I don’t know how many times I have watched this video. I love your flower paintings. I am waiting for a workshop and I hope I can attend. You are amazing artist, Sandi. I love you very much!
Pulling off the tape is always a thrill!! I’m currently working on a tablescape with small vases of flowers in my sketchbook. So fun painting in this loose style!! May I just say that until seeing your videos, I had not picked up a paintbrush for ages…NOW I go into my art room every morning.!! Thank you, Sandi, for taking the stuffiness out of painting and making it loads of fun!!
Ohhhhhh!!! The last one on the cheap paper!!!! That is one I would love hanging on my walls or trying the style myself - seriously reminds me of a painting of sunflowers I did in high school (waaay back in 1971!) Love this style of still life and hadn’t seen any in decades….may have to revisit this over the summer 😊
Oh Sandi, I love the last floral painting. At first I didn't see it, but after you removed the yellow tape, the white border really sings with the background colors and makes the flowers pop. Loved watching your process. Thank you for sharing your time and talent.
It doesn't dismay me at all to see you paint over stuff! It strikes me as liberating. I am on a quest not to feel so precious about things, and videos like this really help give me courage.❤ OK, so I always comment before a video is over because it feels more like I am having a conversation, but then I get to the end and have more to say or find that the video maker has asked a question and it feels rude not to respond 😂. Hooray for the edit feature. I liked all of the paintings and appreciated how you broke down your thoughts and called attention to your techniques. I especially love the big flowers in your last sketch with the beautiful mix of colors and dark centers.
LOVE the narrative!! I remember trying to understand how to prune overgrown ornamental trees. My boss, at the time, was so amazing at it. These trees would be a work of art. I couldn't "see" how she did it. Even watching her. UNTIL I asked her to narrate what she was thinking while doing it! Wah-la!! It all made sense! THAT is what your videos are like!
Woo hoo! I just sat down for lunch and this was in my home screen. I LOVE your color choices for florals in the sketchbook. Your mom's painting is my favorite, I do hope she hangs it up, that's a piece that should be out for people to admire. Thank you for the video. I hope you're doing well and have a lovely weekend. See you next week.
I'm only 3 min in and I'm about to scream NOOOOO! because you just said you're gonna paint right over your painting that I'm in love with *insert crying emoji* I love the color, the composition and really love the pattern on the flower pot- ok, back to the video, haha! :p UPDATE: Just finished and I fully support your decision, Sandi :) Although, I'm not gonna lie girl, I loved both versions and the bigger mama jama version as well. Thanks for reminding us to not be so damn precious about our art. It's a reminder I definitely need to hear on the regular and I really admire how you embrace the happy accidents and how you bravely just GO FOR IT. You're badass ;)
Debbie, what a great comment to get this morning ❤️ - so encouraging!!! I’m sorry you wanted to scream though - I have a feeling that a lot of people did. It’s just part of the process and the adventure. Thanks again!
Love your flower paintings and yes, removing the tape feels so good, like an unveiling! Want to mention as well, that I looove how you play with negative space all the time. Love your work!
I love the last painting you call a sketch. It feels so light and fresh. I love the spaces in it. Writing flowers on the vase is genius. It's kind of humorous and childlike. I think it's shouting "yah! I am painting flowers!!! Oh yes I am"
I’m glad you like it Jan. When I want to put writing on a painting I’m the worst with coming up with something creative - i usually put something obvious 😂
Loved so much in this video as usual! I loved seeing you paint over a painting because it wasn't right for you. I actually went 'nooo' when you said it but at the same tim 100% understood and supported your decision because it is your work. I loved seeing the new one appear and loved that one also! So fun. Who needs nail-biting drama series when I can watch you paint over things in your videos haha. I also do the thing of sneaking in to look at my work one last time before going to bed. I often do this after the major chores are done for the evening and my mind is free to get excited about the next day. It's like sneaking upstairs to peek at a present or toy you get to play with the next day. And it's nice to go to sleep with these thoughts. Sometimes just the break from looking at it throughout the early evening is enough to give fresh eyes and new ideas just before bed. Thanks for another lovely video Sandi x
I like the one that’s on your shelf, the strong colours appeal to me.The tape pulling process is a thrill,I always look forward to that as a finishing touch.I ,like you love to check out the days work before bed,it can work against me sometimes though because I can’t sleep with my crazy mad creative woman’s brain that can’t turn off. Wow Sandi, this one is a keeper! It was really helpful to see you work through the foliage and “add” the background in at the end. I struggle with creating depth in floral arrangements and the idea of working on the leaves, then flowers, then adding more leaves and then the background “peeking” through - such a great tip. Thank you as always! - Stacie

I love the one with the pink vase!! Love all of them really, but the shapes on that one are great. That last one is also beautiful, the colours turned out nicely!! I've also been really into drawing/painting plants and flowers lately. My sketchbooks are full of plants for some reason. I really like the idea of putting them all together on the wall, I think it would look amazing!
