    This song is a reworking of the same song recorded by Muddy Waters with a bit of Robert Johnson thrown in for good measure. It's also been covered by others including Jeff Beck's group with Rod Stewart singing. Since this was their debut album, it almost sounds like they're introducing themselves musically; JPJ gets an organ solo, Robert a harmonica, Page some amazing, languidly snarling guitar, and Bonzo with a bit of crash-boom-bang at the end. Robert and Jimmy often "sang" back and forth to each other. It's known as a "call and response" and blues songs often used it.

      Willie Dixon wrote all the best blues songs, including this one.
      Saw muddy open for Clapton in 79...blew Clapton away. (Not difficult...saw him 2x...boring)
      Only show that tour that they did a encore...up to then

    I bought the LP this song came from when it was first released (several lifetimes ago), and I swear to you, I still stand in awe of the music this group could produce. For me, they remain the greatest rock/blues group in the history of popular music. Listening to these songs now is just as big a thrill for me as it was when I first heard them.

    Big props to Willie Dixon for this song, not sure who wrote it but I think it was him. At least when Zeppelin covered a song they added to it instead of just doing a standard cover. They also did a great cover of his song Bring It On Home. Page learned to play guitar by listening to American blues records whenever he could get ahold of them in Great Britain.

    Greatest Rock album of all time. The epitome of Rock and Roll. I bought it as a young kid in the early 70’s just having been turned onto Rock and Roll. I had no clue as to what it was, I just thought the cover looked cool. Little did I know I was purchasing the greatest Rock record of all time. Still my favorite band and favorite album. Untouchable! And their bluest album. Very few bands have a debut this strong.

    Zeppelin albums have "cookies", extraneous sounds that other bands would never allow on a studio album. There are bleeds on the tapes, laughter as in Your Shook Me, a jammed tape on Celebration Day, someone shouting stop in Out On The Tiles, a plane flying over on Black Country Woman, more laughter on Boogie with Stu and chatter and laughs after In My Time of Dying, Certain they were left there. The little flaws to make it perfect.

    YOU SHOOK ME is a good live track - I'd have used the others for Studio because Jimmy's overlays of guitars and effects, but this is a pretty decent live song. It was one of the Zep's hallmark, get-us-noticed songs, albeit well-known in England's blues audiences from other artists. None of them offered Jimmy's playing inflections, though, and this and Plant's cliff-falling vocals were - and are - the outstanding version of all.

    • @ollietsb1704
      @ollietsb1704 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always appreciated Plant's harmonica "vocal uhhhs" and suck-it-in-hard breaths. Seldom do harmonica players allow these vocalizations, but I think it adds a TON of emotion and intensity to an easily overlooked instrument.

    First song I heard of LZ was 'Whole Lotta Love' on the radio, way back when (late '69 early '70). Bought the single and wanted more. Bought the album LZ 2. Wanted more. Bought LZ 1. This overshadowed 2 IMHO and has done ever since with every other album. It remains one of my Top 5 albums of all time and is still the best ever debut album of any genre. (Not discounting one off's albums like Blind Faith - also in my top 5)
