Great to see some of our Bushrangers (Outlaws) We had lots of them the first convicts that escaped and took to the bush were called Bolters and they mainly stole food and clothing just to survive . Santee, this is so interesting. As ALWAYS, the additional, audio-visual material is topnotch. Hey, Ned Kelly deserves to be remembered. I had never even heard of him. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Im in the same boat. 1st I have heard of him. However I must admit I forget there are "other countries" that have an old west history. I must seek out this movie about Ned Kelly. While Santee was talking about it I was also thinking it sounds a lot like a Billy the Kid kind of story when he said pretty much that. 🙂
@@fishbonez5670 I couldn't agree more. "Bad boys" aren't unique to only our country. It looks like many of us hadn't heard of Ned Kelly, whose true story deserves to be heard. I live a short drive from Glenrowan and visited the site a few times, and the jail in nearby Beechworth where he was held before being transferred to Melbourne. Not far north of here is Morgan’s Lookout, where another notorious bush ranger operated, Mad Dog Morgan. According to legend Ned was tough, but Morgan was a genuine psychopath. I have the movie about him on DVD. I’m now going to have to get it out and watch it again. Great Video Santee! History is History, and I put Ole Ned right there along with Old West History too. 👍👍
That was so unexpected, but welcome. We, here in Australia, had an equally wild "west", but Hollywood stole the show. Did you know that the first feature film was abouy the Kelly shootout? Done in Australia. Right up to the early seventies, you could still buy the 577 450 Martini cartridge -- my right shoulder certainly remembers 😊
Aussie Aussie Aussie ... Oi Oi Oi ... 'as we are prone to exclaiming' ... actually there was a heap of bushrangers back then, but thanks for this, being an Aussie, it's nice to be recognized for our contribution to the world of outlaws ;)
Coincidentally, Ellen and I had JUST came across the 1970 movie with Mick Jagger playing Ned a couple days ago. We only watched a minute or 2 of it, we need to sit down in a quiet evening for the whole thing soon
I am reminded of the parallel in connection with the armor. Ned's legs remained exposed, and that was his undoing. Over 100 years later, the same fate befell one of the North Hollywood bank robbers, who was taken down by skipping rounds off the pavement underneath a vehicle the perp was using for cover. His own armor had protected him from many other shots, but they got him in the legs, forcing him to surrender. He didn't last long, but bled out on the pavement.
Police deliberately held off paramedics -- saying the scene wasn't ''safe''. Cops knew the CA courts would've let him off easy. An example about Cop Killers had to be made.
@@HootOwl513 Wrong on so many counts. I was living ten minutes from the scene when that happened. First, no one was killed but the two thugs, one of whom died from a self-inflicted shot. No cops died that day, nor civilians. Second, it was not confirmed that there were only two perps at that stage, as the live reports included witnesses who thought there were three. I was watching the local coverage in real time. In the heat of that crazy battle, nothing was certain. Not allowing medics to treat an already dying terrorist in what was still considered a live hot zone is simply a smart decision. Whatever you think about cops allowing "cop killers" do die without due process, you have no case to be made here. As to the CA courts letting him off easy, well that was already the history. Both perps had been arrested in possession of firearms illegally. This was far from their first rodeo. It was one of those nice CA judges who ruled that they should have their firearms returned, thus enabling them to attempt the North Hollywood robbery.
@@Rollin_L Well my facts were hazy. But eleven officers were wounded, some gravely. Police were wary that a third suspect could still be at large. A 2000 lawsuit on behalf of Matasereanu's children alleging LAPD had violated his civil rights by refusing medical treatment leading to his subsequent death, resulted in a hung jury and a mistrial.
@@HootOwl513 That such a lawsuit even was allowed to go to trial is a travesty in itself. Do anyone think that violent terrorist was going to make a good father? I can just imagine the pride those kids have in their daddy's memory. Sheesh. The family dismissed the lawsuit following that outcome, in exchange for not having a malicious prosecution suit leveled in return. This was a lawyer's game, the children just being made victims, as if their own father hadn't 'already done enough damage. To my point, It's easy in the aftermath to state that it would have been safe to bring in medical aid right away, but that is not how the situation appeared in real time. Concern for a third perp was legitimate until it could be conclusively proven that the danger was over. No one should weep for Matasareanu. He got to sleep in the bed he made for himself.
Great to see an Aussie video Santee, for any non Aussies, the most accurate production of the Ned Kelly story is The Last Outlaw with John Jarrett as Ned from 1980. The latest movie called The true history of the Kelly gang, makes the story look like a joke, I am actually glad I got knocked back as an extra for that movie. Keep the great videos coming.
Thank you. I enjoyed every movie so far on the subject, but was cautious of the last one. It did, however, give me an idea of the true squalor the family must ahve experienced at some point.
Interesting bit of trivia about Australia. Everyone is familiar with the fact that English (and Irish) inmates were sent there as punishment. The sentence was called Transportation, and even today, it's a rarely used word in the country. For instance, the government agency in charge of roads is called the Ministry of Transport.
I have always remembered the joke about flying into the country, and when the customs guy asks if you are a criminal, ask back "Is that still a requirement?".
Coming back to this as well-- After he was hanged he was buried in an unmarked grave. In 1929, the site in the Gaol where he was buried was being being developed for new police headquarters and when the remains were unearthed it was a free-for-all and civilians grabbed all the bones they could get, hoping they were Ned's. Eventually, the bones were returned and reburied until they were dug up again by personnel looking to locate Ned's bones. All were found except his skull, someone did claim they had Ned's skull which was put on display at the Melbourne Gaol for years until DNA tests revealed it wasn't Ned's! He finally had the Catholic funeral service he deserved in 2013 with all the remains that were found of him, and he's been buried in an unmarked grave in the cemetery where the rest of his family members are buried. Lord knows where his skull is now, though!

Those of us American sailors who were in Australia while that song (Down Under by Men At Work) was popular, know that the lyric is "Were women glow and men chunder." Hey Santee Love Your Videos Can You Do A Video On Varmint Rifles Of The Old West?
I can. Thank You!
Those of us American sailors who were in Australia while that song (Down Under by Men At Work) was popular, know that the lyric is "Were women glow and men chunder." Chunder is a slang word for vomit. They drink a lot of beer. The lyric was changed for American radio, because the word was unknown to the States, and sounded gross. Which it is.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Cool. Thanks!
Great stuff Santee, Mongo like 🌵🚂🚃🚃🌵
Thanks 👍
Awesome job, Santee! Great research and topic. Heard of Ned Kelly before, but did not really know the story. How's yer head?
Good! Ghost hits are suprisingly brief in the pain department.
Where Beer does flow and men chunder!! That means puke! As always, I enjoyed
the coffee visit!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey Santee, would you be able to do a series on rating the historical accuracy of the viewers outfits? Thank you.
Good idea. I'm not sure how many of my viewers actually dress in accurate clothing.
@@ArizonaGhostriders personally I would love to, although with me living in Ireland I’m having an extremely difficult time finding period accurate clothing to do so.
@@JoeTayto I get it. There are Facebook pages devoted to historically accurate western clothing. Much of it custom. Very inspirational.
The Australian iron man, OG Steve Irwin, and national hero.
OK!
I've heard the name, but didn't know anything about him. Thanks!
You're welcome.
It's interesting how the whole business exposed the police corruption we might need a few like him today
Not sure there is more corruption today. Seems not as much.
Hyah mule, HYAH!
