I had a '79 Cutlass, when I was a teenager. We put an Olds 455 in it. It had way more top end speed, than the car seemed capable of.😃Mind you, it still had 260 cid coil springs up front. Ah, those were the days! Also had a '71 Monte Carlo, with a Buick 455. The Monte was stable at any speed.

Hot dang! That's the Olds smiling front end I remember at Gainesville raceway! Dang Kevin, brings back so many memories man! Gosh, I remember Kimber in soccer mom before it was soccer mom, he had built a small block for it and it got into the low 11's one night and he was so happy about that! Y'all and them Rollins boys pretty much cleaned house every week on the bracket racing. Can't wait to see the Cutlass tear it up again on the track!😊
Hey Kevin, About a week or so back I asked a question about welding the frame up like you did. You probably didn't see it. So here it is again.
Can the work you did, Or boxing in parts of a frame be done with flux core? If so, any suggestions on what amperage? I no long have my welding rig for TIG and I just can't afford gas for MIG right now. During hurricane Beryl we were hit with an EF2 tornado that formed in one of the rain bands. It did a ton of damage to our house and pretty much totaled both my truck and the wife's Jeep. So welding gas is pretty low on the list of needs atm.
Hillbilly jig, I would get the car frame level and square then 4-6 - 3/4" inch redheads in the concrete then chains and binders weld and fab away nothing will move [ratchet straps just wont hold as tight]. I would also used this method to straighten bent cages and flame anneal, I also only use 4130 so you know. When not in use just a threaded hole you can put a plug. Just a thought

Yea, the flooding is insane. The way the storm came in and ran up the east side of the Smokeies, caused all the rain to dump right there. Some areas had 2.5 FEET of rain in 12 hours. Gravity did the rest. I live in eastern middle TN. Only 4.5 inches of rain here. From Newport TN to the east side of Ashville NC (roughly 100 miles), I-40 is un-passable. Boone, flooded. Chimny Rock, gone. Breveard NC, flooded. Ashville's Biltmore Village, under ten feet of water. Newport TN., flooded. Uinco Tn, gone. National Guard had to evacuate 50 people off the roof of the hospital there. Death toll is 64 , with dozens listed as missing. I run two weather FB pages in TN, so I have too many details. But I'm glad you guys are all good. Storm was moving fast , which was your saving grace. Fl. coast still got re-arranged.
"The Improved Touring category is broken into five classes based on the performance potential of the car. Those classes are Improved Touring A (ITA), Improved Touring B (ITB), Improved Touring C (ITC), Improved Touring S (ITS) and Improved Touring R (ITR).' These are regional only classes but can run at National events but in a different class. Mainly old Showroom stock cars. There was much more that you could do in IT.
I used to run ITS before I went to Super Touring U. There is a guy that runs a 1993 300zx in my class that is in the classis Nissan racing colors.
Brother, hearing you talk about building that car with your dad makes me nostalgic for my 80 LeMans I built with my dad. It went low 12s between I got rid of it. We painted it a dark candy blue with silver fleck. It took 8 coats to get full color. Fun stuff.
kevin, your videos never ever seem long.. they always seem too short! i have an idea to boost view count with existing video... do 'start to finish build' compilations.. yeah the editing will be tedious, but you already have a few full builds on video, i can't wait for this full build all at once!!

I saw a show once about the man that built the Green Momba jet car that he said, on a chassis that will encountered EXTREME vibration, that mild steel was the only thing you could build, that would hold up.. he stated chrome moly was to brittle and would crack and fail. Unfortunately NHRA did not agree with that and banned him from making exhibition runs.
My parents' place on the top of Sugar Mtn fared pretty well. They unfortunately are up here with me and can't get down there until like Friday. But neighbors say no broken windows. Looking through the windows looks OK. Just a few shingles off and branches down.

I had a 68 442 that was my baby, the car I drove in high school. Spent years making it just the way i wanted it and then a giant tree fell on it and pancaked it.
Well Kevin you can look at the hurricane like this, it gave your building a free pressure washing and possible paint removal in some places. Positive thing you didn't get a deep cleaning inside your building. Some of your neighbors were not so lucky.
I sure hope you can pull off finishing the olds up for sick week man.. its gonna be a force to be reckoned with..

Dude, look for a 79 Cutlass Calais or 80 Brougham front fascia/grill. Same egg crate design as the W30 & much nicer than the slatted design. Your Cutlass looks awesome!
These have always been my favorites. Both look good but I prefer this style.
