I know a guy who gets $8000ish a year on his tax "return" after paying nothing. He always wants more, including "free" health insurance. I told him to use that return to pay his premiums for the year with that. Instead he spends half on toys for himself and blows the rest on various levels of frivolous spending and nothing on debts. Oh it gets better, he gets $3,400 in stimulus and less than a month later he is stuck at home, calling off sick from work because he doesn't have any money for gas before his next paycheck. Wow!
@@OscarWithC In due time the IRS catches up with everyone. One thing I learned a while ago is Uncle Sam will Always get what he wants and you’re better off accepting that and paying in everything you owe right away because you will be forced to eventually regardless (and often times with a big penalty)
After your tax liability is calculated, you can claim credits to lower it. Nonrefundable ones can take your tax liability to $0. Refundable ones can make it negative, which generates a "refund". It is legally possible to get paid more than ever paid in.
“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” -Benjamin Franklin “To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.” -Thomas Jefferson
Michael Seckman That is called a strawman to bring up a different point then argue against it. No, the economic game is the same. Different players, but it is fundamentally the same. It's just supply and demand.
No where in the Constition does it provide for a income tax. The Constition provides for taxes to be apportioned to the states. The 16th was ruled to not have created any new tax from the original apportionment.
Yes it's possible, but the poll is sampling that is supposed to be a representation of the the population as a whole. A ratio, since it's not practical to poll all people who file taxes. Polls usually have a margin of error (which wasn't stated here). If that margin is low enough, what Dave said is rather accurate.
What exactly are we paying for? Why should I pay an entity only for them to tell me what I can and cannot do? I pay a babysitter for my kids...I don't need a babysitter for myself.
taxation is theft. if you support taxes you support theft. their are only 2 means of accumulating resources, that is voluntary or through the use of force. everything the government does is backed by the use of force. they gave themselves the right to steal our money.
@@xinflict3078 Then stop bitching and move to a country that doesn't have taxes. It's not a hard concept. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Kuwait, and many more. You have a choice so make it. Or you can realize that part of a strong government is taxes.
While we pay very little in federal tax, we pay a lot of other tax. Social security, Medicare tax, sdi, property tax, sales tax, all the taxes that added onto utilities like phone bill and stuff, car registration tax. These are the taxes all people pay regardless of the income. These taxes alone will add up to at least 18%. Just the taxes of my paycheck are like 10%, and it doesn't include federal tax, then, the 8% sales tax on everything I buy, plus all the hidden taxes we don't even see. For a family with an income that is less than 25K, paying 4k in just these taxes, plus another 2k property tax every year, is a lot bigger chank than for someone making over 100k a year. It takes at least 30k a year just to meet basic human needs for a family. If we make less than that, plus pay a huge chank of it in taxes, we end up going without a lot of basic needs. So every extra dollar that goes to taxes on top of that, makes us go without even more things
That is why we need a limited government and a flat tax. We are taxed to death because the government is too big and loves to spend other people's money. So now what we have is more and more taxes because taxation without representation is theft.
Hi *Ramsey* just curious can you show me a law that says I have to pay an Income Tax . . . I know the 16th Amendment talks about the income tax but what law says we have to . . . So far I can't find it. I want to do a TH-cam video on the law that says we have to pay income tax . . .
The problem Dave is that also Apple computer, Microsoft, General Electric, Verizon, Bank of America, etc pay 0 taxes and also receive tax refunds of billions of dollars. Let’s focus on the important ones and stop picking on the ones who are making 30k
Couldn't have said it better myself. 1. Abolish the Income Tax totally 2. Abolish the IRS and everything associated with it 3. Abolish the Federal Reserve Act and all that is associated with it. 4. Abolish the Federal Reserve, the bankers that sit on it and all their monetary policies. 5. Abolish Keneysian policies as well which say the more debt we have the better the economy is. I am sure there are more but this is just a starting point.
You know who else needs to pay their fair share? Corporate America. Family owned businesses are struggling but multi million and billion dollar corporations pay less, thanks to write offs, etc. Flat tax for everyone. The middle class is taxed in so many different ways right now, we don't even know the final true tax amount we pay
I like that quote about the government spending money on silly things like wild flower research. Spent my first summer in college at a biological station. I learned a lot of important things about data sampling, verifying and eliminating bias, and that a study on frog calls is worth a multi million dollar government grant...and it had been renewed for the third year in a row
I like most of what you preach Dave, but I strongly disagree on this one. No one should have to pay the federal Income Tax. Its an immoral tax. It is theft. You can accomplish taxing through other means such as sales tax, gasoline tax, etc. (these are taxes you can opt out of) but taxing one's income is unacceptable in my book. I don't expect this to change, but thats just my personal view on the matter.
