    Girlypop viewer here: I was diagnosed with PCOS and Endometriosis earlier this year after being in excruciating pain for the last two years. I immediately had to have surgery to remove a cyst the size of a golf ball. It’s insanely easy to spiral because it affects so many portions of your life completely unrelated to menstrual health. Girlypops go to the gyno, it can save your life!!

    QT!!! get a second opinion about PCOS. it’s kind of crazy the gyno is operating off the assumption you have PCOS without doing a hormonal test to confirm. also crazy for the gyno to immediately try and medicate because the goal at first is to try and manage symptoms with diet, exercise etc

      @boneharvester 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +136

    • @WhereTheHellIsMyLifeGoing
      @WhereTheHellIsMyLifeGoing 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +80

      she mentioned that she is getting a 2nd one! it’s honestly always good advice. also for things like stray thicker chin hairs, she’s not alone at all. it happens to many many women starting in their mid-late 20’s and it can be totally normal or can be a sign/symptom of PCOS or a hormonal imbalance. obviously they’re the doctor, but to simply go straight to a lifelong medication feels worthy of multiple inputs.

    I feel QT so much on this! To me, women's health is treated in such a convoluted way. I was diagnosed with PCOS around age 15 when I was missing my period for months. When I did get my period I would bleed for a MONTH straight. None of the doctors I've had have really done anything to help it other than prescribe me birth control.
    The diagnosis even led me to assume that pain attacks in my lower abdomen were just my ovaries and that I had cysts or something. Later I found out I was having regular appendicitis episodes for years which just led to my appendix exploding because I was brushing them off for so long.

      I'm pretty sure there's just guidelines and they can theoretically diagnose anything (in their field at least) and that it's actually not that uncommon that doctors are reluctant to do the appropriate tests unfortunately. Hey, can I suggest something? I've had a stomach flu as well and got admitted to hospital, got fixed in a few days and went home, but my stomach definitely felt weird and frail for a long time afterwards. What helped me is taking prebiotics for a month, eating ACTUALLY healthy food (like boiled chicken and grains, soups, veggies and porridge in the morning, etc.), obviously NOT eating fast food, fried, fatty stuff, sweets AT ALL. So, I did that for a few months, then I'd maybe eat something "bad" once in a while, then I broadened my diet a little and after 6 months or so my stomach went back to normal again. I still can't eat some foods like raw garlic or onion cause it makes it feel like gastritis or something, but it's generally great now. Really hope it can help you, because I remember the fucking awful feeling of it

Putting a name to what I've been struggling with for years was cathartic but simultaneously realizing that all the medical nightmares I've been through could have been addressed if just one doctor had thought of it was upsetting. Only when I brought it up to my gyno after years of endocrinology appointments, blood tests, and MRIs did I finally get an answer. I think it perfectly summarizes the big issue here -- the issue that means that there is no medication that directly addresses PCOS and no current cure: misogyny. QT!! i also have PCOS and it was also a scary time and so much info at once. what i found beneficial is having a gyno that can make you feel comfortable AND can meet you in the middle with your accommodations. i was essentially forced onto birth control which messed me up physically and mentally, but after stopping it on my own and speaking with my gyno about it, they were more than happy to know i was happy and pleased without it as i saw no benefits to the pill. so keep pushing for what you feel is right and take care!! we got this :)
    Also ps: as someone who was once afraid of anesthesia and saw it as something that's way worse than surgery and recovery, i can gladly say i had a pleasant experience my first time and not afraid for future procedures if needed! it's all about trust in your doctors as well as them seeing you and meeting you to your comfy levels 👍🏼

    this year has been a MONUMENTAL year for streaming, a lot of ppl outside of the community are tuning in. they expect award shows to be like these giant legacy award show while neglecting to realize Streamer Awards are your beautiful baby. don’t be too hard on yourself. it will all work out. you are a phenomenal organizer and have a stellar team behind you.

A big misconception is that you will get through the hospital faster with an ambulance ride.

    So late to comment this, but in regards to the ambulance conversation. As a Paramedic in the US, as long as you are in your right state of mind, you are able to refuse our services. So Austin could have refused to go by ambulance. However, it sounds like he really did need one with getting several bags of fluid and having a blood pressure that was still soft. Also, the misunderstanding of getting a room faster if you go by ambulance is quite detrimental to EMS. For one, it's not necessarily true if you go by ambulance for let's say a sprained wrist. If you are vitally stable and not critical and there are people in the waiting room who are more critical, they will get the room before you. Ambulance crews have and will put you in the waiting room after being triaged per the charge nurses decision. The reason Austin got in the back "faster" was because he was showing signs of needing a room more immediately than those in the waiting room. Just a PSA

I mean like my period disappearing for a month, or being late, just all over the place. Getting heat flashes, gaining weight, and then just pain by my uterus like if i was on my period. I was coping so hard thinking it was just part of postpartum, since Ive never had these symptoms before even after having my first kid. I'm glad I went to the gyno and they gave me answers.

    QT I went through several very similar health and hormone issues and a naturopath was the best option I had that could have helped me with it all if you can find one.
    Mine got me a DUTCH test ($500 in canada)which reads your hormones over a 24 hour period and was super informative for what exactly needed fixing. Then I was put on a supplement for suppressing testosterone cause I had too much too and I had like no progesterone so she prescribed a low dosage and at the very beginning I was also on a supplement for estrogen support too.
    I'm also not meant to take this forever as my naturopath says my hormones will self regulate eventually.
    I've been doing everything my naturopath tells me and I went from the most irregular and painful periods to the lightest cramps I've ever experienced.
    And if yours is PCOS this will still give you a confirmed answer on where your hormones are at this point, and can only help with getting treatment.
