No memes here, I really respect Atrioc. He's very well studied and never provides a take without some researched justification. As a bit of a doomer, I really appreciate the grounding mindset of "Trump's won, all we can do is watch and track what works and doesn't, then bring that to future elections."
Real, I can’t be asked to deal with politics and the Big A difference is just so easy to agree with, there’s not really a flaw in the logic of “well, guess we’ll watch the world burn, not really much you can do about it”
You should add the caveat that if he's talking about another country it's a 50/50 whether he has a well-researched justification or he's just spouting whatever comes to mind without knowing anything about the situation.
He's about as well studied as any other well educated, media literate, politically and economically invested middle aged dude. Difference is he's good at communicating his views and what he learns. He's very fallible and it's always best to read the news every day and form your own opinions before going to him for a second opinion.

I think people over blow how bad things will be. No western government has operated like Trump claims his will for at least 80 years. High tariffs with low taxes and a smaller labor pool after deportations can definitely be a recipe for economic success. People seem to equate lowest possible prices with best possible economy. But higher prices coupled with higher take home earnings amounts to a similar outcome. With the benefit of uplifting the American working class instead of importing or off shoring slave adjacent laborers.
I don't comment much on videos; however, I found this worth saying. After watching Atrioc for some time now, I believe he is, in my opinion, one of the best people to watch in the context of political views, especially if you disagree with him. It’s good to listen to people you don’t agree with, but finding that person is very difficult. If you disagree too much or have an entirely opposite point of view, people will instinctively disagree with you; no matter what you say, the conversation between extremes is, normally, rooted in distrust. But when you can see that someone’s opinions are rooted in reason and honest research, it can bridge the gap between two opposing sides and help them understand each other, even if just a little... This is a rare and valuable quality to find on the internet, especially today. Of course, this only can happen if the person watching is also coming from a place of reason and calm, being this, sometimes, equally hard to find. Either way, I am glad that more people are finding his content. With all of that said, thanks for the videos and comments, Atrioc!
so well said, feel same way. he does this thing where he explaining news/issue from both sides best he can, while declaring his bias (if he has one on subject), while also not letting said bias effect the information he is telling us WHILE making you want to laugh during It. It truly is an insane talent I think is really underappreciated
Atrioc dialed back his view on Trump only now after he won. This video is tame, but in his prior videos you could clearly see his bias to harris, he never criticized her before. He clearly showed that he disliked Trump to a point where I started to wonder if he can distinguish for himself whats being said about Trump is real or not, instead of listening to the mainstream media.
The main takeaway from this election is that the democrats are fucked. The left don't really like to support them for the horror they've done to Palestine and the Right are enthralled by their lord and savior, and it's not Jesus. And that splintering makes it harder for them to win anything in anyway considered to be a comfortable win. The problem is education and whoooo boy that is not an easy solve. Because if they educate people enough, they go from, Right to liberal, and Liberal to full on leftist. Which is bad for them as most Americans who tend to speak out are pure on socialists who want a better life for the working class. So neither sides want that. The Republicans want to keep them uneducated enough to manipulate them via religion and the Democrats want them to be educated but uneducated enough that they can get away with bombing the Middle East for oil, and make people forget by doing something inclusive. One gets manipulated by religion, the other by ego. And hey what is that? That sounds like the medieval times. Where the peasants are manipulated by religion and the nobles and scholars are manipulated by their ego. One screams Jesus even though they don't really believe in it. And the other screams, "Ya'll are so kind and so smart." Even though they don't believe in it. And that creates a fucked up system. Either way, both sides still manipulate their people, still destroys and maim people who aren't theirs, and it leaves a desolate wasteland either way. The only difference is one likes gay people and the other one, doesn't. Sorry for the million word essay. Also Side note: Isn't it fucked up that the Democratic party is mostly supported by the elites while the Republican party is mostly supported by the working class?
