Neat story but, the cruisers carried Curtiss Seagulls then the Curtiss SC Seahawk with fold up wings to fit in the hangers. My dad was on the USS Louisville CA 28 near sister ship from 1943-46 and passed in 2017 at almost 93 years old. Take care!

That's like me. Dad was a Seabee in the 111th special battalion. Part of special forces in those days He helped unload the bomb sections. He said the John Wayne movie was pretty darn close to how it really was. Now I know why he bought a house with the number 111 on it to raise us in?! That number has popped up a few times in my 63 years. So I get your drift.

It would be many years later that I would find out on my own that my uncle Bob was an 18 year old sailor that was on the USS Indianapolis, his remains were never found. He's got a memorial marker at the cemetery and his name on a few walls. By the time I was born they were both deceased so I never got to meet my uncle Bob or my grandmother 😢💔

USS Indianapolis CA 35 should have had a destroyer to escort her especially since a ship was torpedoed there a few weeks earlier and sunk. My dad who passed in 2017 at 92 was on the Heavy Cruiser USS Louisville CA 28 from 1943-46 and she was hit by kamikaze in Lingayen Gulf in Jan. 1945 with the loss of 51 sailors and Rear Admiral Theodore Chandler and over 150 men wounded. Still, our government threw him out of the military ripped him off for his veterans benefits until he committed suicide in 1964. By the way his widow also got to suffer for that unfairly. He always insisted the Hiroshima bomb and the Nagasaki one were shipped in sections. The Seabee's unloaded them and they were assembled in the Quonset hut's they'd built. She was told to report for more training, the captain even requested for a destroyers escort but it was denied for there not being any recent reports of submarine activity, which was wrong as earlier that week there had been some exchanges.

Derek Wall The exact location is being kept secret out of respect for the families of the Indy's crew and to protect the wreck from deep-water salvagers.

    • @sirboomsalot4902

It’s deep, but they want to be sure they won’t be salvaged. Salvagers have been raiding those old WWII wrecks for years. De Ruyter and Java are gone, Houston and Perth and missing large parts, Prince of Wales and Repulse have been blown open, Shigure is a pile of metal, and many more. Although it is still unlikely could get that deep

How could anyone say anything bad about this story/movie when this story/movie is based off true effects worse than any horror movie out there? Even in words its unimaginable how any person in their shoes possibly say what's that is like especially when you have never been in that situation or ever will. It was never the captain McVays fault it was the navy that blamed the captain. Also when a ship or submarine is targeted the vessel has no chance of getting away no matter what it does to get away it will be sunk or killed never their fault.
