    Not everyone knows this, but what you hear on the Killswitch Engage live DVD from 2005 is a Soldano SLO made for George Lynch with all mods, the clean channel ripped out, and the fx loop ripped out, and KT66's. It (to me) is my holy grail amp/tone for metal core.

      I hear you. I first experienced one in person in about 2002 and have been hooked ever sense. My ability or wallet can't in any way justify owning one but I just WANT one. I'll probably get one anyway at some point even though it's nuts.

      Well Soldano also released this year a 30 watt SLO that retails around $2800. Granted, I wouldn't consider that price point as chump change but something to consider. Also, check out a Yamaha T100 which was produced from the blueprints of the SLO 100. Most users have the depth and choke mods to make it even closer to the original

      I bought a Soldano clone here in my country, built by a handmaker (around $900) . SLO-100 circuit is widely known and can be found easily on the internet. A clone might satisfy your desire...

    Couldn't agree with Fluff more on this vid - best amp ever. I remember plugging into one when I was 16 in 1996 and falling in love ever since. Awesome tone, and the build quality is tops. And now I finally have the resources to get one, so...

    Got my Yamaha T50c modded by Mike years ago he was a super nice guy actually allowed me to hang out and pick his brain while HE actually worked on my amp. It was one of the coolest things ever he just casually went over the history of the amp and how it came to be. He’s a really nice guy. Also very into the local hot rod scene as well!

    Even though I have never owned one, that midrange sound they have is forever entrenched in my memory banks forever. Do not even need to hear one. I have 2 ENGL'S and an old VHT and still not completely happy because the Soldano is the KING!!!🎸🎵

    Some of the people complaining about the price would be pretty surprised to know that a lot of their favorite guitar tones from their favorite albums feature the SLO or a kemper/profile of it. I think it’s worth the $ if you keep it for life and actually use it.

    Ive owned the Soldano Avenger 100 for many years and now own the Hot Rod 50 with the depth mod. Best amps on the market. The high gain channel is the best heavy tone out there and the clean channel is very nice and usable too!

  • @normlenhart9565
    @normlenhart9565 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I just love that voicing. There's a kind of 'quack' (hard to describe) the Soldanos have that just does it for me.

    Grammar Alert:
    The Soldano is a hAllowed amp because it is revered for its quality since the 1980s...
    The Saldando is not a hOllowed amp because, while there is some emptiness inside, there is still plenty within its enclosure.
    Good demo by the way.

    The problem with the Soldano, is once you play through one, nothing else compares. I played one with a Les Paul Studio over 13 YEARS AGO and I still can't get that sound out of my head. Like it's perfect. The gain staging results in such a warm and full sound that is just as badass loud as it is bedroom-quiet

    For years my main rig was a slightly modded soldano SP-77 (2 ch tube pre) into a Mesa 2:90....love that tone. Went back to it everytime from a triaxis (twice), Marshall 6100 head, engl pre amp, & a few other things.....currently gig with a fractal AX8, the rack is right next to it....

    Such a killer amp can see why Matt Pike uses them for High On Fire and how Mesa copied the front end to make the rectifier apparently. Also would love to see some Abominable Electronics on the channel a fellow Washington/Seattle band that make killer stuff and work closely with Kurt Ballou on some cool circuits (11 control HM2 and a TS with extra gain/brutal boost)

    This is an excellent amp! An amp intended for "guitar players".......great cleans, crunch, and of... course shredding leads.(this amp allows you to be unique/sound unique as a player). It is not a computer! (tubes, cabs: real speakers, tones in a room) It requires the player to know what they are doing when dialing it in. It also requires you to know how to play a guitar....not just thump on the low strings. It's a tone monster......a guitar players amp. Like a fine wine, like a finely tuned sports car, an instrument of quality and character. It is what it is, it costs what it costs. Like it or not......doesn't matter! It exists as a legendary amp for a reason!

  • @monsterk7603
    @monsterk7603 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It seems like you and Rabea make the best "in the mix" examples for your amp reviews, so it shines a spotlight on what that amp does really well. I managed to snag a pristine Hot Rod 50+ off Reverb about a year ago. Just amazing every time I plug in. It makes me happy to know Boutique is going to stay true to the legendary Soldano name. \,,/

    God damn, this is tone heaven. For as long as I've been a fan of the SLO100, which is a long time, I've known that I'll never be able to afford one. I take a bit of comfort from fiddling with the "SLO Lead Crunch" and "SLO Lead OD" amp models in my Line 6 HX Stomp with an Orange 412 IR, even though I know it'll never get close to the real thing. This amp sounds absolutely astounding!

