"Don't beat out of anger" Holy Spirit told me the same thing when I asked why he wouldn't allow me to scold my kid bro. You are in the spirit sir.

Kulture shock, a topic suggestion - why do some believers post certain things like prayers and statements being directed to God on their WhatsApp status?
We then got to ask, does God view WhatsApp status?😁
Then it being personal, why do some of us bring it to social media?

26:30 My dad didn't beat us everyday, sometimes it was like once in 3 to 6 months but the punishments were scary: kneeling down in the dark living room while he's sleeping 😭. I'm still scared of him till date, anytime he gets angry I don't even want to be near him. But my mom hardly touched us, once in a while she'll do some light spanking and say some scalding words and these words I'd never forget. Ironically my dad was hardly home, leaves at first light and comes when we've slept already, my mom was stay at home till I was in SS1 or so. I've just realized that I wasn't so tough to raise, especially the beating part, that doesn't change me no matter the fear, my mother always used the scriptures to scold us, till date I can't rebel against them because "rebellion is like witchcraft" 😂😂😂. I've decided that each child should be dealt with according to their person. I'm a teacher, so I have kids already by proxy, I've realized that they've been beaten by other teachers a lot, and flogging even wastes the teaching time 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ I have to make them feel pain a different way, maybe low scores or kneeling down while others are learning. For me my dad's beating and punishments were traumatizing. Let's all try to incorporate positive reinforcement

    This topic captured my attention.
Remembering scenarios now, I've just been laughing. I can really relate with Mary about beating till your skin tears😅 I had one that prevented me from sitting for about two weeks.
I was a gentle girl in school so I didn't get much school lashes but was very stubborn at home.
Having grown up now, not yet a parent tho but have been privileged to handle children, I would most times not beat them while I'm still angry. There are times I just tell them to go first then calmly cane them later and of course I do a lot what Jeremiah said about having a discussion as to why they were flogged or about to be flogged with them and in the long run, they'll be like "I deserve it, just beat me."
That makes children see things from the adult's perspective. And most times helps them have a change of heart as regards the action that caused the discipline.
There are times when after I had calmed down, I really don't see a need to beat the child or maybe just get another means of discipline asides beating.
Getting to know each child is important, my big bro was the word type. Me, if I haven't been caned, I wouldn't behave. 😅
I've as well come to learn that discipline by beating has a stage limit. As children grow most especially teen age, I think there's the need to reduce the cane and have an understanding discussion instead.
Cos yeah, I said I wouldn't cane my children but I currently have some very stubborn children that I'll want to lash all my energy in but... I will hold my peace. So, I can't say if I won't cane them or not but I think I most likely will.
My mum would say: "Tí egba òbá yanjú òrò omo, oòwa gbàdúrà tìí" (If a child won't yield to disciplines take it up in prayers)
Well done Team Kulture Shock, the table fixers. 👍👍👍

But really some children don't need explanation.
Most times kids don't even need to be beaten imagine a child of 4 telling his mum "mummy we are going to your room and we'll spoil something" knowing fully well that he'll be beaten. As much as we discipline them we should pray for them

As young people who have children and aspire to have, despite how we must have grown up, it's important to learn positive and negative consequences that we can do in raising children. Every action should have a consequence, if a child does something good there should be a positive consequence, to encourage good behavior and when a child misbehaves the negative consequences should come in such as, withdrawal of something important to the children, isolation in a corner....etc.
It's important to ask God for guidance to parent each child right.

    Bros Jeremiah!
Ifa explain before beating him I'll not do the beating the way I want again 😂
The beating and fear lashed on us trimmed us to being better persons today... Our parent had little fear sending us out of the house to school and other places. The only thing they didn't do was showing us love and helping us build courage and strength
So this what I'll do better when I get to my stage of parenting..... I'll by God grace try to show my children love and build up their self esteem but beating... I won't let Dem go Scot free in terms of erring.

    Interesting conversation!!!
Discipline is the focus though, not beating. We should remove the mindset of beating from our hearts and ask HolySpirit to give us wisdom to discipline our children.
We can utilise the spiritual rod (the Word of God) so well, that we will rarely need the physical rod.

My mama was hard to deal with,we all was afraid of her,if she beat one of us the other of us will go hiding, one day from school I got home and I ask my mom a question because my class mate had ask me to pronounce something but I couldn't and they ask me to go ask my mother and I did when I got home,my mother gave me the beating of my life and for years I did not for anything or day ask her any question because I was afraid she will beat me again, not on till recently I thought let me test her if she have changed, and to God be the glory she had changed indeed and she was glad I ask her what I ask her after many years.
So I said to my self even if am going discipline my children that will be after question,if there warrant beating I will give to them and I have been doing that ,since I have younger siblings

The beating just made me more stubborn, they didn't know what to do with me in school.
