I’ve been recycling and up cycling for 40 years…at last people are realising there in no such place as “thrown away” it is thrown into future generations back yard 😢😥 I love your channel…so watching back episodes 😊
Me and my mum recently came accross your channel and have watched quite a few videos. We can't agree more about the society we've grown up in not caring about waste, and being all about getting a 9-5 job, we can't stand it! We're currently renting in a concrete jungle and on benefits because of the stress, anxiety and depression, aswell as physical illness living in this pressurized rat race has caused 😑 we're determined to get out of it and live a self sufficient peaceful life. When we do manage it, we'll both be novices at everything, so it's a breath of fresh air to see someone navigating through all the new challenges and just giving it a go, even when it goes wrong 😊🤗
Ah thanks 🙏 yes to just going for it. I had been dreaming of this for almost 10 years and almost forgot it a few years ago. The way we do some things in modern society really confuses me. Now though I forget it’s even going on where I am now. Good luck with your search for land and I hope you get what you need
Kris Harbour said when working with round wood, perfect square corners isn’t something you’ll achieve. Looks fantastic, remember most people commenting on how you should have done it are sitting on there butts not doing any of it. Cheers.
We love watching Kris harbour and Mossy bottom too..really cool seeing you learn the round wood timber framing, were about to do a compost toilet too! Keep up the good work, Legend
Loved watching you do this and most importantly learning from your mistakes. Will never look at a nail or screw in the same way again! Thank you and looking forward to part 2.
I'm so happy I stumbled upon your channel. I love that I'm getting to watch this homesteading journey start at the beginning. You asked for advice on building. My biggest suggestion is to go to Shawn James's main channel, My Self Reliance. If you go back a few years to the beginning of his first cabin build, you'll find a ton of videos on woodworking, and building with wood in almost the same manner you are.
Wonderful. It is amazing when you have time at home on your land how much you can get done. The nails though!!! So much work. I do like how you reuse the pallets. It looks great. Over the years I always stop when I am driving and I see free windows in someones yard...they have come in handy for many of our building projects.
Great stuff man. It's all about the journey, not just the destination and u seem to be enjoying the journey doing the work on this! Look forward to part 2 of this video
Hi love the videos.. we are from the north and have converted a van.. my girlfriend and i would love to come down for a weekend and give you guys a hand.. we are thinking of doing something similar ourselves..
Hi Bruce, what timber did you use, what trees and how old were they? I'd love to plant my own forest of trees for use and also for improvement of the environment so I'd like fast growing one's that I can use while the forever trees 🌳 grow
Hi it was a mix of larch, Sitka Spruce and a little ash. I’m not really an expert on trees but fast growing you could plant Alder, willow etc but for building the pines grow pretty fast
Where you based as I would love to help and who knows, we may learn from one another. PS I have a dog, she is 16 months old and very, very friendly, she hasn't a vicious bone in her
@@OffGridBruce Again I would love to help you out but will have to try and organise some transport as I do have an e bike but no transport for my dog unfortunately
You are not the first to say that. These are my older vids. Check out one of my newer ones like my planting 2000 trees. In the earlier vids I didn’t have any headphones so just edited to my laptop speakers.
Hi my husband and I have just started watching your family's channel and you stated you watch Chris Harbor. You may also enjoy My Self Reliance/ Shawn James. He also builds with more hands on. He lives in the Canadian wilderness. He building a off grid cabin and homestead. Thanks from Florida, USA.
Bruce, you are amazing! You can absolutely build anything!

Thanks for watching Jo. It was an eye opener that’s for sure spending the time reusing what I could
Watch out with the self-criticism! Totally not necessary because you are doing an awesome job - making me very envious!
Ah thanks Colin I think it’s just the people I like to watch on TH-cam are total craftsmen you know :)

I'm glad you are taking to Ireland very well, despite the horrible weather. Great carpentry work also.
Thanks Cathal, I actually don’t mind the rain :)

Thanks mate :)

Yeah the nails is maybe a bit far but I am enjoying the process of trying to upcycle as much as possible :)
Nice work bruce! I can see a lot of kris harbour work here! 🤣Looking good!
Ah you know I love that channel!
Well done, great job cutting the poles, the kids are amazing,
Ah thanks Robert. Those kids are pretty great but I am biased :)

Thanks David, I am enjoying the process :)
I'd like one of those cordless Makita chainsaws, heard good things about them, If I was buying again I'd get one over my petrol husqvarna
It’s probably my most used tool at the moment. Really great bit of kit
Great episode. Great seeing the progression you dudes are making. Love it. ❤
Thanks mate :)

Hey Mark, that sounds like a great idea. Send me a message on Instagram at offgridbruce and we can chat :)
👍
No spend, conserve your resources for when it is needed. You will not regret it.
Good advice!
hello from the 9-5 city nightmare.
you're living my dream
if that makes 'sense'.
well i'd get a second, & bigger dog ♥
God bless.
Got 2 big dogs added to the pack now :)
Really enjoying sharing your journey with you, wondering what animals you are going to incorporate into your self sufficiency,?
Thanks, We want rescue some battery hens firs of all an potentially some kunekune pigs for clearing scrub etc
@@OffGridBruce Ah, I see, rescue...gladdens my heart and makes my day at the same time,
I think it has to be a swing chair site - too good for a loo spot? Even though I do love a loo with a view :)
Ah come on! You know I’m to far into this for a change of plans 😂

If it helps I am a carpenter, and a first aider, safe passes and all the rest of that crack would love to help out. Also a qualified welder

I’m not far from Ennistymon

Please work on the transitions from voice to music. The music is far too loud compared to when you're speaking.
