      Hello mate. That Talking Heads was U.K. only I think.The sound on that thing is inapsane ‘Don’t Worry About The Government’ sounds like the band are in the room with you.That’s the joy of the 12”...the down side is that you’ve got to get up every 5 minutes to flip it over!

    Hi Harris, pleased to hear you dig 'Burundi Black'. Rusty Egan had a hand in that new arrangement.
    The CodCast idea sounds a surefire winner. Maybe you can get Ann Drex and Di Gestive on a future episode - could ask about their time in The Human League and which one was responsible for Phil Oakey losing all his hair!

      Hi Richard, thanks again. Great meeting you. Really enjoy that track & it sounds fantastic, yes I do wander if my over exuberant use of Cossack hairspray in 1983 is the reason for my own woes...& the environments! I’m sure we’ll bump into each other again!

    👋 Hi That Talking Heads record looks good , and them live in concert too. I haven't ever seen that album. The cover is cool. Heaven 17 are a favorite group of mine from the 1980s. I like that song Temptation. I also like the song Let me Go that they did.

    • @Harrispilton22
      @Harrispilton22  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Carl, yes that Talking Heads is good, very rhythm based more than conventionally song based. I’m guessing you know the big hit of it ‘Once In A Lifetime’? I think everyone knows that. 😊

    Totally devastated about Tom Verlaine's passing. Marquee Moon is a top 5 album of all time for me. Super amazing that you found that Only Ones record. Very rare over here. I love them! Great finds! Cheers!

    • @Harrispilton22
      @Harrispilton22  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hannah! Funnily enough Marquee Moon is a lot easier to find in the U.K. than The Only Ones, as MM. was a fairly big seller over here ,I think it went top 30 & Adventure went top 10. There was a legendary review by Nick Kent in the NME where he gave it a 10..& the readership went out & bought it off the back off that. I rarely see The Only Ones over here, I think it flopped on release. Thanks for watching & commenting!

    Can't wait for the codcast! Maybe Captain High Liner can join in. Speaking of changing the photo on food packaging, Captain High Liner lost his turtleneck sweater and cap a few years ago and now he looks like a news presenter rather than a fisherman.
    Talking Heads Stop Making Sense is one my favourite concert films ever. One of the guys in my local record store used to say "If you watch this concert all the way through you won't need anti-depressants."

      @Harrispilton22  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Arturo, yes great concert movie, never bettered imo. Although REM did a good one around the time of Green. Yes Captain Birdseye appears to have visited his gym & had a haircut..he used to look pretty craggy! Adventure is ok, ‘I love the song ‘Days’, it just feels less tense than Marquee Moon, Cheers Arturo!

    • @ArturoGofunkez
      @ArturoGofunkez ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Harrispilton22 Adventure is definitely less tense than Marquee Moon, although I find side one of MM very intense, and side two more relaxed. And then Adventure kind of carries on from side two. I also noticed a huge difference between the UK and US/Canadian pressings. The UK, on red vinyl, is very muted and soft sounding, and the North American ones sound way more energetic and trebly.

      @Harrispilton22  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dan, yes I beleive The Only Ones flopped on release, hence its scarcity I guess. Yes it’s all about context with Paul’s Boutique, the Beasties were seen as a washed up novelty joke band by 89, & then they released this sample heavy, messy album, with no obvious hits & it just bombed! It wasn’t until the mid nineties that people starting discovering it was actually genius! Thanks Dan, I hope all is well.

    PS - don't want to rub it in (o yes I do); Talking Heads formed at my alma mater, RISD, and they were a couple of years ahead of me. Sophomore year ('76) my classmates and I would always go to see them at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, R.I. It was a small supper club and Roomful of Blues were performing regulars there. David Byrne would introduce each song in the oddest way; almost as if he was autistic or something. No one laughed. They played the RISD auditorium right before my class graduated in '79. I never saw any of his paintings. I was a painting major as well. But I guess he wasn't all that serious a student. What do I know. They released '77 and they blew up. That's all I remember.

