This is, honestly, about the fourth time I'm back to watch this series. Be warned new viewers! This is not 80s action heist-movie Shadowrun! This is... situational comedy -slash- political drama anime Shadowrun, occasionally (very occasionally!) broken up by gunfights and heists - populated by some of the most well realised and freakin hilarious characters in Rollplay. Plus it actually has a satisfying and fitting show finale! Once you have accepted this you will fly with this series on neon wings - please enjoy.
"Your characters have to be cool but you don't have to be." Best way to summarize every role playing person ever, but on the flip side everyone that role plays is awesome. Love all you nerds
Going through this series once again. The first time I listened to this, I HATED Kaitlyn's vacant, ditzy pop star persona, but by the end of the Tokyo arc, she was my favorite character. She sticks to her motivation even when it's a bad idea and it causes problems. She picked an idea she liked and laid into it 100%. I wish I could do half as good in my games as she did here. Looking back, I don't know why I ever felt differently.
Love Shadowrun - got into it when 1st Ed was first released - actually picked up an advertising brochure from FASA for it before the fact - loved the picture of Dodger, Dancer and Sally Tsung on the cover ... currently re-reading the novels for the umpteenth time ... Great stuff!
OMFG I have been so stoked for this show!! Adam (or Stephen I guess too) if for some reason you are reading this, I just started a dungeon world campaign as the GM after following some of your advice from "being everything else." My friends have been really enjoying the game! Keep the content coming JP! Keep up the awesomeness cast!
Now THIS is the stream I've been looking for, and 1e no less. Working on my first 1e game to GM. Never GM'ed a game before in my life, but I come from years of theater, improv, and sketch/script/playwriting. I also write a ton of fiction. The story part i got no problem with. (And yes, it's taking me months to figure out the rules, settings, backstory, characters, etc.) Also reading a couple of the novels, and Neuromancer. The more TableTop stuff I watch, the more I get excited for it. Looking forward to watching this with a notepad close by. The best part is that your episodes aren't 4 hours long!
Awesome job guys. Way to rock the Neuromancer right out out of the gate! If we all have to drink Gibsons every time there is a cameo by Sally Shears (or her aliases), I'll need to hit the grocery for a jar of pickled mini onions. Very fun!! Thanks all!
Adam is the DM? HELL YEAH, THIS WILL BE GOOD. Steven's a good DM too, don't take that the wrong way. But I think Adam's style of GMing will really lend itself to this game.
Sitromxe Aka koibu0 aka dm for sollum he is quite good. though personally of the dnd stuff he is in i much prefer his own channel than sollum. (its at koibu0 at twitch and neal erikson at YT check it out if you want)
Yay shadowrun! Now when im finally up to speed with Swan Song, I can follow this while waiting for the next episode! miss Dexbonus reaction to the "dumpshock" was so great! Muffled supressed laughattack right there!
Right. I'm speaking from 06/07/2018 (date the proper way of doing it day/month/year) I'm about to sit down and write my MA playwriting masters. I work best with lots of sound so here goes. I'm ganna binge listen to all of mirrorshades in less than 6 weeks. I'll only listen while working. We'll see how this goes. Wish me luck. I'll see you at the end (and yes, I've watched the series before...when it aired.)
33:55 is the best part, with Breakdown observing the perfect embodiment of futility. I get the feeling that he's taken some sort of psychotropics or something. Great job, Dodger, on giving him so much character with just one sentence. Also a fan of DJ Wheat's b0nb0n - or rather, the voice that he does for her. It reminds me a bit of Woody Allen. Looking forward to the next part of this and future episodes!
This stream was so amazing! I mean i remember most of it... What am i saying i got so hyped for this stream I was drunk off my ass while watching it and now i'm back to rewatch the entire thing xD
Holy crap, how did I not know this was happening for 23 weeks. I love Shadowrun. I love Dodger. How did this get under my radar. D= This is gonna take forever to catch up on uuuugh.
I have a buddy who still has the original shadow run book; I would describe that version of shadow run as a unique but eclectic theme of 1980s fashion, high fantasy and cyberpunk set in a (now antiquated) dystopian and post-apocalyptic future. mechanically it differs from a lot of other systems which can be disorientating, especially to someone who has never played a traditional R.P.G.
If faced with this start by the GM, I would go with this cunning plan: Our team has planned ahead for a whole week and trained every day to jump with gliders from the top of a skyscraper owned by some low-tier corporation. We paid someone on the building security staff to let us use the roof. So everyone has brought a glider-parachute on their back. Crusher has a really big one to bear the weight of his bulk. Nightsass has a similar one to carry her weight in addition to the scientist. Then we all jump out a window and land several blocks away. Check mate!
Adam Koebel While I'm at it, might I suggest taking advantage of the exploding dice function in Roll20? It will help you simplify rolls with a TN greater than 6. This is how: For rolling 5 dice against TN 8, use "/roll {5d6!!}>8" I'm just trying to be helpful in making your sessions run smoothly by simplifying the dice rolling, because I'm really enjoying this look at 1st edition. Forgive me for being pushy, but allow me to give you a useful macro: "/r {?{Dice Pool|1}d6!!}>?{TN|4}" This macro, when activated, will ask your players what their dice pool is (how many dice to roll), and then ask them what the TN is. The macro will then make the appropriate roll. This works for any dice pool and any TN. I've set the default dice pool at 1 and the default TN at 4. If you make this macro available to your players, it will make your next session much smoother because there will be no worrying about maths. Because maths is hard yo!