Then how would public schools, medicare, FBI, military, and all the other functions of the government get funded?....... If you live in this country and are using public services then you need to help pay for them. Simple as that
+Megan Kramer So, this is just a personal view of mine, I'm a libertarian in case you want to look it up. To start, public schools are largely funded through property taxes and state sales taxes. Medicare and Medicaid I believe we shouldn't even have. Not a function for the government to serve. You can debate this one but that is where I stand. There are various other agencies of government that I think we should get rid of (dept. of commerce, education, energy, housing, interior to start). This would further reduce the need for funding. But yes, we still need to fund the military, FBI, among other things. Like I said in my previous response, you can accomplish taxing through other means. Sales taxes, gasoline taxes, toll road fees, corporate taxes, etc. These are are all taxes you are not forced to give into. You don't need to buy gas, or buy in general. It is an option for the most part. Income tax is forced on you. No way out, unless you renounce your citizenship (which costs money to do so). I'm not opposed to taxes, just opposed to the idea that I HAVE to give in. Feel free to disagree, but idk.. this is just my personal view on the matter. :)
+Javier Diaz Jr. Wants to get rid of medicare, medicaid, housing and education smh. All need skin in the game. Ive always felt if u are truly correct in ur points u should support education. Because if other people are educated alongside u then in theory if u are right everyone will agree with you
+Michael Seckman My problem with Medicaid and Medicare is not so much the programs themselves nor the services they provide, its that its run by the federal government. I simply ascribe to the idea that the government shouldn't be involved in healthcare whatsoever (many other things too, but thats another discussion). As per education, I did not say I didn't support education. I simply said we should get rid of the U.S. Dept. of Education. Its not a role for the federal government to serve is the way I see it. I suspect you'll disagree with me and feel free to do so. I just simply prefer a smaller federal government with as little intervention in our everyday lives. :) #libertarian #freemarketcapitalism #laissezfaire
+Javier Diaz Jr. I agree with you. Nowhere in the Constitution does it grant the federal government to do about 90% of what they do. That is why our nation is in the mess that it is in. If the federal government was kept in the box that the Constitution says it should be in, then the states and the local government should be able to take care of everything else. I have many Libertarian leanings and agree with much of what the party stands for. All of this discussion is good and is a perfect example of why Constitutional limits on government are a good thing. When the federal government dabbles in things that it is forbidden to dabble in, things go south in a hurry. We could sit here and start listing things and the list would grow very quickly. When the federal government does things that it isn't allowed to do legally, and they can borrow all of the money that it wants from the FED, then we will have $19 trillion in debt, $200 trillion in unfunded liabilities, 700 military bases all over the world, states and people forced to do things against their will because someone in Washington DC says that we have to, etc etc. Our founding fathers revolted against England for much less than what we are faced with today. It isn't just income taxes. Isn't it ironic that America went from nothing in 1776 to a world super power and we didn't even have an income tax until 1913. The income tax is only to keep the citizens broke and to allow the Congress to spend money on things that they are not allowed to spend money on. The federal gov't would function just fine with no income tax. If one would just read the books, "The Law that Never Was", it is proven that the 16th amendment was never properly ratified anyway. There are so many things in this nation that are broken and it all starts with the federal government.
On my checks from work I take out 0 for dependants and I'm paying $356 every two weeks for federal income tax..... that's ridiculous..... and meanwhile there's Americans on bogus disability claims, welfare, etc. ridiculous
The Grace commission found that the taxes collected by the IRS goes to pay the interest on the money created by the federal reserve. None of it is used for the citizens.
If that were the case, they should have phrased it as "x% of US taxpayers say.." but they didnt. Their phrasing implies the data should be proportional of the whole country
wolftreetree poor people have money. If poor people paid federal income tax like the other 50% of Americans do, things would change really quick in Washington.
Easy to say everyone should pay income taxes when you are worth 55 million dollars. Why should Americans pay more taxes when the money goes to a bunch of politicians that haven't been able to balance a budget in years. Americans have skin in the game, they've been showing up to work forever. The issue is, Americans don't get to vote on real issues. They get to vote on a bunch of politicians that don't really represent peoples interest. Dave, for a guy worth 55 million dollars you sure aren't looking out for the people that made you rich. Why should everyone join the military? Let's be honest, we haven't been attacked in over 70 years. Everything else from that point on has been government agenda. Had Americans been able to vote on issues and not politicians things could have been very different.
I've gotten earned income tax credit a couple of times years ago. I used it to pay for community college courses. I've since payed way more into the system since. I completely see your point but I just wanted you know that maybe not all of that money goes to waste.
1. By Jason Bramwell. Thanks to an improved economy and the expiration of most tax stimulus measures, the percentage of Americans who pay no federal income tax is falling, from 47 percent of households in 2010 to 43 percent in 2013, according to new estimates from the Tax Policy Center (TPC).Feb 22, 2016 Oct 6, 2015 - The Tax Policy Center has updated its estimate of the percentage of households that will not pay federal income tax this year. We now figure it is 45.3 percent, nearly 5 percentage points higher than our 2013 estimate of 40.4 percent. But that doesn't mean more Americans have moved off the tax rolls.
