. Only took a day or so before I had Floyd's album which I proceeded to play continously. There's just something about the way he played the song -in combination with the song itself -that was and still is extremely " moving" to many people of all ages..
@lifeisonehugedream Many many people get strongly moved by Last Date...I know It just knocked me over the first time I heard it on the radio..a long time ago.... it still gets to me when I hear Floyd play it ..