Oh my! I forgot to tell you my favorites…. That painting on paper that says “Flowers” is my fave. So much movement and vibrancy. My favorite painting is the one with the pink vase and black tablecloth. I think I like the lighter backgrounds rather than the blue one.

Hi Sandi. It was good to see the process of ‘painting over’ an existing painting, this was very courageous. I did take a screen shot on my iPad to compare before and after, and I have to say, like a couple of the other viewers, I too preferred the first one (i.e. the one you painted over), but there is a saying, ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ and if everyone liked the same thing life would be uninteresting. My favourite painting on this vlog was the one at the start, with the big red flower at the front. Beautiful. As always, I enjoyed your vlog 🌻
Thanks so much Catherine!! Ohhhh, I should have showed a before and after - duh! Wasn’t thinking. For me, if I’m. It I love with it then to me it’s more important to practice pushing through and just going for it - even if I ruin it - I don’t want to be so uptight - it’s just paint.
@@sandihester Hi Sandi, yes, I agree it’s just paint 🙂 It’s good to take a risk with your painting. That is how one learns. The tricky part is not knowing the outcome (i.e. will be successful or not). The fact you took a risk is courageous in itself. Look forward to your next vlog 🌻
I love your work so inspiring where do you get those big sketchbooks? I miss Tennessee. I wish I would’ve gotten to meet you before I left there. I’ll be back though my roots are there. I’m out here in California now and I’ve always loved painting flowers. I’ve got to get free and more Looser. I look forward to taking one of your workshops one day thanks, Sandi! Beautiful work❤
Yes, pulling tape off is the most satisfying thing! I love these flower paintings! Sandi, what is the story behind the horse, if any? Also, do you ever use a palette knife?
I’ve learnt to trust your eye and the one you painted over proved the point. My favourite? Impossible to choose. I do hope you will be offering some of your flower artwork for sale. I have the perfect spot for the last one.

I'm very glad you're painting over thats not making me cringe at all. I'll have to keep watching and see the final outcome. Well I see foliage ic 0 flowers Thanks for sharing
The last one is my favorite. Great job Sandi. I just bought my large moleskin A3 sketchbook. I adore it! I also bought 2 of the calligraphy brushes. The number 1 and 6. I hope I can learn to control the brush the way you do. I just put my paint swatches down and it was really hard. I also notice you do not wipe your brush with each paint color. I will have to try that. I was cleaning my brush with water after each color. That was really a mistake!!!! Wish me well. Going to experiment with the brushes this weekend. Loved the video and all your beautiful paintings. 🙂❤🎨
So fun having those new supplies!!!! I think color swatches may be hard with those brushes for a beginner with them - try painting something loose and free with them. Not wiping each time allows for color harmony and not wasting a loaded up paint brush. So, if I have yellow in the brush I look around to see if I need to paint some green or orange and then use the yellow in the brush to make that
I love your artwork! Will you ever sell prints of your art or only originals? Either way I hope that one day one of your pieces can be in my home 😊. Thanks for inspiring me with your work and videos!