Voting is how we decide who gets to decide how to spend our money. If you pay nothing into the system, why do you get to vote to decide who gets to spend everyone else's money?
Income tax shouldn't exist at all. But on a side note(without seeing the study)---I don't think your rant is contextually right. Even if your stats are right that only 55% of the total millions of Americans pay income tax, the study was not based on total amount of Americans. I didn't answer that question "Do we pay too much in income tax?" just to prove it, neither did my wife. It's possible the sample included more people who do pay than those who don't pay income taxes--or due to an odd fluke they only questioned people who actually DO pay taxes. Again I haven't seen the study--but this rant seems like it's based on a false foundation.
+droptozro The study is based on IRS statistics. I am a tax accountant, and from experience I can tell you that this number is entirely accurate. Many Americans who make less than 40k and have children pay nothing in income taxes, but get money back due to the earned income credit. I've had many low-income clients with children get back anywhere from $4-10k without any tax liability due to EIC and ACTC. Also, many farmers and business owners I've worked with pay nothing in income taxes due large write-offs with depreciation. You also need to consider senior citizens. If their only income is social security, they pay nothing in taxes. In fact, if they structure their income accordingly, they can have around 40k in combined social security, IRA/Pension/Investment income due to the taxability rules for social security. Of all the tax returns I completed, 45% not paying taxes actually seems accurate, and what they're doing is perfectly legal.
Nate G01 well this information has me infuriated! $4-10k BACK from tax credits? I made significantly over $40k last year and didn't even get back $3k, nothing owed to the government at least. Talk about unfair though!!!!!
It is possible many of those pay money all year and receive it back- therefore, the government has access to their money for the year and makes a profit from it. That should count as a form of payment as we all benefit from their loan.
It could be possible that the people that took the survey were mostly federal tax paying people therefore 57% of those that are paying federal tax could be an actuate number.
+MARIE RIDDICK Yes, but then that means statistically the survey is biased and unreliable...which is proven by the facts he stated. That was the whole point of this. People will quote this survey like it means something, but it is worthless.
As a libertarian, I question the different taxes created by the government. I want a limited government with a flat tax. Government loves to spend other people's money and do not know how to spend wisely. Plus, the tax laws are so convoluted, the rich can find loopholes while the welfare system for both the poor and the rich should be curtailed.
nobody should be paying any taxes, we as Americans should have adopted the Elizabethian approach to taxation which was "I shall only take what my subjects are willing to give " do you understand that remark. no taxation turned Britain into a super power in less than one generation, and no regulations turned America into a super power in 4generations, so calling for income tax for all is not only an affront to liberty but history as well. the first amendment should have been repealing the right to lay and collect taxes.
This being okay with taxation is troubling. If you give the gov't money and say that's a good thing, it encourages them to do even more and more and we should be able to see how that's working out for everyone, not well.
You can make the same argument against the Child Tax Credit. Why do I, as a single, childless person, have to pay more than a person earning the same amount that has a child? That child demands so much more from the system than I do (schools, Medicaid, police, etc.). We are no longer a nation in need of more people like we were in the 19th century. There should be a child tax PENALTY, not a credit.
If people will stop having kids, 30 years from now we will turn into a retirement community, and 50 years later, into a cemetery. Do you really want that for your country?
A child tax penalty would not stop everyone from having children, but it may stop low income people from having children, which would be a good thing as there will be less demand for entitlements. The fewer people we have here in the US, the more resources will be available for those of us that are here.
There shouldn't be any deductions for having children. People need to learn how to adult and quit having children if you know you can't afford to raise them. Everything in life has a cost and most of America is too stupid to account for consequences of raising a child. Step 1, make enough money and have career on track. Step 2, have kid(s) because financially ready to. Step 3, raise them appropriately and give them good childhood growing up because you aren't broke and missed out on Step 1.
Either we're a federal republic or we aren't. We don't get a direct vote for president, but the federal gets a direct source of revenue from our pocket book. IRS should be abolished and any unfunded balance should be divided up and billed to the states in proportion to representation in the house.
In France, we have a saying about our governement (socialist): "Give me your watch, I'll tell you what time it is"! Here as well, only a portion of the population pays income tax, the reason why is that it's more expensive to collect a small tax than just let it go incollected. This might change in 2017 when the employer will collect the income tax directly from the pay check.
Pay taxes so the gov can launder it to their own pockets. We would be fine with taxes if we could see exactly where every dollar is going with complete transparency.
Dave its because they are too poor to pay those taxes. Many of those people barely make it by anyway making less than 20 grand a year. 15% of your income and 15% of theirs is not the same. That 15% of their income hurts them WAYY more than it hurts you. Instead of focusing on these poor people lets focus in on the corporations that pay zero taxes and actually get tax refunds when they made billions in profits.
