    I'm the person who was fat shamed...thank you so much for your support gorgeous people!! The biggest irony of them choosing to use that photo to shame me of my beautiful Princess Pebby is that it represents everything that is the opposite to what they do. This little lady had been severely abused and neglected before I adopted her. The RSPCA hadn't been able to find her a suitable home because she was too damaged to be ridden and was terrified of people so I was her last chance. When I got her you could barely get near her and she would kick or rear whenever she felt threatened. With lots of love, care and gentle training I was able to overcome this and she became the sweetest little mummy's girl who had most of her daily care done at liberty. Unfortunately, despite many thousands of dollars spent I wasn't able to overcome her health issues from being neglected for so long so in a final act of love I had her PTS so she wouldn't suffer anymore.

      Facebook is like that these days, I adopted a horse a while back and the rescue posted it on their page, most people on that page are super positive, but there were also some really rude comments about my weight and how I was too fat for the horse I was standing on the ground next to. one person even sent me a link that was a list of horse breeds that suit heavy riders, and told me that both me and my horse would be happier if I got a different one. I'd been working with him at liberty for several months and we got really close, hes a shining example of everything I admire about horses. I have always been heavier than I look and at a comfortable weight for me I will still probably be too big to ride him, but I don't expect to ride him and honestly I don't think there is anything we can do in the saddle that is more impressive than what we are doing on the ground.

      @@LinktheHylianChampion117 she was 19 when I got her and 20 when I let her go. We aren't sure exactly how long she had been neglected and abused for aside from it being 'several years'...aside from being emaciated, full of worms and having extremely long curled up hooves and the worst pedal bone remodelling my farrier had seen, she had massive scarring that was so old the hair had grown over it (one indicated she had been scalped), she had lost part of her eye lid and was partially blind from and had a tooth that had been dead for so long that the inside had completely rotted out plus pulp exposure in others and severe periodontal disease. However, it was an absolute joy that for a little while she sound enough to hoon around and kick up her heels with other horses.

      I'm so happy to hear that she was able to overcome her fear with you, we recently had to humanely euthanize a hinny because her past abuse caught up to her and nothing was working. she definitely had a close relationship with her pasture mate, but never over the years of care did she ever see value in a relationship with humans. Her life with us was comfortable and I know I had seen her happy from a distance

      It's more pain than anger, this poor thing is such an angel that is doesn't even fight back, apart from barely trying to survive what is from a horse's point of view, a near death experience. If a horse is not used to someone riding it, the only thing that could cling onto it's back is a wild cat, which always means certain death.

      Thing is, while Arabs' bodies mature quickly, their minds take longer to develop, and they're more reactive until around the age of five, which people just don't seem to understand. Take it from the owner of an abused 8 year old Arabian, these horses are sensitive, fiery, stubborn and not quick to forgive bad handling. But they are truly amazing and if more people took the time to understand and work with them and their minds I think the whole stereotype of spooky Arab might not be a thing.

    • @lumini3172
      @lumini3172 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      The only thing you should be doing with a 2 year old-regardless of the breed-is basic groundwork. Teaching them pressure and release, lunging, desensitization, introduction to tack, maybe some liberty work, stuff like that. I’m a firm believer in not riding a horse until they’re at least 3 years old, and even then you should start with very light activities.

      I will admit that working with Arabs can be frustrating with how much they spook. It's especially noticeable when showing and you compare their reactions to new surrounding and the reactions of other breeds that won't flinch at anything.
      Despite that though, I do love the breed and I firmly believe that if they are treated well and trust their owners, they can do amazing things. They are sensitive, and tend to "over-react", but when channeled properly they are highly trainable, intelligent, sensitive horses.

    • @catetemple311
      @catetemple311 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And he didn’t even do it properly! If you were to be doing barrels or an exercise, etc, you do it completely differently. You set the horse up for success, not failure! He was leaning back, that is true, but not sitting back the way he should if he was trying to do it correctly. And the leaning back just made it worse. I’d also like to add that he was doing (or at least attempting) 180 degree turns. Something good barrel racers (really just most barrel racers) don’t do, because of the stress and difficulty it puts the horse under, only for a turn to be ever so slightly faster. He literally had some weird hold at the horse’s head, and then just sharply turned out of nowhere. Any horse would struggle with that- but especially a baby that shouldn’t even be ridden!
      The point I’m trying to make is that he wasn’t even attempting what he was, for some stupid reason, trying to do correctly. Useless idiot is he.

      @@annepettit3855 Please understand, Anne, that not all Aussie trainers are like this person. Many are very good trainers and turn out amazing animals. It's not about the wearing of a helmet or the height of his riding boot, although those are important observations. It's about being the best leader the horse can have and treating the horse with the respect it deserves.
      Also, there are many, many riders who should never be allowed to go near a horse, not even a rocking horse!
      So it cuts both ways. Same applies in other countries. Actually I wasn't even sure this video was taken in Australia, not even when the guy spoke because I couldn't understand a word he said. I wanted to hear his side of the story. But I failed to hear him.
      Anyway I just wanted to mention that, as when I trained and started horses, it was done in a respectful and responsible way using love, language and leadership. And remembering to take the time it takes, so it takes less time.

    This person and his associates do NOT represent the vast majority of horse owners and trainers in Australia and certainly not all of the Arabian Horse owners and trainers here. As a horse lover I have reported this and their other videos on TikTok (just as bad and worse) to the RSPCA and as member of Arabian Horse Society of Australia, I have expressed my horror at these acts along with huge numbers of other members and the general public. These acts and the treatment of these horses is animal abuse and unacceptable.

