Thank you and your dad for this trip thru LA (lower Astoria ) I went to Rainey Park as a kid with my family, then with friends to play sports, and hang out when older and with my girlfriend who is my wife now. We all used to ride our bikes thru Roosevelt Island and remember the buildings your dad is talking about . When first getting our cars would drive there as well .
I remember 14 st, I grew up in the projects not far from there and attended IS126 back in the 80's. Lots of condos there now and Roosevelt island was my escape every weekend

The tram over from Manhattan is incredible and looks well utilized. So special to hear your Dad's take on things and insight.
You might know this story, but if you walk to the end of the island, there's a statue of a woman, who pretended she was crazy, but she was a reporter and wanted to do a news story on patients who were mistreated in the psychiatric hospitals on the island, and she risked being put away herself just to get a story! She helped change the abuse that was going on. She was a hero.

I think to put what I meant in a different way: His dad sounds like he was born and raised in New York for generations - I can't even tell any ethnicity, it's just a general NY accent to my outsider ears. AK to me sounds like any Asian American guy who spent his childhood in NY sure, but has that Asian lilt that made me initially think he was like me (one of those kids that had immigrant parents and therefore had a somewhat Asian-y accent from growing up speaking in a somewhat compromise). Funny story: I was taking the tram one night, living in a condo on the island, and as I approached 59th Street and 2nd Avenue, a cop car was following a car and the guy in front (they were about to cross the 59th Street Bridge), in the passenger seat, was shooting at the cop car, saw me, and fired 2 bullets. LOL. I ducked and layed down on the ground. What can you do? You never forget when someone fires a gun at you! LOL. I went home, taking the tram and got over to island and for days I turned on the news, bought all the newspapers and never was a story printed about it! You would think if there was a shoot-out going through Manhattan it would be a big news story! Nothing! Ever!
I bet your dad will help you drive there and with Roosevelt Island Long Island City AK, that's dominating here!😍🤩🥰 I think the only way to get there is to ride the Roosevelt Island Tram or the Ed Koch Queensborough Bridge.😏😊😇 It'll be a way to get to Roosevelt Island too!😊😎🤭 I hope you and your dad will love it here and thanks for sharing that enjoying drive as glorious with your dad Action Kid!😌🤗🥹

I really enjoyed seeing this because I don't ever remember seeing it before. Your dad had a lot of courage to ride his bike down that, no wonder he crashed. lol I love his fun stories:-) Interesting facts about the Island, mental cases and the morgue. It sounds like a desirable place to live. lol Oh, and then you have the Smallpox Memorial Hospital. What an inviting place! lol What a beautiful drive and I love the water. I'm on my way to an appointment, I'll finish this video when I return. So far the first ten minutes have been a hoot. lol

AKs YT friend Walk Ride Fly did a vid along Arthur Ave . AK did one with Rich Mancuso , the NYC sportswriter and a native of the area several years ago . Rob stopped by the church that Mr. Mancuso grew in and where his parents had there homegoing services . I remember Mr. Mancuso being very moved entering that church . Rob viewers were moved by that portion of the vid
You know who lived on this island? Grandpa Muenster from the Muensters! He was always nice and said hello, but he looked just like he did on the Muensters, minus the make-up. You kind of felt, well, he didn't want to put the make-up on today, but looked exactly the same and it was, well, funny seeing him after watching the show as a kid.