Don't think he's saying that the 20k individuals should pay 15%, more of a token contribution so they feel they have a stake in how the government spends taxes. Anyhow I'd like to hear how he feels about the corporations funnelling profits through tax havens to avoid paying much of anything to the American government certainly not 30% like they're supposed to.
+Ronan Cleary I was about to ask that question myself. Corps like GE make billions in profit, and are still subsidized by the government to the tune of half a billion annually, each. How is that right?
goldfische The thinking is that if the government subsidizes them, the corporations won't move over seas and so it gives people jobs. This isn't a new phenomena at all. These type of tax incentives have been used for a long long time. More so on the state level to attract businesses, but with globalization it is occurring more on the federal level. You are definitely allowed to disagree with this, but that is the rationale. Also for information's sake, in 2015 GE had an income tax expense of $6.4 billion according to yahoo finance and that left it with a $1.7 billion profit after tax.
+knpstrr Thanks for the correction. Obviously I've got GE mixed up with another corporation. That said, I can't help but feel that paying subsidies to profitable companies just for a few jobs (remember that many of the worst offenders still hire foreign workers and buy foreign parts, etc.) is essentially blackmail. I know that's working out better for companies like GE than it does for us. Just saying.
earned income credit is a scam...... what is earned income credit??? its more like unearned income credit. i know people that make either nothing or next to nothing and get $8-$9,000 tax refund. except that's not a refund, its a handout. they then put pictures on facebook of their new washers, dryers, furniture, and TV's. it's outrageous.
if you dont make any money you get the EIC check. its like fuel economy, 55 mph is the sweet spot and a certain income will net you the highest EIC check while earning less or more will net you less. ask a tax place to show you the IRS EIC table.
Make it a flat tax rate. Everyone pays it. Rich still pay more because raw dollars is higher than poor person. We all use the same services so we should at least pay the same percentage (even if rich pay more raw dollars).
***** you can build a road without taking other people's money. In fact all the roads around my house, are paid for by the people who live in the houses, and nobody else.
***** i dunno, in texas we have a bullet train going from houston to dallas, and maybe to austin later on. Without government stealing land to build it. The train company has paid for the land all from willing land owners. nobody was forced to do it. Also in Austin there are several areas that are all privet owned roads between apts, big stores and a mall....
***** Any a quick search on google :/ www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-07-21/bullet-train-plan-banks-on-texas-turning-more-urban-less-cowboy doesn't look like its being paid for by tax payers, but by stakeholders And that link is coming from bloomberg... a huge pro government, more tax, more spending site
His overall point here is right but his view of the details is wrong. Sure, everyone should pay income tax, even if it's a dollar for the very poor, but how can he sit there and say that taxes on the rich shouldn't be increased when so many of them are paying LOWER percentages of their incomes than middle class people?? Ridiculous. And Dave should know that since he said he doesn't mind paying the same percentage. Well Dave, many wealthy people pay lower percentages. Like 10%, when middle class is paying 28%. Those loopholes need to be closed. That simple.
+John Lee That money gifted to churches(even though I disagree with the entire concept of misusing the 'tithe' of giving to a church) has already been taxed as income by the givers. If you gifted $10 to your family member, it has no income tax again even if he uses it for his upkeep of life.
+droptozro Not necessarily. A great deal of money is gifted to churches by people who are on welfare - i.e. people too poor to be giving money away, and yet, they do. I have mixed feelings about that.
Paying does not equal giving... That's why you missed the point. Property taxes are not done by federal government. But those shouldn't exist at all either... That's an entirely different argument though.
Lol no I'm not. Paying for a product or a service is business. Faith and worship are not a service or business... I doubt you even know what those words really mean. Even with your misuse of the words...no one requires you give anything in a church.
James Adams look at presidents son in law. Makes $350M last year, paid ZERO in federal taxes for the year while some poor schnook earning $30K/year paying 6K. Welcome to America
@@swisstrader no, he didn't. First off you're wrong about the income because he's WORTH about that much, which isn't the same as income. Second, when you actually do look at the income, it would be negative due to depreciation (not that you'd understand that since you've shown no regard for facts in your entire comment). Also no person earning $30k is paying $6k in federal income taxes so that's wrong too. First $12k is not taxed, the next $9525 is taxed at 10% and the last $8,475 would be taxed at 12% for a total of $1,969.50 and that's without any other credits or deductions whatsoever. Do we need to continue the tax lesson?
disagree strongly.... only those who earn profit/'income' off the gov't's 'things' should have to pay ( as the Law actually states)....aka if you enjoy a federal 'privilege' which means making money from the gov't....THEN one is liable for a % of that 'income' going back to the govt.
We should go back to the good old days where you had to own land to vote. All the libtards living in cities, their votes gone. Most people don't own a house till their late 20s no more 18 year old social justice warriors voting. If you don't own land, should have no say in how this land is governed.
