Harris & Lewis Landscape Photography - Simply Beaches

  • In this video, I capture Landscape photography images at Harris & Lewis over a 3-day period.
    I created this film from the 28th to the 30th of April at various locations on the Island.
    The conditions were incredible on two out of the three days but even during the worst day, I still managed to create a few decent images, I think!
    Fancy joining me in November or next year?

    If you watch the video to the end, you'll also notice that I confess to theft. Yep, I stole something very valuable and I'm very proud of it. It's really not a stupid click-bait statement but I'll disclose what I pilfered next week.
    Feel free to watch and leave a comment.
    Gary

    This is a masterclass in under 20 minutes on how to make impossible shots make possible with your techniques, passion, and and eye for a Photograph. Your choice of background music is also soothing that suited well with the scenery. I can watch video like these for hours. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

    Hi Gary,
    As another has said, nice timing. I’m an Aussie on The Wallaby in Europe/UK for 8 weeks. Currently in Dresden to photograph my favourite building anywhere - the magnificent Frauenkirche. But my real goal is Lochinver for a couple of days to do exactly what you have just shown us. And that will be a couple of weeks before I head home. Lucky I’m in Dresden as I should be able to pick up a couple of NDs which, with my minimalist packing, I left at home. Thanks for some inspiration I just loved your passion on this little shoot. I spent 3 years on exchange at Kinloss with the RAF and I feel exactly as you do about the West Coast and that is why I keep being drawn back.
    Cheers

    Loved this and have to agree with your statement! I'd actually go a step further and say a competent photographer should be able to photograph most subjects and be able to work out framing and a pleasing composition! Photographing different subjects broadens one's knowledge and just adds to one's skillset, plus it keeps things fresh and fun! Stunning work Gary as always! Chers.

    I was noticing in your drone footage above the shallow waves at the beach edge- there were very cool kelp floating in the shallow waves that would make some terrific abstract shots. Ever take stills using your drone?

    I think the location stole your heart - Been to Skye several times, but always banging on about Lewis & Harris, I'm not wrong - Some epic photography PS: Can you spare a few hours on your route back to capture the lochan just south of Rannock Moor (right of the A82) the one with the long winded name?

    Thanks Gary great video, as a beginner may I ask, when would you use a 6 stop over a 10 stop? Any advice would be very welcome. Oh and ive added a sub, keep up the great work, all the videos Ive watched have been very well explained.

    • @GaryGough
      @GaryGough  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You use a 6-stop over a 10-stop when you want to extend the length of time the shutter remains open but not quite as long. A 6-stop filter is great for extending your shutter speed when photographing waterfalls for instance.

    I was curious what the Tidal bell was for and i found this information ..Time and Tide Bell is an art project made up of bells, designed by UK sculptor Marcus Vergette and Australian bell designer Neil McLachlan,[1] installed at coastal locations in the UK. The first one was placed at Appledore, Devon, in 2009 and the seventh at Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire in June 2019. As of 2021 at least six further bells are planned,[2] and funding obtained from the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2018 will allow for up to sixteen bells in all to be installed.[3]
    Each bell rings around high tide; the bells provide a reminder that rising sea levels caused by climate change will make the pattern of their ringing change. There is every chance that some of the bells will have to be relocated in the twenty-first century.

    8min 30sec, still can't believe the 5dmk4 has no flippy screen when my little 200d does. But what's good is they must be a great camera if you haven't made the jump to mirrorless, I was looking at the 5dmk4 but it's that no flippy screen that's turning me towards the 6dmk2 instead.

    • @GaryGough
      @GaryGough  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Canon Pro Cameras don't have flippy screens. Or they didn't until mirrorless came along. When a mirrorless camera captures better pictures than my mirrored cameras, I'll make the change.
