I visited this castle also. I think Walt Disney used this castle as his inspiration to build the one at Disneyland. One thing I didn't like was all the huffing and puffing I had to do to walk up that steep hill. I was not about to use that poor horse cart that takes several people at a time up that very steep hill.

This beautiful castle looks magical in the wintertime when it snows but it’s super cold inside. However, each and every room has a kind of stove that can be heated with wood. Just imagine when this beautiful castle was built they had to get each stone and boulder up that hill. I forget how many years it took to finish. King Ludwig was supposed to be insane, however when he got married the Octoberfest started and has been celebrated each year ever since. It is definitely worth a trip to Germany (BAVARIA) and visit this gorgeous castle...I would recommend either in the spring or fall since it gets very hot at times in the summer and too cold...brrr...in the winter.

Thanks for the refresher of memories of being a 16 year old visiting Germany and seeing this. It is simply a stunning setting/building/architecture/art..... One of the most vivid memories I have, a truly unbelievable place. I have visited a number of top European castles, this is the best, worth the trip to Germany by itself.

We had a great visit to King Ludwig's castle. We were told that because the king was 6 ft 5" tall, athe first king size bed was built for him. We were also told by our guide that the first hot and cold water system was installed here too.
I was fortunate enough to have been able to visit the castle. And it truly is amazing! I mean absolutely amazing!! And I think they had running water in that castle. Wonderful!!
Very nice put together. As a young person I took a bus trip to the Algaue and Schloss Neuschwanstein, it was an true experience to remember. I agree the music is fantastic, King Ludwig lived for the Music of Wagner. How powerful.