A direct, permanent, unapportioned tax upon the income from our labor IS de facto slavery. How is the income tax, enforced by bureaucratic means, any different from mafia extortion, minus the thuggery - unless we go Socialist, in which we would get free education and medical? Will someone please explain this to me?
This excludes payroll taxes, right? Because there are no deductions on those. I'm guessing that 2% is from folks who mix federal income taxes with payroll taxes.
Dave I believe your statement is off. 1. The rich are not the only ones paying taxes. In fact there are enough tax loop holes where they pay much less than middle class by far. 2. If you work for any kind of company usually your Federal and state income tax is taken out of your pay before you even get paid. I would really like to examine the data of the statistical analysis of the statement that only 50% pay taxes. It just doesn't add up.
I think a straight flat tax would be the most fair. People on the lower side of the income would pay something and people on the high end of the income spectrum would not be allowed to use loopholes like depreciation to get out of paying taxes. In a real flat taxes system there would be ALMOST NO DEDUCTIONS, which is how the wealthy avoid taxes. Some deductions like a education deduction and a foreign income tax credit could still exist since education is good and double taxation is bad.
For those that currently so broke and pay no taxes, the behavior needs to change. We live in a capitalistic society, where you could have limitless potential (IF YOU WORK FOR IT) and don't make poor life choices. Too many people don't think of consequences of their actions and just complain for free handouts. Take a look at someone richer than you, and use that to motivate and drive you to succeed further in life so you can obtain similar success.
It's true. There are people who don't pay in but get money back. Single women with kids getting thousands in tax free child support working a $20-30k job pay $0 and get $6k back.
+Marisa G The middle class taxpayer subsidizes the low wage employer when their employees make so little money that they qualify for welfare and EIC. The angry taxpayer blames the low wage worker for this crony capitalist scam
The people that "get money back" they GIVE EVERY WEEK, from their pay check. Most people that have a business, they give once a year, and they "get back" a reduction when they report losses and many other things they report.
You can't have a government like this without an income tax. But who says I and a lot of other people in this country want a government like this? If you love the drug war, propping up foreign dictators and then overthrowing said dictators, then love the income tax. We've only had an income tax since 1913. People act as though the income tax is the only revenue stream for our federal government. It's not. This country can survive without an income tax.
I make 7.75 per hour... actually scratch that, since like 15 percent of what I make gets stolen by the government anyways, so I’m actually only making about 6.50 an hour. And don’t even get me started on the taxes of products... Since they can’t raise taxes THAT much on products, they raise the price itself, even more than how much the tax percentage is, but you still gotta spend more tax money on a price raised product anyways because it’s already based on a certain percentage of how much you are spending in the first place! Also, what’s the point of taxes in the first place? They are going to do tax returns in February anyways, so the government really isn’t gaining any money, if they are spending the tax money, how are we even getting that money back from tax returns? What, is my money just fraud counterfeit? My conclusion: It’s just one big scam!
Only corporations should pay taxes!!! No individual people should pay taxes just like it used to be before the Federal reserve!!!! Now NO one should be getting any free money either!!!
What do you think about the large corporations such as GM and United and American Airlines not paying any tax this year? Or the the 300,000 religious congratulations that absolutely 0 tax as well? By the way, they 600 Billion dollars of property. Is it ok for them not to have skin in the game?
+ReyReyloads There are a number of reasons why a profitable company may not pay taxes. In this case they wrote off loses from earlier years . That's the law under the tax code and it's legal. In fact any business can do it. Big or small. And the fact is In 2015, General Motors saw a tax credit of of $1.9 billion, even though its earnings before taxes hit $7.7 billion but they did indeed pay a big tax bill.
+TELEVISIONARCHIVES And the half-ish not paying any income tax is supported by law, as well. I'm not saying I agree with that or not, but I don't think that the legality of things was really his point. There is a principle at work here, and this country desperately needs tax reform (in my humble opinion).
what if i told you that businesses roll taxes levied against them into their goods or services? thats right, the consumer foots that bill, still want businesses to pay their fair share?
I'm poor enough that I receive a Pell and other government grants. I also worked hard enough to earn private scholarships that I actually have to pay tax on those grants and get paid by the government to go to college outside of room and board. Gotta love a government that just takes other people's money, gives 1-2k to someone who paid nothing in and gets to go to school for free, while inflating the price for the people who paid in.
Id be very interested in your take on Bernie's belief that big corporations/rich people are taking advantage of off shore account loop holes and not paying a penny in federal IT. Is this true to your knowledge Mr. Ramsey?
57% of people that took the quiz/poll might not represent individuals who don’t pay taxes. If you survey 100 people and 80% pay taxes then that 57% that have an issue actually might pay taxes.
If everyone has to pay something, then all of a sudden nothing is "free" anymore. So then people when actually have to pay taxes on that new social program they want so bad, instead of assuming somebody else is paying for it. As an aside, why do people get a check if their deductions are more than their income? I would think the it just carry over the loss to the next tax year like corporate taxes. And they'll have that extra deduction once their income increases. That part doesn't make any sense to me.