    I have a friend,who is now my bestie,who used to have a horse that was abused and it was her parents fault.
    She lived on a farm with goats and donkeys and her parents thought “horses must be the same right?”
    So they bought at 7 year old bay gelding and he was underfed and wasn’t excerised enough,he was essentially left in the field.
    I ended up buying them off of him for 2000 pounds because they really didn’t like him and ended up having to do normal care for months before I could even get to riding and training him.
    It was so worth it and now I have a 9 year old gorgeous bay gelding to call my own!

I spent months getting them ready, and never once had a horse Buck or act out. Yes there were a few who would just stand there for a few minutes not understanding what I was asking of them, but we always quietly and gently worked through it. No kicking, no shouting, definitely no whipping.. just gentle pressure until they would take a step then lots of praise. I also never ever did more than walk for a few minutes in the first session.. I wanted their first experience to be positive not a nightmare for them. Geez can you imagine the thoughts going through that colts mind! We have a pony at our barn that my trainer is working with, his owners said he was green broke and could be ridden at the walk, trot, and canter because that was what they had heard from him previous owners. But when she went to tack him up, he completely freaked, set back, nearly flipped himself over, so she came to the conclusion that whoever started him had just gotten on him without any ground work, because he's fine with weight on his back and mounting. She had to completely restart him because there was no way his owner was going to be safe around him. He's now a very sweet pony, affectionate, saddles fine, and my trainer is just starting to work on mounting and dismounting him after about six months of groundwork.

    The rider’s legs are so far forward because he’s using an Australian stock saddle and it puts your legs in a chair seat to be more comfortable for drovers riding for several hours in the outback.
    With that said, his equitation is still $hit. He’s depending on the reins for balance and allowing himself to lean backwards during the canter. With those abs he likes to show off so much you would think he’d have better core strength in saddle. And then there’s the obvious excessive kicking and whipping.
    TL;DR this dude has horrible EQ and is abusive but his leg positioning is appropriate for the saddle he’s using (straight down)

    Dad always also thought driving and ground tring a 4 year old was how to train than slowly get on their backs. My Grandma trained her 7+ mustang for riding and delivered the local mail on horseback. Her children could ride him, but he would not go out of the yard. He would wipe them off at the apple tree, if the wanted to go out of the yard. Or if my dad didn't get up for breakfast when Grandma called (only 1 time) mike would go to his window and pull off the bankets. Only get a bond like that through gentle training.

    Very late comment but I have a story I felt fits the first part of this video. At the barn I take lessons at there is a very pretty 7 year old male (not sure if he’s gelded or not) Oldenburg named Zazu. He’s a rescue and the people who owned him before would keep him in his stall and to train him they whipped his feet in his stall. I don’t know much about his prior situation more then this but Zazu has permanent whip scars on his legs and has not been started under saddle due to his situation before coming to the barn I ride at. He’s quite nervous around people but if you walk up to his outdoor pen. He is out there during the day and out you arm out he’ll walk up and put his withers next to your hand for you to scratch him in his favorite spot. His new owner is putting in lots of ground work and extra trust building exercises so he can be ridden under saddle.

    What absolute BS, this is straight out abuse! I actually live in Australia and grew up showing my Arabian horses. I knew a lot of very successful people from some of the top Arabian studs in our country. I had my purebred mare who was 4 at the time trained for riding at a very prestigious Arabian stud which I had done some serious research on first. She was there for 4 mths and had already had all the basic ground work done with her except actually be ridden, so it took 4 mths for them to start her correctly under saddle and she was possibly the best most content mare I’ve ever ridden. I went onto further educated her after she was there and she did amazingly well in the ridden purebred mare classes at shows. Even I, after having horses all my life at 21 knew training a horse to start under saddle was no joke and I was not willing to take the risk of making any mistakes with her first months of being under saddle. Some people are just delusional!
    I’ve actually just sent this to my sister who lives in Victoria Australia and helps run our parents Arabian stud, I’m going to have her email it to all the people she knows in the Arabian world including many many top Arabian stud farms. Can’t wait to see how these people feel when they start getting some serious flack from the Arabian people here,it’s a tiny tiny little community really and most professional Arabian people know each other, this is not going to go well for these fools, word travels very fast here and this will not be tolerated they will be totally shunned I’m telling you now. Great job lovely lady, thanks for letting us know here in Oz what these fools are up to.

    I did a ton of ground work with her before I ever got on her. Even so, she did buck me off.
    We've come a long way since then. I had to take a break from riding due to sick family members, their deaths, etc and was just getting back into it when I had a TIA.

    I noticed the guy pulling up his shirt and showing off his abs as if that somehow qualifies him to train horses better. Dude, no. Shredded abs are not a qualification for horse training. They don't even qualify you (necessarily) to teach other people how to get shredded abs - that's what a personal trainer certification is for. But having shredded abs definitely does not qualify you for horse training, as there are literal children who can do a better job at this than you, with little to no hand-holding.
    EDIT: I'm pretty sure that the karma referred to with horses that won't tolerate one's BS is exactly what happened to the young man who sexually abused me when he was still a teenager. He got a concussion from riding a horse - and if his dog handling behavior is any indication, he likely did very much the same thing on horseback this guy did, and got bucked off as a result. That or he tried to stand up on the stirrups mid-ride much the way I saw him recklessly standing on stair posts on several occasions, with similar karma as a result because while stair posts will stay still, horses won't appreciate those types of wild stunts by clearly inept people who have no experience or way with animals whatsoever.

They're no more emotionally mature than the not-very muscular boys who I'd gone to high school with who would use things like Axe body spray as a substitute for the muscle displays they couldn't do.
      And FYI, there are some genetic conditions that cause people (the two cases I've heard of were both men) to look muscular even when completely out of shape, so there isn't even a 100% guarantee that a muscled dude is even fit. And one of the men with that condition I heard of pointed out that people still ask him for fitness advice, even though he barely works out.