    Although a bit blasphemous for someone like me - a VU/1970s NYC music addict - Marquee Moon has never been one of my faves. As brilliant as the music is, I often find Verlaine’s reedy (not Reed-y) voice unlistenable. “See No Evil” is an all time great, though!

      Hi M, yeah I get it, his voice can be an obstacle, I think the Sam applies to Pete Perret of the Only Ones, who I reckon Damon Albarn ripped off. Cheers for the heads up, I’ll check that out, I’ve heard him & David Byrne had an investing relationship!

    'tumultuous'', it seems every video you throw a word in of this calibre! ''making an uproar or loud, confused noise'', should be your middle name! Marquee Moon was not good enough to be in my collection, imagine the quality of it! It was a close call, had it for a few months in my should I keep it crates! Gave it a few spins, One needs to be fair! One of those vinyls the 'masses' were frequently told was very good, so many assumed it was!! The 'Love Supreme' dynamic, or Beethoven's Late String Quartets. Burundi Black sounds like a combination of Adam and the Ants backing band and Liberace. Jungle Line was 75', gorgeous LP.

      It’s actually quite hard to get a handle on your musical favourites Mike,.I certainly wasn’t expecting ‘Hissing’ to make the grade. Great album though. Would you include ‘Astral Weeks’ in the vinyl masses list? It seems an album that frequently divides opinion?

    • @miketomlin6040

      @@Harrispilton22 Hissing and Don Juan are in my top 100 vinyls with Blue and Court and Spark probably in the top 200. Whatever you do NEVER listen to her Mingus or what came after. Astral Weeks is a masterpiece, a very curious, complex, fascinating Lp. A 'chance' masterpiece, once you untangle the lack of connection between the players. Esentially he got lucky with his Jazz backing band! His opus is poor overall, although a couple of early 70's Lps are not bad.
      If I could only take 8 'pop' Lp's to a desert island it would be Rock Bottom, Superfly, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Astral Weeks, Comme a la Radio, Bush of Ghosts, First Take and Don Juan. And I would not take you with me!!!

      @@miketomlin6040 that’s actually a fascinating list. I actually own 5 of those.Rock Bottom is magnificent, I’ve got it on one of those doubles with the next album..not so good. Miseducation would have been perfect if it had included ‘Sweetest Thing’ Bush Of Ghosts I can only find beaten up. Comme La Radio is unknown to me, but I shall seek it out.

      @@Harrispilton22 Sweetest Thing is lovely. It's a similar Lp to Astral Weeks in that it seemed to involve a number of 'chance' dynamics, or characters, that came together unexpectedly. She had done nothing prior to, or since, that was of any obvious merit. To what degree she was pivotal to the project I know not. It was also unusual in being a masterpiece that sold in large numbers, happens, but rarely, at least initially. Comme a la radio, like Astral Weeks, had some Jazzzzers sitting in!!. Like Morrison she had a few solid efforts afterwards, but not many and nothing of this calibre, to my knowledge. If you hear it let me know how it effects your neural circuitry!

      Yes the Beasties were considered a bit of a joke act by 89, it was only about four years later people recognised the genius of Paul’s Boutique, I didn’t like it at first, then listened to it constantly, I think I know every rhyme on that thing!

    I'm thinking Harris have you been incorrectly cancelled and harshly dealt with by some of the VC? Have you set out to be controversial? It's the battle between pre prepared and free flow humour I like I think you've cracked it I think Captain Birdseye would need double CRB checking now........
    Nice to get excited about your 12"s 😉 the much maligned format that was huge in the 80/90s.

      Ha,ha, I always think it’s healthy to poke a bit of fun at the VC, & to be honest people always seem to take it in good humour. Chance has actually commented on this video, & he’s taken in in the spirit it was delivered, which is really decent of him. It’s impossible to discuss the joy of the 12 inch without things disintegrating into ‘Carry On Vinyl Community’