I lost respect for Dave in this video. The income tax didn't exist for 137 years in the United States. Its "more American" to not pay this tax. We should abolish the tax, not raise it. This is poorly misguided economic philosophy. Government doesn't have an income problem, it has a spending problem.
I love Dave but sometimes I forget he’s a radio host first and financial advisor second. He makes good points most of the time but then he has radical viewpoints like this. Why is it ok to give big business tax breaks to build acres of warehouses but not the guy making so little he can’t buy a house ever? Life’s not fair for everyone both rich and poor, can’t only complain when you’re the one with the short end of the stick.
Wow!
How does that even work? in Sweden he would be in jail for taxfraud
I know a woman who gets “disability” and gets 4-5,000 a year in tax refund.
@@OscarWithC In due time the IRS catches up with everyone. After your tax liability is calculated, you can claim credits to lower it. Nonrefundable ones can take your tax liability to $0. Refundable ones can make it negative, which generates a "refund". It is legally possible to get paid more than ever paid in.
🤦
Or...we could just shrink the federal government to more manageable levels.
***** My thoughts exactly.
@Dump Lump it would happen if we elect a libertarian.
AMEN!!!
Agree, but it will never happen in the USA,!
Only half of people don't pay income taxes? We're halfway to the goal. Repeal the 16th and implement the fair tax.
YEAH!
you probably missed the point of the video.
Fair tax is a scam
Alexander Vaughan it used to be illegal to tax American citizens when we were not at war.
We need to have some form of government so we need taxes. However I also wish the scope of the federal government could be much smaller.
“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” -Benjamin Franklin
“To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.”
-Thomas Jefferson
Thomas jefferson also believed in slavery and Ben Franklin did not allow women to vote. Do you agree with that too?
+Michael Seckman it was a different game back then
Michael Seckman That is called a strawman to bring up a different point then argue against it.
No, the economic game is the same. Different players, but it is fundamentally the same. It's just supply and demand.
Michael Seckman as I said, different players, same game.
That is not a logical argument Michael. Counter his point, don't bring in outside topics. Of course slavery is wrong.
Half don't pay income tax?
Well, we're halfway there!
Nobody should pay income tax. Taxation is *theft*
Eliminate the income tax.
No where in the Constition does it provide for a income tax. The Constition provides for taxes to be apportioned to the states. The 16th was ruled to not have created any new tax from the original apportionment.
We were also supposed to remain on the gold standard. But democraps happened
Dave... it's 57% of those who were polled. So it's possible that more than 55% of the people polled pay income tax. I just face palmed so hard.
+1 to this comment
+Grace Culver He's always been bad about conflating numbers
+Grace Culver Not the only one who saw this, thanks haha
Yes it's possible, but the poll is sampling that is supposed to be a representation of the the population as a whole. A ratio, since it's not practical to poll all people who file taxes. Polls usually have a margin of error (which wasn't stated here). If that margin is low enough, what Dave said is rather accurate.
Grace Culver so did i... face palm..... and he said the people are stupid..... his opening statement showed his intelligence level
What exactly are we paying for? Why should I pay an entity only for them to tell me what I can and cannot do? I pay a babysitter for my kids...I don't need a babysitter for myself.
Shawn Moorsp
Well said Shawn I wanted to say the same thing ... but no need to .. you did an excellent job of teaching those who will hear 👍
taxation is theft. if you support taxes you support theft. their are only 2 means of accumulating resources, that is voluntary or through the use of force. everything the government does is backed by the use of force. they gave themselves the right to steal our money.
@@xinflict3078 Then stop bitching and move to a country that doesn't have taxes. It's not a hard concept. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Kuwait, and many more. You have a choice so make it. Or you can realize that part of a strong government is taxes.
@@michaelcooper1860 not everyone can afford to just move. in the real world its not "dont like it? then leave".

Build a boat and get sailing. 🤣
Sorry Dave, but an income tax means the government owns your income/ fruit of your labor. We need to eliminate the income tax.
More people need to view it like this.
Because they do in some way from you being a citizen of this country. If the draft comes back and you skip it. They really show you who owns who lol
Count me in on this for sure 👍 👌 💯
let's do it
What's your alternative? Governments from the beginning of governments need funding.
Dave is going the wrong way with his frustration. He's right approximately 50% pay income tax so we're halfway there to having NO ONE pay income tax
No one should have to pay income tax.
Half of America doesn’t have the income to pay income taxes. As my dad used to say, you can’t get blood out of a turnip.
The government doesn't have a REVENUE problem. The government has a SPENDING problem.
It's time to abolish the current tax code and abolish the IRS
Couldn't have said it better myself.
1. Abolish the Income Tax totally
2. Abolish the IRS and everything associated with it
May have mentioned this before: if poor people had to start paying income tax, things in DC would start changing real quick
On my checks from work I take out 0 for dependants and I'm paying $356 every two weeks for federal income tax..... that's ridiculous..... and meanwhile there's Americans on bogus disability claims, welfare, etc. ridiculous
TWDxKILL3R how much is your gross pay?