I'm glad Atrioc is clipping Trump promises. I've been trying to go back myself and take a record of every promise he made because I want him to be held accountable for them. I know the common cope is going to be "well of course he couldn't do it, no one could have" but if you run on promises, you ought to be held to them.
@@10thletter40 Nah, let's. Calling politicians out on bullshit promises is important to political discourse, Democrat or Republican; they shouldn't make campaign promises they know they can't or (even worse) won't keep. It's easy for people to listen to a politician making baseless promises and forget how unlikely it is for them to actually do what they say. Scrutinize them on it, every single one. Biden deserves the criticisms he gets for not holding up his promises and I expect we absolutely should point out every single promise Trump made when he fails to uphold them too.
Your stance and optimism is definitely solid on economic policy. I just feel like a lot of the fear comes from his stances on non-economic policy. Specifically around things like abortion rights and Obergefell.
Ike? Its insane how he's just brushing over all that I know econ is his whole thing but this is very important and will probably effect the country for years to come.
His economic policy will be terrible for the US and its allies aswell, but youre right. His non economic policies are what is truly terrifying and Atrioc does not do a very good job making that clear to his audience.
yup. And the result was that we had nearly zero iflation for 20-30 years. There's 3 ways ways to ruin an economy. not just by a depression, but as a stagnant one that no one wants to invest in. The least bad of the 3 IMO, but it's probably the one the rich hates the most. Of course the third one is what we're going through, this "dual economy" where one part is good (assets) and the other trash (labor market). If you didn't get yours, you're screwed. But others are rich.
@@kukuc96 easy to fix if you have people who want to invest in businesses. the US's has been really good at that for decades. Ask Greece how its doing right now.
i love how trump ran on reducing inflation while only having policies that increase inflation and punish consumers. I don't know if i should laugh or cry that people still voted for him.
It is kind of amusing, but I'd still rather vote for him than Harris. Harris had 0 policy, her website had barely anything. It was sad to watch. Literally a decent candidate and human being could have won
@elbe0072 That's not even true based on what Atrioc went over in this video alone. Her website had NOTHING. If it's still up, check it. Id bet my vote you can't find more than the end results and the copying no tax on tips
@@10thletter40 Even if that is true, from the debate and interviews Kamala at least knows basic economics and what tariffs are. She’s also clearly more willing to listen to her party’s advisors, unlike Trump who pressures everyone in the GOP. Trump also exposed himself that he doesn’t even know what tariffs are.
I think it was CNN that made a very granular map of wage increases vs cost of living increases over the last several years. And their point was "in yellow counties, Harris did better and in darker brown-orange counties Trump did better." But my actual takeaway was that according to the key for the chart, the color for parity, cost of living and wages increased by the same proportion, was a light green that appears nowhere on that map.
Makes sense. Rich counties had wage increases but crazy house hikes. Poor countries had some increases but zero increase in wages. No one's winning except landlords and whoever is using real estate as a stock.
Just a heads up, the Fourth Turning is also referenced in Vsauce's video "Juvenoia" which gives a clearer tl;dr breakdown of what the book is about (starts around 16 1/2 minutes). If you watch that video, it's amazing to me how what the Glizzler is saying about current events line up with the generational theory.
My main issue with these non-doomer arguments are that they only look at American history. Of course in American history when things began to look bad miraculously a good leader appeared, that is just an explanation why America is still strong today not an inherent feature of history. Empires have fallen, and America can fail. Additionally, during none of the times mentioned did we have a confluence of climate change, geopolitical strife among several nuclear powers, incredibly large debt, and additionally we could be nearing the end of fossil fuel availability. I wouldn't consider myself a doomer, but I do think we are in a uniquely scary situation and a recession, while being a real short-term worry, should be the least of our worries.
things are even worse then you think. try digging deeper in to how the monetary system works. we would be doomed just by the nature of the system, not counting anything else.