Aw, damn. I thought they were going to do 5th. I was hoping someone would roll a Gunslinger Adept. Also, that rip from Neuromancer at the beginning. Good on you, Adam.
Was too damn tired to watch it live and I see... as always with that superb crew, I missed a lot of awesome roleplaying :D Shadowrun will be a good stuff, I know it :) Hopefully it will live a long time.
As someone who hasn't watched one of these in a kong fucking time. Wheats gotte a lot better, probably because he knows the subject matter, and as soon as he spoke as his character I fell in love. I love Shadowrun.
the first second i saw the cast is burst out in laughter like i havent in a long time... this is gonna be great :D also Adam looks like a member from ZZ Top
+TheKapitan98 It took me like half a minute and I was like.. damn I know there is something but I cant really remember aaaand then it got to me... oh fuck! :D
Doger is back with another crazy character? - NICE Adam is the DM/Architect of another sci-fi-ish rollplay? - NICE JP takes the front-line and kait has sweet akimbo AK's and wheat rounds the party of with experience... sounds like a very good combination!
I just binged on the entriety of mirrorshades in a couple of days. Was sad it ended, and after falling into post-binge existential crisis for a day, im back to relive some of the glorious moments in this series ; - ;
JP plays a literal troll. Rollplay has reached its Apogee! But seriously, I'm SO glad you guys decided to do an SR rollplay. Sad nobody took rigger, but understandable. And 3 newbs makes it even better! Feel like the start was a bit harsh for a bunch of newbs though. Can't wait to see if Adam can outdo Swansong with this!
It's weird, because "Rigger" isn't really an archetype until slightly later than the corebook. The VCR is there but it's a sort of side-piece for a decker or sammy who might also want to drive.
Ah, interesting. I always did feel like riggers were the bards of SR, I guess being an afterthought kind of explains that. I started with the 2ed, where rigger was a core archetype iirc. Also I don't think 2ed had the 'automatic successes' from armor at all. Seems way OP, or maybe it's just JP's build. It'll be interesting to see them in situations without the autocannon.
I'm so mad that I forgot this was airing today, I caught the very end :C Now I'm part of the youtube crowd that gets wrecked by cliffhangers between breaks
Was it really the best idea to toss them into a middle of an action-y scenario right from the start? Seems like they had a super slow time getting started... And telling them it was gonna go bad right from the start seems a little lame. :( Just my two cents though.
I actually like to begin with a "boom", as Adam did in this example. A quick rule rundown and stuff like that beforehand would have been good though, you are absolutely right. I started my players off in a police chase, which they really liked, (asking them before hand what went wrong and what they even did that led to this chase), but they already knew a bit of the system. Problem is that except for Wheat they knew nothing about the universe and the rules. But I'm sure there will be much more action that works out better in later episodes ;)
Yep, they skipped explaining the rules (which usually prevents me from enjoying the first episode), also I don't really like plot hooks that put me into a scripted situation at the start of a campaign...
***** chargen and lengthy rules discussion at the start of a show is such a mood killer. we tried to avoid that just by jumping in and working our way out!
Adam Koebel I think I was just hoping for more prompts to get the ball rolling... xD Not necessarily a bunch of rules jargon at the start of a show. I'm still very interested and am still going to watch, this is just a very minor grumble. :)
Wait what the target number is the number you need on the dice to get a success? So most of the difficulty in the game is in target numbers or opposed rolls I guess? It's an interesting mechanics I thought Shadowrun would be slow to watch but Roll20 makes it faster than I thought. I might run a one shot of Shadowrun (that could turn into a campaign) for people online. We'll see.
The system in SR is super weird in places. Like when you have to roll opposed with someone, it's like; Skill vs. TN and Skill vs. TN, compare successes and the highest successes wins and so you're remembering four different variables and where those TNs come from. You can see it later in the car crash section, where I have to figure out some weird math. It's neat, and it works, it's just odd as hell. I'm going to be modifying and streamlining a bit as we go.
Adam Koebel Later editions streamlined the math but made the setting really challenging for beginners. I understand your choice of 1st edition better now. The setting is easier to follow when you don't have to think about Augmented Reality or getting screwed up because you don't have the proper RFID tags on your clothes. Overall great show yesterday. GMing in front of 10k viewers, you're fearless.
i'm confused why breakdown was " fatigued" by the run down the stairs despite succeeding the body check. yeah she/he had only 1 point on body, but the roll was a success. if it was gonna be an automatic failure then why even have breakdown roll the die in the first place? or am I missing something?
Awwhhh SHIT Adam i was not aware you are co founder of dungeon world! Please JP let him host at least one in the near future. love the dungeon world series you put on the tubes !
This is, honestly, about the fourth time I'm back to watch this series. Be warned new viewers! This is not 80s action heist-movie Shadowrun! "Medics are only useful when things are going really bad"
That's the secret. In shadowrun, things are always really bad
Always have to start with the "the sky is the color of a TV tuned to a dead channel" line.
So you mean a bright blue clear sunny day?
Melggart yeah like, neon blue with a big NO SIGNAL in the corner. Weird.
Adam Koebel If I saw that I'd be like, "it's not like I'm using, it's like my body has developed this massive drug deficiency."
Evert S. that sounds like a Sprawl joke, to me.
did I mention I have a sprawl voice?
Man... time flies. I loved this series soooo much.
Dodger's reaction to the phrase "Dump Shock" absolutely made my day, haha.
I miss this
OMFG I have been so stoked for this show!!

