The Middle Rhine Valley is by far one of the most romantic and magical destinations we’ve ever visited, and we’d go back in a heartbeat if we could! Every now and then, I edit a vlog that bubbles feelings of pure joy and warmth in my soul, and this was one of them. That ongoing clip of us riding that mountainside toboggan had us both laughing until tears all over again. Hope you guys enjoyed this video as much as WE enjoyed both filming AND editing it! 🥰
Of course!! Thanks for asking! Here are all the places we visited in this video: 🦌 Step back into time and delight in a tasty lunch at Reichenstein Castle! 🍇 Explore the charming, picturesque streets of Bacharach. 🍷 Sip on a fine glass of wine at the hilltop wine bar of Günderodehaus. 🕯️ Stay the night in the historic and romantic setting of Schönburg Castle. ⛴️ Take the automobile ferry across the Rhine River to Kaub. 🏰 Visit medieval times at the Marksburg Castle. 🛷 Ride the exhilarating outdoor toboggan in Lorelei. 🍽 Indulge in a world-class, four-course meal at Schönburg Castle.
You missed Burg Rheinstein and Festung Ehrenbreitstein. But you reminded me, in what a beautiful country I live. Thanks for that and a lot of fun for your next Time!
I’ve been living in Germany for 3 years and I kinda haven’t managed to go to the Rhine valley although I’ve always wanted to go there. I would actually live such cute town there
I live not far away from the middle Rhine valley. It's very nice for a visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Especially getting to work etc. would suck. There is basically one road through the valley on each side of the Rhine and some tiny narrow roads winding up the hills every few villages to get out of the valley. For roughly 100 km, there is not a single bridge to cross the Rhine. You have to completely rely on the few ferries to cross the Rhine.
Hello you two, thank you for one of the best tourist documentaries about the Rhine Valley, even if it is of course a bit incomplete :-)) Two days are just too short for that! Your tour was probably almost two months ago and you were extremely lucky with the weather considering how bad it was here all year ;-)) All the best for your next videos, which are really very well made!
Your presentations are getting much better. You guys are loosening up and seem to be more spontaneous. It is getting to be like we are there with you rather than just watching a video. Wow! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
What a beautiful region of the country! Never been there but all the green foliage, massive river and quaint towns and villages whose architecture is so early European..makes me wish I had. Looking on a map, it surprised me how tiny this region actually is relative to the total land size of Germany. Just a suggestion tho your videos are superb..maybe add a map or two in the beginning as a reference point for listeners? Once again..great trip, great pics, great food, great story. Onward and upward you go! Happy Thanksgiving from Wisconsin 🖐🍗😊
Hey Chad and Claire! Good to see you again! The vibe between you guys is what works for me, You two are special. Great trip! I lived in Germany many years ago. Did you notice a fresh forest odor in Germany? or was it just me? Thanks for being here guys! Can't wait for the next one!!! PS. I remember drinking beer at room temp when I was there, Have you experienced that? Also, kids were during beer too. It was normal.
We love Germany so much. It’s one of the countries we can imagine ourselves living in. We love the nature, outdoors, food, and the people are so friendly. We didn’t notice any kids drinking lukewarm beer this trip, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for next time 😂
German here. Youngsters around here are allowed to purchase beer and wine from age 16 (hard liquor and sweet alcoholic mixed drinks are from age 18). With the consent of your parent or guardian, you can have beer or wine from age 14. That said, youngsters like to do adult things they are forbidden to do and the enforcement of those laws was handled very lax back in the day (up until the late 90ties). Store and bar owners hardly ever asked for ID when you tried to purchase beer as long as you looked as if you COULD be 16 years old. Controls have become a little more strict (with severe penalties for store owners if they are caught selling beer to kids) and youths drinking themselves into a stupor is perceived as more of a problem these days, so it's not quite as easy to get beer if you are below legal drinking age as it used to be, although it still certainly happens. As for beer temperature, the ideal drinking temperature for pilsner, wheat beer and ale is considered to be between 7 and 9 degrees Celsius, so definitely below room temperature (which doesn't mean that we wouldn't have a beer at room temperature at a festival, camping trip or party when properly refrigerated beer isn't available - warm beer is better than no beer ;-) ). Bock beer or stout you might have at 11 to 13 degrees. Drinking beer ice cold (close to freezing point) like many people prefer it in the U.S,. is considered a waste of a good beer in Germany, since it will numb the flavour. Although there are some cheap mass produced beers in Germany as well as in the U.S. where numbing the flavour may be a good thing. ;-)
@@chrisrudolf9839 Sounds right, I was in Germany in 1981, Out in the field in the US Army, We couldn't go to a store but children came around we offered them American chocolate if they went to a store for loads of beer and Knackwurst ., they asked for beers and we said OK, they came every day to the campsite, everyone happy.
Greetings from Koblenz Old Town ✌️ Nice that you enjoyed my area ❤ Don’t miss to travel along the Moselle! And btw… If you plan to go to Eltz castle you might be disappointed. It’s under renovation and has a huge scaffolding. At least it was so in summer. Maybe they finished the construction meanwhile. But according to the green trees I see in the video it’s not recorded recently.
Hi, a little disadvantage/drawbacks of these river towns are the roads and specialy the rails because the " valleys " are narrow and all has to fit in!
Guys, I love the Rhine part of Germany. Glad you had fun. Great the German National Tourism Board hosting you both. Germany is beautiful and the food is so good and all that great history. Stay safe and have fun. 🍷🍷🤠 Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🦃
Hi, you mentioned Loreley, do you know the tale about? And it s not a Gilmore Girl !😊 It was blond long haired girl above on the rock/in the hills combing/brushing her hair while singing, distracting rock climbers and captains/skippers causing sinking ships and maybe booty/loot for residents! Hi the picture you showed at the was a Loreley lookalike with the golden comb/brush who named the rock!
The reason why Most castles east of the Rhine were in much better shape is simple. Most castles between the French Border and the Rhine got destroyed in many wars in the 16th and 17th century fought in the western part of Germany. The french always tried to establish the Rhein as their eastern border. Even in and after 1944. So until Napoleon they never crossed the Rhine. An interesting ist that in those days stones were very expensive. So when an castle was seriously damaged and abandoned, the people in the villages around started use the stones for their own property.
I am not to sure if this is good or not. Honestly in this region most tourist are weekend tourist from the surrounding cities in Germany and the Benelux countries. Meant that it was always not that crowded and if this becomes more known i am afraid it might get overcrowded like most other tourist destinations in Europe.
Definitely something to note! Thanks for sharing. I’m sure local businesses would love the opportunity for more visitors, but I also understand that overtourism can cause issues for locals at the same time.
Hello, I can partially confirm that. We were in Rüdesheim just yesterday by chance, without having seen the video beforehand ;-)) and it was extremely crowded everywhere. This was probably also due to the partly sunny and very warm weather for the time of year. We limited ourselves to a walk around the Niederwald Monument (which Claire and Chad had ruled out) and later decided not to go out to eat in Rüdesheim because the well-known places were overcrowded. Real tourists ;-)) are naturally less common at this time of year.
Imagine the "sanitation" they would have had in the 12th century: Some wooden seat with a hole in the middle over a loooooong drop down into the ditch and a wooden tub that was filled from buckets. Soap that was boiled in the castle's kitchen from bones, animal fat and ashes.
your table manners reveal you to be Americans In a good restaurant you use a knife and fork. The knife pushes the food onto the fork. You don't cut everything up first and then poke around in the food. If you don't need your left hand for dessert or soup, keep it next to the plate and not under the table, and don't put your elbow on the table either. If you're eating several courses, use the cutlery from the outside in.