You should quit your job so you can cut your taxes to zero! That will show everybody!!
The Grace commission found that the taxes collected by the IRS goes to pay the interest on the money created by the federal reserve. None of it is used for the citizens.
"I've been rich and I've been poor and believe me, rich is better." --Billy Rose.
Who could have guessed
The 2% thing you keep mentioning is incorrect.
The study could have been for the 55% that DO pay taxes, i.e. 57% OF THE 55% say they pay too much.
It's much more incorrect than that. It's 57% of 1,015 polled people.
Thank you for helping me maintain my sanity. I love Dave, but this made me cringe Lol
I was about to say.. Dave of all people should not be making these such claims
If that were the case, they should have phrased it as "x% of US taxpayers say.." but they didnt. Their phrasing implies the data should be proportional of the whole country
The poor don't pay, because they don't have the money. I agree that if you don't pay in you shouldn't get anything back.
wolftreetree poor people have money. If poor people paid federal income tax like the other 50% of Americans do, things would change really quick in Washington.
But they have often more money than I do who work, and they get to vote in people who tax me. They can afford it, but it comes down to buying votes
I don't care if they don't make much money everybody needs to contribute and pay taxes
PrimePerception he didnt say everyone should join the military
Dave made himself rich...period!!!
Has Dave Ramsey ever read the book Income Tax: Shattering the Myths by Dave Champion?
I've gotten earned income tax credit a couple of times years ago. I used it to pay for community college courses. I've since payed way more into the system since. I completely see your point but I just wanted you know that maybe not all of that money goes to waste.

By Jason Bramwell.
Thanks to an improved economy and the expiration of most tax stimulus
measures, the percentage of Americans who pay no federal income tax is
falling, from 47 percent of households in 2010 to 43 percent in 2013, according to new estimates from the Tax Policy Center (TPC).Feb 22, 2016
Oct 6, 2015 - The
Tax Policy Center has updated its estimate of the percentage of
households that will not pay federal income tax this year. We now figure
it is 45.3 percent, nearly 5 percentage points higher than our 2013 estimate of 40.4 percent. But that doesn't mean more Americans have moved off the tax rolls.
Voting is how we decide who gets to decide how to spend our money. If you pay nothing into the system, why do you get to vote to decide who gets to spend everyone else's money?
So how about spending 1.3 million to hack a phone that had no data on it? Does that go along with 20,000 dollar toilet seats?

Texas don’t have State Income Tax & we are kinda proud of it. We are all over taxed!
Again I haven't seen the study--but this rant seems like it's based on a false foundation.
agree
Idk where you're from buddy but Texas doesn't have them man.
I'd like to hear Dave's input on the corporate inversions & large companies that reportedly pay no income tax-but get money back from the goverment.
Another way to state this, 45% of Americans do not pay federal income tax and receive money from the federal government.
How is it that half the country doesn't pay federal income taxes? What do they know that I don't? What is the definition of "income earner"?
You make sense in one area but then you go on the full stupid train..
stupid train? no he isn't, he is in reality. maybe you should try being in reality, not a game.
Thank you for speaking on this! I have been saying this the whole time! We have people that get income tax returns and paid NOTHING!
If you paid in nothing, you should not get refundable credit. Filers should get back only what they have already put in.
There's no law saying you must pay income tax . paying income tax is a voluntary action
nobody should be paying any taxes, we as Americans should have adopted the Elizabethian approach to taxation which was "I shall only take what my subjects are willing to give " do you understand that remark. no taxation turned Britain into a super power in less than one generation, and no regulations turned America into a super power in 4generations, so calling for income tax for all is not only an affront to liberty but history as well. the first amendment should have been repealing the right to lay and collect taxes.
Personally as a single, childless taxpayer I appreciate paying for other people's children's educations because I want educated people around me.
Step 3, raise them appropriately and give them good childhood growing up because you aren't broke and missed out on Step 1.
jmorris023 there should be nothing. neutral
+JoeYourAverageBro Where did you get the idea Dave wants them to pay 15%? he just said "something" that could mean $100 or $10 or $1,000.
I pay no federal income tax because I earn enough to pay for NEEDS (not wants), and then volunteer my time in ministry.
way back in the day you could not vote unless you owned property.....the takers will always vote for the person who says the makers do not pay enough.
Make it a flat tax rate. Everyone pays it. Rich still pay more because raw dollars is higher than poor person. We all use the same services so we should at least pay the same percentage (even if rich pay more raw dollars).
how about no tax..... less theft, more freedom

doesn't look like its being paid for by tax payers, but by stakeholders
And that link is coming from bloomberg... a huge pro government, more tax, more spending site
I can't say I disagree.....but "everyone should paying at least something" should apply to churches as well.