    The best tone I've ever heard on an amp. All those years i thought i wanted a 6505+ but the distortion sucked and didn't have that perfect spongey edge to it like this. Funny thing is anytime I ever played a line six product I was always kind of surprised that when I went through the models that I was always stuck on one called SLO. Never had any idea what it stood for until today. 🤣 Idiot. I'm in love. The SLO model on the Boss Katana 50 MKii gives me the goosebumps and now i know why. ♥️

    If I have to pick out my favorite amp of all time, and I've been playing guitar for almost four decades and have tried just about everything, it would still be the SLO 100. I remember trying one for the first time in '86 at a boutique amp shop in Hollywood. It was like sitting in a Ferrari for the first time. It was an experience in beautiful tone and craftsmanship. I also wanted to cry when the salesman told me the price. I think it was about $2,300 at the time for the head, nevermind the excellent cab. Lou Reed, Clapton, Demartini, Lynch, Eddie, all the big guys were using them back then. It was an amp that attracted everyone from shredders to low key arthouse rockers. I've seen many big players using them live. I saw Dickie and Warren using them at an Allman concert around '93. They sounded absolutely incredible. Such clarity and tone. While a number of big players own SLOs, a lot of professionals actually rent them, or have the act they play for rent them. A good example would be a player like Nuno Bettencourt playing for Rihanna, although I don't know what he actually used on tour. These amps are extremely reliable, handbuilt and quality controlled like a Swiss bank vault. They'll also empty out your bank account should you choose to buy one. Great amp, but not for amateurs, and too pricey, even for some professionals.

Throw in a phase and maybe a flanger but nothing else, you won't need anything else. I bought mine in 95 or 96 and it just gets better with time. Señor Beards, can you help me understand something? Traditionally I have thought that, much like a JCM800, you have to crank that master volume to get the SLO to sound good and ease up the brittleness, which is why the SLO is something to be enjoyed at big stage volumes. But on these new version demos I've seen, everyone seems to just be using the preamp for overdrive and keeping the master volumes low. I'm super confused. You dial in the newer SLOs different than old?

    The clean character is very Fendery and not too different from cheaper amps if I’m being honest, the high gain is the only thing with good character

    Between the SLO in Amplitube and the off-brand version in Bias FX, plus all the amps I've "built" using plugins in DAWs that wound up sounding like this, I think I just need to save up and get one.

    If I were more than just a hobbyist I would own this amp. And probably most hobbyist are probably buying this amp. Haha.

      Nope, were not. Haha most hobbyists can't justify spending that much on just name. Theres plenty of comparable amps out there for less than half the price new.

    Sounds great Fluff! How close is that amp to the SLO amp in the Helix? Since many can't afford a REAL SLO100.... Seems like a video many would love to hear. 😉

      In my experience slo amp models get pretty close to the tone but this 10% they don't get quite right make all the difference in the wolrd

    I have been into Soldano, since I heard Lynch Mob's Wicked Sensation! I want a Soldano Decatone, but will most likely get the Synergy SYN 50.

    Does it come with a foot switch?..p.s. the riff at 2:42 is fantastic! Is it part of a finished song? Or just some random music for your video?

    Hey Fluff, you gonna do a video on one of the smaller soldano mini head thing. What is it a 20 or 30 watt version of this? I'm not sure of the exact specs but it would be cool if you did a comparison of this and that. Just sayin.

    Get a Synergy 5050 a slo module and syn-1 dock and you have this amp for half the price!

    was this miced through a cabinet, or did it go through some sort of amp capture reactive device?

    Did you check on the soldano slo with green backs at all? Not sure if you can comment on v30 speakers vs Greenbacks. Obviously the greens sound great for 80s and blues and 30s for metal … but thought a slo would sound killer with a gb top : v30 bottom like the Friedman cabs

    3:40 You probably just upset the annoying “Boost Gang Community” that would boost a nuclear ☢️ rocket if they could play through it 😂!! They have to use that $50 pedal boosting a $4000 amp lmao!! Fluff, sounded great bro, thanks for the vid! 👍🏼 upsetting the boost gang in 3, 2, 1, go......🤣

    • @bradhargis2261
      @bradhargis2261 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey even that $50 boost pedal makes stuff just sound great. People that like that sound just like that sound. If its your thing, the price of the amp has no bearing on how great a boost makes high gain amps sound. 👌

      Brad Hargis I know, I’ve heard that exact line a million times. I boost amps like a JCM800, plexi, FDR or Bassman that needs it, so I’m not against it. I just think it’s kinda funny boosting an expensive high gain amp. To each it’s own. Excuse me while I go buy me a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and put on a set of goodyear wrangler tires because I like the ride better. 😉

    • @calaverx11

      You jest but a TS set to low drive/high level/mid tone and a "low-ish" gain setting on the OD channel actually sounds pretty good. The amp by itself still sounds amazing without it, but adding a TS can shape the tone a bit differently than the amp can by itself.

      Your statement missing the fact some may be just trying to develop their own tone.