Hotel probably Hotel Schönbrunn
The castle at 15:00 is MARKSBURG. English Wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marksburg
Hey! Thanks for asking. I replied with a description of the full itinerary on another comment. Let me know if you have trouble finding it.

I’ve visited the Rhein River valley many times, it is really so beautiful. Your video was amazing!
Thank you so much!
so beautiful and fun and romantic !!
18:53 reminded me of the Jaws line, “We’re going to need a bigger boat!” IYKYK.
Another amazing video, the music…perfect! I laughed a lot with Claire on the tobogán 😂😂
Claire really lost it one the ride lolz. Most people would have edited that part out, but its awesome, and kinda funny you left it all in. Great vid.
Hahahaha it’s too genuine and had to be shared😂🤣
Greetings from Koblenz Old Town ✌️

As a child I had to learn the poem about the Bingen Mouse Tower by heart. The Middle Rhine Valley really starts from Bingen
I love this video! We're planning a trip there now.
Have fun! We loved it here and can’t wait to visit again!
Brilliant video, wonderful location, lovely couple👌
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for your kind words!

Happy thanksgiving! 🍁🦃🍽 Thanks for spending your time on us. Hope you have a great holiday week!
Hi, if your eating " good " or " better " the plates are big so the food looks even less!😊
Ich würde sagen ihr habt 10 % vom Rheintal gesehen. Grüße aus Koblenz am Rhein und Mosel 👋🏻😎
Love your videos! What time of year did you visit please?
A bit of a refresher in history and geography seems necessary, but otherwise, nice video.
Thanks for the note! Hard to always get the facts perfect on fast trips like this. Feel free to share any resources/facts you’d like others to know.
The last castle mentioned, the Marksburg in Braubach, is the only real medieval castle (restored) left on the Rhine.

What was the name of that beautiful castle you stayed at for two nights
Awesome video Legends 😁
Glad you enjoyed it
Are you back in the states now?
We are stateside for the next little bit before we head back to Asia for our Taiwan Group trip in December!
Oh my god!!!! 😲🤔I really don`t want to know how much this hotel room(s!!!!) in the tower cost! (Although I WANT to know it)! 😆😅

I hate that cap so much😖