Thanks! That's awesome!
Now THIS is the stream I've been looking for, and 1e no less.

Magic and tech really go great together in this game and I like how they mix that with a dark setting with orks, trolls, elves and dwarves
How did I not find this earlier? This is amazing! Love this channel, love this series!
I love how Kaityln cosplays every episode that is dedication.
I love shadowrun so I am happy to see it. Good job 👍
Just came here from watching all the West Marches episodes to see more Dodger. Seeing the first frame of this, I'm ready!
Awesome job guys. Way to rock the Neuromancer right out out of the gate! If we all have to drink Gibsons every time there is a cameo by Sally Shears (or her aliases), I'll need to hit the grocery for a jar of pickled mini onions. Very fun!! Thanks all!
When JP said "Don't sell yourself short." to Dodger I chortled... a bit. D:
I know this is 3 years old, but I just found it, and had to say: that intro line from the Neuromancer just make my day. [thumbs up]
Adam is the DM? HELL YEAH, THIS WILL BE GOOD.
Steven's a good DM too, don't take that the wrong way. But I think Adam's style of GMing will really lend itself to this game.
Neal?
daniel wirenfeldt
Who?
daniel wirenfeldt Neal takes the game way to seriously, where as Steven and Adam will throw you a bone if you wanna do something epic or silly
jacob ratliff i agree ish. i just was a litlle surprised he wasnt mentioned, thats all.
Sitromxe Aka koibu0 aka dm for sollum he is quite good. though personally of the dnd stuff he is in i much prefer his own channel than sollum. (its at koibu0 at twitch and neal erikson at YT check it out if you want)
Oh this is going to be fun. I knew exactly what Dodger was thinking the second she started giggling about 'dump shock'. xD
Having played and loved Shadowrun Dragonfall, I'm truly excited to see how this campaign will turn out So far so good !
My gods, starting out with a Neuromancer reference. This is bound to be great!
Yay shadowrun! Now when im finally up to speed with Swan Song, I can follow this while waiting for the next episode!
miss Dexbonus reaction to the "dumpshock" was so great! Muffled supressed laughattack right there!

