Rep, Cruyff, Neeskens, Haan, Krol, and Suurbier started in the World Cup Final one year later, opposite Müller, Hoeneß, Breitner, Schwartzenbeck, Beckenbauer, and Meier for the Germans. All of them started this same match. Legendary squads.
When European football was at an excellent level , the European cup was far more exciting than the champions league , you had to be at your best in every game to lift that trophy unlike the CL
Well, I couldn 't believe what I saw here. Unilever the second Ajax goal , it was awful to watch. No Ball was passed straight. Maier was terrible, and Bayern started good , but for some reason decided to stay round their goal. And never came out until 2nd Ajax goal .Then finally I saw zajax as I remembered them .And the match became ok to watch.
As a young boy I recall these occasional foreign games on TV. The colour, the sirens in the crowd, the famous international players, it all seemed so exotic.
Total football at its best! Ajax team was playing years ahead of there time. Not to say Bayer Munich were in anyway bad, they just couldn’t click into gear. Johan and Der Kaisër legends
Good to see Ajax attacking most of the time they get the ball and Cruyff playing much further forward and going for goal like the centre-forward he was circa 1965-72. This is exactly how Holland should have played in the 1974 World Cup final.
Some dolts and dullards from England's managerial class attended this match, among then Laurie McMenemy and Don Howe. Amongst their pearls of wisdom were that it was 'basketball football' and 'people in Grimsby wouldn't put up with the stop start style.'
What a great game, what a football lesson. Good time of football, where you had truly a duel of schools, as in the above game for example, German vs Dutch. Today, the European teams are practically composed of foreign players and with few players from the respective countries, thus undermining the identity of the clubs.
A bit like Bayern versus Dortmund (when Dortmund was winning ;-)). The speed of game is unbelievable. Ajax is attacking everywhere, everytime. Bayern did by no means play a bad game. They've had their chances. But this attacking-concept and ultra-fast combination style seems to be too new to them. Excellent game.
You missed one name from your list. In an interview for US Television, Pele was asked who he thought was the best footballer he had ever seen ?? Pele answered George Best.
Great to see legends playing in both sides. All youngsters should watch a game like this and understand how to play across the whole pitch, not just in triangles. Bygone era, don’t make teams like this any more

So weird to see how scared Bayern suddenly became. They started good but though Ajax were terrible they grouped around their own goal for the match .Ajax passed badly and it was one big stew of mistakes on both sides. Maier was terrible , nervous and insecure . 1st and 3rd goal , his foult. At 2 - 0 Ajax found it's rhythm and Bayern gave more room away .And strangest of all ? Cruyff? Invisible until 88th min. when he headed 4😢- 0 . Weird game , this.

What a pity that the commentator almost never pronounces the names of the players,it's a pity for people who was not born and don't recognize automatically them.
"das verstehe ich nicht ganz richtig" why the referee is giving player Rot a yellow card? Which part of the attack from behind you do not understand? Joker

Cruyff was still in peak form when he was in DC with the Dips. One of the best athletes I have ever seen.