Don't forget the hundreds of thousands of people that died from Covid while Trump did everything he could to fight, downplay and ignore the issue ("people could inject bleach to cure covid") and then when the vaccines were available, he claimed full responsibility for them

I think that the median voter is probably the demographic that cares about economic populism but the further left and right you go from that median the more it becomes about social policies. Im trans and even though im broke and likely will be for a very long time im still going to be voting for the side that I think makes me safer. Ive heard much the same from my friend group that is mostly all trans and/or gay. And on the right you can listen to people that believe tons of conspiracy theories or literally believe that MS13 is going to kidnap their kids or some shit
To be fair, I also think that the economy was gonna be ruined no matter who won and neither candidate had a great solution to it, which made their social policies more important
I think the crazy thing is that Trump is so firmly made out to be the "economy choice", when his campaign has had very little talk about policy at all, and the little policy he has spoken about has been deemed completely ridiculous by practically every economist. It really is crazy how much fearmongering and propaganda can do
It makes sense. When you don't care about anything on a social level (aka, you're probably not a minority) the thing that hits you the hardest is your wallet. When you existence hangs in the balance (be it in reality or imagination) you care a lot less about minmaxing your buying power.
@@BananaWasTaken That reflects too. Kamala knew there wasn't a great solution that wouldn't just anger her voter base, so she held her tongue. Trump promised lies and invigorated people. Shows that people don't want to know the truth.
@@raze2012_ good point. I feel that is reflected in a lot of people who dismiss the anti-democracy tendencies of Trump. They tend to argue along the lines of 'it can't be that bad, this is america' which is not a counterargument, just a dogged belief in American exceptionalism.
I understand Atrioc's point entirely, and I'm not saying he's wrong or that I inherently disagree, but "letting the teeth rot out" just makes this seem like much more innocuous of a situation than it really is. I can't help but feel it's a bit callous to simply tell people to "sit tight" when it's their lives and human rights on the line. Women are already dying because Roe was overturned, Chevron has destroyed any safeguards or trust in industries as fundamental as food production, and Trump (as well as the Heritage foundation, project 2025, GOP at large, etc...) have already made it very clear that they are interested in continuing and amplifying this trend (Obergefell, Loving, etc...). Eventually all societies must fall apart and can't last forever, and I'm not saying that's definitively what's going to happen here, but people choosing to "sit tight and just hold on" isn't always going to be enough. And even if America makes it out the other side with its institutions intact, I think it's quite reasonable and not all that doomer-y to focus on the human cost to get there.
Until his "concepts of a plan" manifest itself into an ACA alternative, I don't think the Republicans are going to try and get rid of the ACA again. Edit: They probably will make changes over time to it though. The tax cuts & jobs act for instance got rid of the individual mandate and other parts of the ACA.
i really love your optimism, but i'm more worried about the in-between. what about the lives of women, people of color, queer folk, trans people, immigrants, muslims who will suffer from the few years he will be in power?
Trust me those won’t be the only ones hurting. We’re gunna have to reinvent an entire nation and crumbling empire and NOBODY is gunna be happy till we get to other side and it’s not gonna be pretty.
I fully agree with your thesis, Atrioc. Lived in China during Trump's term. They LOVE HIM there. As in "funny westerner that does stupid shit and brings business to China". Due to the nature of my work I interacted a lot with factory/business owners, and they were all thrilled at the perspective of a possible reelection at the time.
Fun fact, AOC turned 35 (the minimum age for presidency) in October. Dunno about the other qualifications but I thought that was neat. Even more fun fact, Taylor Swift turns 35 next month.
Atrioc, i don't think the regular people want to be battered for a political situation. I don't want to be rude but you might be looking at this with dissociated eyes of someone who has a decent level of insulation against problems like these. The policies he might implement will have a direct effects on a lot of people
It likely will not be that bad, and at worst his policies will hurt a small portion of the population. In terms of politics there's a reason Atrioc isn't considering it. The people who are most hurt by his potential social policies are not the majority and not what swing voters care about.