Man, I love re-watching this series while waiting for new parts. #TeamBreakdown
I don't know why but Wheat's "We're so fucked" sent my sides into orbit.
"the color of the sky is the color of a tv tuned to a dead channel." that is an awesome opening reference, I love neuromancer.
I can imagine JP as a 9 feet tall troll with out of control body, bionic arms and aviator shades giving a thumbs up. It's perfect!
"Soylent Osiris is actually human."
Okay, I was never really enthused by Kaitlyn previously, but she just won Shadowrun
The song "Prologue" from The Wolf Among Us (Telltale video game) fits Shadowrun so much. Just leave it in the background if you doubt.
Damn I miss seeing this every week. Time to rewatch all 135-ish hours.
This stream was so amazing! I mean i remember most of it... What am i saying i got so hyped for this stream I was drunk off my ass while watching it and now i'm back to rewatch the entire thing xD
Just came from Swansong, see Adam in shades, SO EXCITED AHHHH
DJWheats sunglasses xD my sides XD I'm one secound in and I'm already laughing, same as the Maid RPG. Keep up the awesomesauce!
Holy crap, how did I not know this was happening for 23 weeks. I love Shadowrun. I love Dodger. How did this get under my radar. D=
This is gonna take forever to catch up on uuuugh.
+MouseAndShiraz Dont worry just praise the SUN!!!
+Kill Dill And then watch undertale and cry
+MouseAndShiraz I've just discovered this......I must marathon!
+MouseAndShiraz Content for Days!
It feels like I've been waiting ages for them to do Shadowrun :)
JP: "These are prescription, so they're stayin' on all night."
lol how cute.
I'm glad Dodger was on the same page as me when Adam said "Dump Shock".
Feeling bad? Mirrorshades rewatch. Listening to them describe their characters for the first time is the best.
Dungeon world is a great game btw love some of the ideas you put in their!
Just started watching, seen the shades, this is gonna be awesome :)
Fairly literal response to a new campaign
I like how they started straight into action. I would appreciate that from my DM
If faced with this start by the GM, I would go with this cunning plan:

I'd allow it.
Adam Koebel when Adam says yes to what you wanted to do in a comment, it's kinda like saying matrix God approves of your life choices
Adam Koebel BTW, the "s" in your macro in Roll20 is unnecessary.
Axel Mellgren thanks!
Adam Koebel While I'm at it, might I suggest taking advantage of the exploding dice function in Roll20? It will help you simplify rolls with a TN greater than 6. This is how:

Wow, I'd just gotten into playing Shadowrun: Dragonfall so this is awesome! :O
Same!!!
Yup, I've already backed it :3
I love that dodger is playing more and more rolle play.
Hahahaha Wheat's Jewish grandmother voice for Bonbon is incredible. I can't wait to see more of this. I love Shadowrun.
As someone who hasn't watched one of these in a kong fucking time. Wheats gotte a lot better, probably because he knows the subject matter, and as soon as he spoke as his character I fell in love.
I love Shadowrun.