Really find all the flower paintings lovely, I think my favorite is the one with the vase that changed three times, it really turned out so special in the end. Sandi, you are always so generous with your knowledge I was wondering if you could share how you mail paintings on paper? Do you roll them up and ship them in a tube and do you add anything to protect the front of the painting? I've been thinking about starting to sell some of my art but i find the shipping aspect to be really intimidating!
Shipping - ugh - sooooo intimidating!!! I ship them flat (some of my works done in really thin paper I have shipped in tubes rolled up) and I use glassine paper to protect them and then seal them in a plastic bag to protect from moisture. I definitely over package my work 😂. I remember apologizing to the first couple people I sent packages to saying “sorry it’s going to take you an hour to unwrap that thing 😂. I still over do it but I want it to get there safely. Hope that helps!
I love abstract florals and do smaller sized pieces of them. I love the ones you did….I think they’re great 👍! And the new one is fantastic too. But if something’s not your thing…it’s not your thing and you have to be true to yourself.
I started to make cute watercolor bookmarks and I thought of selling them, but I think I can't charge very much because It's so simple and I don't think people would buy one for over 3 euros🙁 The websites (etsy and more) charge for selling my art and the amount isn't comparable..do you have any tips where and how I could test to sell my art?😅 (I love your channel,I stay here now and binge watch your videos😂😌)
As per usual, loved them all Sandi, as there was something really beautiful in each. How do you know to paint over one versus put it aside and let it "marinate" so to speak? And, I had a teacher once tell us to take pictures along the way to then discover where a painting went wrong (or right :))--is video recording doing that in essence for you? Would you recommend taking pictures throughout the making of the art piece? I know you're busy so no need to answer here as I watch ALL your Vlogs :). Praying you feel better soon sweetie!!!
Thank you Joni - I am feeling better ❤️. I usually forget to take photos or pic up the camera to film 😬. I’m not really sure how I know - just if I’m not in love with it I move on - or sometimes when I don’t have any blank canvases paintings also get painted over 😆
Your process is my favorite part of your paintings well and the end result but what I mean is seeing the process really breathes life into the finished piece.❤️

Awe - thank you! Probably some day!
1:17 - I love that painting 😍
🤗thanks Susan!
gorgeous sketches
Thank you Gavin!
@@sandihester u really are quite talented! 🌷
@@gavinpeters5418 thank you Gavin!!!
My favorite was the one with the light blue colors in your sketchbook. Do you paint with oil paint in your sketchbook?
No, that’s acrylic. Thank you!
Great! Work❤️
Thank you for the inspiration!!!!!
You bet! Thanks for watching!!
Did you use a medium mixed in with your soft-bodied acrylics when painting your floral paintings? If so, what was it?
I love abstract florals and do smaller sized pieces of them. I love the ones you did….I think they’re great 👍! And the new one is fantastic too. But if something’s not your thing…it’s not your thing and you have to be true to yourself.
Thank you Nancy!
Are you going to be selling your boat art works? I am in love with them!!!!!
Yes!!! I have some of them listed on my website- just email me or message me on Instagram if your interested in one
You were right, it cried to be painted over. Looks better, but something still missing. Think the yellow background is not right. GOD BLESS.
I started to make cute watercolor bookmarks and I thought of selling them, but I think I can't charge very much because It's so simple and I don't think people would buy one for over 3 euros🙁 The websites (etsy and more) charge for selling my art and the amount isn't comparable..do you have any tips where and how I could test to sell my art?😅
(I love your channel,I stay here now and binge watch your videos😂😌)
I j ow a lot of people see through Instagram- just sharing and allowing people to contact them for purchase - you could try that. Thank you!
I’m not really sure how I know - just if I’m not in love with it I move on - or sometimes when I don’t have any blank canvases paintings also get painted over 😆
If pulling off tape was an Olympic sport, I’d grab gold !
😂😂😂 loved this comment!
You can leave a painting for a while, it's all good. Other people do it.
Your process is my favorite part of your paintings well and the end result but what I mean is seeing the process really breathes life into the finished piece.❤️
I’m so glad to hear that Paula - that’s helpful feedback!
