    Hi gav, if you read about the battle and study the deployment, the 95th were part of the centre left in line (3 Companys), two other companies were under further control around the farm buildings.

    Good video and convo while I build some Victrix Guard Lancers. I have 2 starter sets in the post ,in a row boat for the Colonies, so I presume your next vid will be seen before they ship here . I will be looking for an answer to the Cavalry dont form up well using the generic bases. I want to change that. And I like the lighter colours for 13.5mm across the table 3metres away I want to pick out what they are quickly. Probably will need some Regt/Brigade Markers to go with them for the gaming table

    • @gavinbooth
      @gavinbooth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can understand why they went with generic bases but for those who want to go another way its not a hard fix . Good luck with the project marra .Regards Gav.

    I think you've done a really excellent job on these, G... With tiny figures like these, it can be tough to get the balance just right. As it is, you've captured a kind of 'campaign' look most perfectly. You've the colour balance exactly right too, PERHAPS brighter tones than are strictly accurate, (as in a brighter green on the 95th rather than the almost black 'Rifle Green' ) but again, in this scale and with the minis represented as 'blocks' of line, the overall effect is perfectly in scale. (On the 95th's black-leather furniture, (???) I'd NEVER have thought to highlight 'shiny-black-leather' with a TURQUOISE but it gives that representation of reflective 'shine' in this scale! I've made a note of that! I'll often highlight black with blue HOWEVER the turquoise seems to give a 'shinier' look!!! Might not work on 'cloth' of course but on the straps etc it really looks good...)
    Also impressive, I think, is the VERY DETAILED IF MINIMAL 'picking out' of the lace across the uniforms of the Guards. (Very Pointy Brush Needed There, I'll bet!!!) Again, you've managed to put in JUST ENOUGH detail to suggest the lace, without 'muddying' the whole thing up. Sometimes 'less-is-more' and you've got the balance right again. Especially in this scale, (and 15mm/20mm) THE HUMAN EYE can be 'tricked' into seeing what it expects to see!!! An EXPERIENCED painter (such as your fine self) eventually INSTINCTIVELY KNOWS just how much detail to highlight... (You CANNOT paint these little marras like 28's and IF YOU TRY you'll end up with a mess! And BLIND!!!)
    Something else I noticed was that the FACES (not AS IMPORTANT in this scale but STILL...) are EACH DONE individually. (By which I mean there are slight differences to each tiny face...) I've seen these minis done in a more FORMULAIC way where each face looks kinda the same, (AND THAT CAN LOOK GOOD!) but YOUR ONES look like tiny individuals!!! (Again, that 'campaign' look and feel...) It's that 'IMPRESSIONISTIC' kind of detailing that, (perhaps by happy accident, not taking away from your skill IN THE SLIGHTEST) makes each face unique! (One or two look positively grumpy!!!)
    I'm EXCLUSIVELY a 28mm painter, although I keep an interested eye on other scales as we hobby painters tend to do. The OTHER EXAMPLES of these 'EPIC SCALE' minis I've seen TO ME, often seem to have a 'Toy Soldier' look, (and that CAN WORK of course...) Personally, I prefer the kind of 'war weary', 'campaign' look you've produced here. Absolutely TOP QUALITY work from you.
    xx SF

      Thanks Steve every thing we paint is all about personnel taste i like adapting how i paint to either the scale , the period or just the whim of trying a different method . It all helps develop your painting . But at the end of the day its about feeling good with the end result . Many thanks for the kind words , paint on my marra . Regards Gav.

      The painters expertise shows in the casual way the the figures appear to be painted but when I’ve tried it with some Hinchliffe Confederates, mixing hats, jackets, trousers, hair colour and blanket rolls, after basing them in 3’s and Fours with a 2 and a 1 to allow for casualties. Someone mentioned that each base of 4 was exactly the same. It was every other black slouch hat and grey jacket. But more variety in trousers. I’m just better at not painting casual😕

    Great looking figures, beautifully painted. Still undecided about this scale I have armies in 6mm, 10mm & 15mm. Detail looks good but not sure if launching into another scale, might be persuaded if Warlord had created for earlier Napoleonic campaigns.

    • @gavinbooth
      @gavinbooth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean Ian i have 6mm and 10mm in my collection and they look to want to make this their scale . I think they may be bringing out early 1700's (love to paint those) and ancients too . Regards Gav.

  • @leonleese4919
    @leonleese4919 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Problem I have is that a battalion is 5 or more bases so that is 100 figures per battalion so if 1 figure is = to 5 men your battalion is 500 men strong.