Shadowrun is soooo much fun and also the shades are awesome ^^
*Opens youtube video*
*Sees that this show has Wheat, Kaitlyn, Dodger and Adam*
*Sees them all wearing sunglasses*
I am so fucking in! :D #hype
"The sky was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel." Like bright blue? They should have had a picnic!
I just binged on the entriety of mirrorshades in a couple of days. Was sad it ended, and after falling into post-binge existential crisis for a day, im back to relive some of the glorious moments in this series ; - ;

Am I the only one who had to resist the urge to whip out the shades while watching this? xD
Wheat's reaction to the description of "Breakdown" was totally justified.
OMG its Dexbonus I had just watched a video of hers yesterday. she seems super chill. looking forward to this now even more.
You know what I'd love to see? RollPlay Vampire The Masquerade.
Inb4 wheat mixes up the accents of BonBon and Piani.
oh god i'm watching for it too...
Carl Bernroth *before watching* wait he's not Irish for once?
I always imagined Dump Shock to be kinda like Xanax and Whisky, only not as fun.
Watching Breakdown go from indifferent to cynical and sarcastic is my favorite thing about this show, it's so good.
Shadow Run is a great universe son I am excite.
Yet another spot-on accent from Wheat! :)
Dump Shock: A blue screen of death while you're plugged into the computer.
I'm so mad that I forgot this was airing today, I caught the very end :C
Now I'm part of the youtube crowd that gets wrecked by cliffhangers between breaks
Dodger had the same reaction I did when I heard "dumpshock"

I love the reference to TB that dodger makes.
Adam, your beard is FANTASTIC.
Go on sir.
That overlay looks soooo rad :p
Soylent Osiris is great- Not only is it reference to Steven, but it is also a great reference to the story of Osiris the god who was cut to pieces.
Aww... I was expecting it to start in the classic Stuffer Shack.
Gotta love Shadowrun.
I love that djwheat is constantly vaping like a boss. whatup vape brotha!
Soylent Osiris rofl. Kaitlyn keep making jokes of that quality and I will become a fan of yours.
adam, what's the rough dollar or pound equivelent of new yen? also did wheat have 500 to spend on this bribe? THE QUESTIONS.
Wait what the target number is the number you need on the dice to get a success? So most of the difficulty in the game is in target numbers or opposed rolls I guess? It's an interesting mechanics

Shadow run has to be about one of my most favorite RPGs behind dragon age
Finaly i can experience shadowrun. :)
Old VODs got deleted (we've been playing for about a year, weekly) but you can check out www.twitch.tv/broporators/profile/past_broadcasts
ZaxProxy did you know that advertising your channel on the back of another is extremely fucking rude and makes your look like a hack?
wasn't really paying attention, then hear doogers voice, FELOIEHJIUFOBEFOIHEUGF DOOOGER! XD
Shoot straight, converse ammo Night Sass, and never ever make a deal with a dragon.
didnt recognize Dodger with the shades till i saw the fox in the background
Another RP show on this channel i will get addicted to
the IcQ reference was key. Good drekk.
The skinny elf should just ride the Troll. :D
Not sure if Dragon Age reference... -_-
Clicked and was like
"Is that Dodger?"...
"Oh shit!"
1E? Aw... I was hoping for some 5E in order to get some guidance for a campaign I am planning to start
I have been waiting for this
th-cam.com/video/9mNaO7FGaDY/w-d-xo.html

+LadyGenevieve Long story short, the more successes the better. She did succeed, but she could have succeeded better and not have been winded.
As someone who started GMing a 5E SR game, with a bunch of freinds who never played any tabletop RPG before, I approve of the use of 1E.
Awwhhh SHIT Adam i was not aware you are co founder of dungeon world! Please JP let him host at least one in the near future. love the dungeon world series you put on the tubes !
I've just been advised to come to this site.. What am I watching? What should I be doing?
just let it happen.
