ross im glad i found my figs. people like u and others that are driving the hobby and making it better. we are a special breed. thanks to u and others that have made this special and rare hobby into a passion. by us serious collectors it is well appreciated.
Wonderful. Thank you for being apart of my journey, Joseph.
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly lost the login password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Kohen Trevor instablaster ;)
@Shepard Madden I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Shepard Madden It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my account :D
This was a great video! You should update it to focus more on what resources to use to learn fig identification. As great as this was you don’t actually tell us how to learn fig ID skills. As a beginner I just want to be able to differentiate between the commonly encountered figs here in the US. Thanks for all your great help & information.
Thank you for sharing the knowledge Ross. I’ve been
subscribed to your channel for over a year now, and I’ve learned quite a bit. I
joined OurFigs forum last November…had no idea that was you from the forum…lol…you
were one of the first to welcome me…your hair threw me off.
I posted pics…Fig ID Help…still not sure what I have. However, I do believe
that I have a better chance of figuring it out by keeping tuned in to the info
you share, and researching for myself. Thank you Ross.
That's fantastic. Thank you. I'm very glad you've learned as much as you have.
The hair is a wig from Halloween!
Where are the photos?

Hi Ross 👋 I have been waching your channel for the past few days and I see how much you have grown 👏👏
Fantastic video, Ross! That is exactly what I am noticing and learning.
Great news! I have a Chicago hardy and an LSU purple.
Very informative video Ross, thank you.
Something I've been curious about for a while now and also think would make a good subject for a future video, is what makes a "Sugar" fig. Is it level of sweetness, or a certain flavor, or just lack of "berry" flavor? Also read somewhere that sugar figs are so called because they have a high enough sugar content to dry and preserve well. Please let us know what you think.
Video starts at 6:20 never mind it starts at 11:42
I could not find the spreadsheet. Could you please repost it. I believe you really did want to help us but we can't read this, so I would like a link to where I could read it. Thank you
Hey Ross, I discovered a fig tree on a hike a little more than a year ago. It was way beyond the end of the hike, I kept going past the huge rocks that most people can't climb over, and followed the creek. I went for a few more miles and ended up finding a massive fig tree bearing hundreds of figs. They were green on the outside when ripe, and when I cut one open for a video it burst out with a red jelly on the inside. It was definitely not planted by anyone because it was growing out of massive rocks. But its roots were deep enough to feed from the stream. It's one of the best figs I've ever had so I went to propagate it yesterday. Can I name it a new variety and what is the process?
You can. I'd love to see photos of the tree and fruits if you've got them.
I grow mushrooms. ( and now figs ) I take the strongest and biggest mushroom and will use the spores or a piece of the mushroom to grow out on an agar plate. Usually both. If I grow out the spores there could be hundreds of phenotypes of that mushroom which will have slightly different characteristics. Even though it’s from that mushroom. If I use the mushroom, it’s like doing a cutting. It will be a clone. I would guess it works the same way with seeds. A Meyer lemon tree can only be probated from another Meyer lemon plant. Plant the seed and it will slightly different. My thought would be take a fig from one extreme location, grow in another and eventually it will adapt. With adaption comes change.
Hello Ross , do you know any software helping to identify easily figues ? i know it exists for the apple trees so may be for figues too
No such thing for figs :/
Mike kincaid is saleing a KK Black Maderia..sort of hard to get . . Not just the run of the mill Black Maderia but the sought after KK model. . Is the KK Black maderia a collectable variety?
They're all the same. Honestly not worth worrying over.
Hey Ross! Its epigenetics. It's the reason genetic twins have differences.
There ya go! I learned a new word today :D
ross do u think that patterns in leaf shapes can change with climate? my celeste from jfe dont look like that. thay are more fingerlike.
Leaf shape changes due to vigor. That's the only reason I can see. People have said it's because of maturity, but that's because the vigor changes as the plant gets older.
Very good video. You might be interested in reading the chapter on apples in Michael Pollan's book 'The Botany of Desire, He explains the the reason for the variance in the offspring, which may interest you.
Thanks, good Stuff here…Any chance we can hire you (in Philly too) to identify my 15+ ft. Fig tree & investigate why this year, its fruit is not ripe yet. The tree is healthy & u know the weather we’ve had. So I’m confused why this year the fruit’s still smallish & hasn’t ripened yet.
BTW: in mid-June exactly 4 figs were ripe & tasted great. But zilch after that.
Send me photos of the tree!
@@RossRaddi -Sure, I’ll check for your email address on your video. I’m telling you, my Fig tree this year is an enigma.
iso would you say that it seems that the tree is evolving into something different depending on location.minerals, and climate .. and if so could this also be why we are see cdD reveres and mutante
Yes, but that's a little different, Troy. Those are mutations not adaptations. Don't ask me for the science, lol.
Same difference as nurture vs nature. Nurture being the environment and nature being the genetics.
Why can’t I hear it? My iPad is playing other sites.
Respected dear...u give me ur mail.... I want to personally talk with u.... I'm from India.. Here same type of fig.... Is grown... But i have doubt ..these plants are fig or not...
I send u their photos
Fixed it. Rebooted
I'll watch the whole video as I'm interested in figs on a deeper level like this. But 10 minutes in and all you've reinforced is the essential uselessness of even watching this video in the first place. It seems I'd only have a snowball's chance in hell of identifying any fig variety, even if I had a doctorate in fig identification. So at least 1/5 of this video (so far) is spent not actually helping us identify any fig and their specific traits.
Too much talk
@ross raddi: Read the book The Botany of Desire. You show enthusiasm for the subject but have an abject lack of vocabulary and background knowledge to be posting this type of video.
You shouldn't shoot the guy down like this ... its not appreciated ... its a heck of a video and rather detailed.. he doesn't have to have a PHD in Botany to post this great video and for his age he is rather knowledgeable
Its youtube, make your own video and take a pill
All this talk about leaves and fruit size and color… nothing about flavor. What’s the best? Lmao