That's an entirely different argument though.
goldfische that's our money(government welfare). It is a tax in itself.
Lol no I'm not. Paying for a product or a service is business. Faith and worship are not a service or business... I doubt you even know what those words really mean. Even with your misuse of the words...no one requires you give anything in a church.
The income tax isnt even legal. Its unconstitutional.
Problem is rich people can pay high end tax specialists to avoid paying ANY taxes due to tax loopholes
No, they don't. Look at actual IRS data.
20% flat tax, personal and corporate, everyone pays. That's fair.
The Poor Can't Afford That...
CatholicTraditional 10 percent
Glen Gray then they need to quit being poor
Flat tax on what? If you say income, people rich and poor will find new ways to hide money. Corporate will just pass those cost to consumers.
disagree strongly.... only those who earn profit/'income' off the gov't's 'things' should have to pay ( as the Law actually states)....aka if you enjoy a federal 'privilege' which means making money from the gov't....THEN one is liable for a % of that 'income' going back to the govt.
that was a very unrepublican rant Dave.
Lol 😆
People completely dependent on welfare should be in the same category as criminals. Voting priviliges revoked.
+rustyscrapper Well, since something like less than a quarter of us vote as it is, I'm not sure your plan would make much of a difference.
We should go back to the good old days where you had to own land to vote. All the libtards living in cities, their votes gone. Most people don't own a house till their late 20s no more 18 year old social justice warriors voting. If you don't own land, should have no say in how this land is governed.
@@dand33911 You also cant own land in the U.S. You can only rent it. Try not paying property taxes on "your" land and see who really owns it
Irwin Schiff says nobody but Corporations are required to pay Income Taxes.
Dave is wrong here, taxing people’s labor really is an affront to the individual.
“The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax.”
-Albert Einstein
what about corporate tax??
I think a straight flat tax would be the most fair. People on the lower side of the income would pay something and people on the high end of the income spectrum would not be allowed to use loopholes like depreciation to get out of paying taxes. In a real flat taxes system there would be ALMOST NO DEDUCTIONS, which is how the wealthy avoid taxes. Some deductions like a education deduction and a foreign income tax credit could still exist since education is good and double taxation is bad.
I scrolled down here to see what ridiculous arguments people would try to give against Dave's perspective, and boy, do people not disappoint.
Don't get me started, it feels at this stage of the game that good people are demoralized by design ~
Seems like going to only sales taxes would make sure everyone contributes to taxes
How do someone pay income taxes when they are not allowed to have any amount of money?
The people that "get money back" they GIVE EVERY WEEK, from their pay check. Most people that have a business, they give once a year, and they "get back" a reduction when they report losses and many other things they report.
I receive money when I file my taxes but all of my checks are after tax dollars. I’m not sure if that’s what he meant 🤔
No one should pay an income tax. Period.
+Matthew Akers who would pay for the military (National Defense), Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security, government assistance programs, etc.?
You can't have a government like this without an income tax. But who says I and a lot of other people in this country want a government like this? If you love the drug war, propping up foreign dictators and then overthrowing said dictators, then love the income tax. We've only had an income tax since 1913. People act as though the income tax is the only revenue stream for our federal government. It's not. This country can survive without an income tax.
+Matthew Akers Get rid of all taxes. Privatize everything.
not only survive, but prosper.
ominous450 Other taxes. They should get rid of income tax and increase sales taxes.
My conclusion:
It’s just one big scam!
This is why taxes should be taught in highschool.
I agree 100% and have been saying the same thing for years. It’s refreshing to hear someone else say it.
Only corporations should pay taxes!!! No individual people should pay taxes just like it used to be before the Federal reserve!!!! Now NO one should be getting any free money either!!!
Yes! All citizens should serve their own country !
They say that the child tax credit is a net benefit to the economy. Do u disagree with that logic and why?
Tennessee doesn’t have an income tax on your wages, so technically Dave is not paying an income tax either. 🙄
You are an idiot.
Loved it. Its It's probably worse here in Canada.
it surr is with our drama teacher.
If I agree should I send some money in? I make 50000 with 3 kids but I will collect a net gain of $4k from tax "refund".
What do you think about the large corporations such as GM and United and American Airlines not paying any tax this year? Or the the 300,000 religious congratulations that absolutely 0 tax as well? By the way, they 600 Billion dollars of property. Is it ok for them not to have skin in the game?
Congregations**
The NFL Is Exempt
I only pay property and sales tax. The government then proceeds to work with my employer to steal about twenty five percent of my income.
your information is wrong Dave. 55percent pay for the majority of taxes. many people do pay taxes and get money back because of the low income.
So they don't pay taxes...
No Dave no one should have less ownership over their labor, we traded war time taxes for full time taxes and have had full time war as well
I lost respect for Dave in this video.
Everyone should pay the SAME income tax percentage. Income tax bracket is STUPID. I don't care if you're poor, middle, or rich. Equal is FAIR