@@AnonsTreasuresa small percent of the population is still tens of millions of people be it queer people or immigrants, never mind the families of those who affected. Policy should not be a utilitarian decision and that since it doesn’t affect a majority of the population it would be ok to potentially dramatically change the lives of the minority for the worse
i think the thing is that the average American is too stupid to understand the effects of what Trump will do. Having trump elected will force the average American to face the horrible things that he will cause. It MIGHT make them think "hey, I guess things WERE better under the Democrats". It's an unfortunate reality, I mean obviously atrioc didn't want trump to win
@@firstnamelastname-es7px But that's democracy that's how it works. It's majority rule. Policy is, by the nature of this system, based on helping the largest number of people. @ that’s a fair and understandable point but there is a difference between policy that is a compromise and policy that only drags people down without significant benefit, especially when the policy is against a minority imposed by the privileged.
I think this is the right take, I would bet my left but we are going to have a depression tbh I think we are two years overdue. We've been on the way to a recession/depression for years. With all the money printing during Covid its inevitable, but it'll be a necessary correction.

To be fair to him, few leaders around the world made sound decisions when covid happened That remains a sentiment I hear almost everywhere, in the panic of the moment, many leaders didn’t know what to do
I largely appreciate, and perhaps hesitantly agree with Atrioc's postion that we need to let Trump try things, and people will change their minds if they see his plans not work. There's really two issues with this though imo, and those are democracy and climate. If Trump erodes democracy and stifles free and fair elections, people will no longer have the ability to course correct the government when they realize they don't like what is going on. And then in the case of climate, it's more a matter of addressing the issue is extremely urgent, and the more we delay and wait to feel the negative consequences of it even more, the worse it will get, and it's going to be *really* hard to reverse that, we're already at the point where the best we could possibly do with drastic shifts immediately would merely mitigate the worst consequences of climate change, it's faaaaar too late to prevent it
You do release all this "climate change" is simply the natural cycle of the Earth. We're actually in a cool period from the perspective of the geological temperature record.
trump erodes democracy, says the people who are constantly trying to arrest their political opponents... break free, stop belioving the media. all sides are wrong
Interesting comments about asset holders and non asset holders. I'm the oldest of gen Z and had a late start to life. I find myself struggling bad. I'm increadibly lucky though and have a trust with a fair bit of change to use as a down payment on a home... The problem is I need to be making 80-100k to buy anything in the neighborhood I grew up in or anywhere close! Those homes used to be 250k 10 years ago and have more than doubled in price. I'm working on my education but beyond a few certifications that may or may not help, a 2 year degree will take quite a while working full time and going to school part time. Basically it feels like I won't be able to own a home until I get married and we have to be dual income. It's rough out there and it feels like there's little hope of anything changing. By the time I make my goals I can't help but think things will be worse and the goal post will have moved.
It's called a dual economy. We've definitely were thrown into that in the last 5 years and is why the narrative is so split on if the country is doing well. The problem, as you are experience right now, is that this asset economy is a "I got mine" econnomy. Younger people can't get theirs and they suffer the most. But sadly, they also vote the least proportionate. I say it everytime and will keep saying it but: you'd be surprised how much entire elections can swing if we could somehow get the young people out to vote. I was sort of hoping that to happen when Taylor Swift was forced to make a statement, but I guess I underestated how hard this task is.
the end of the video where atrioc talked about the fourth turning, in which we slowly forgot about why we fought against the 1% of the 1% sapping up all of the assets, makes me wonder: is there a case to be made that the 1% also has a fourth turning of their own alternating with the rest of the classes? like, one in which they have sufficiently built a wealth gap, gotten complacent, and maybe pushed a bit too far with their greed, that sets off retaliation from the lower classes. if there is research done into this idea, i'd love to see it. or maybe that's the core idea of the "gods among men" book atrioc read. admittedly i haven't gotten far in it, it's a tough read for my zoomer brain lol

13:27 hi atrioc, where i am from, we had a political figure which was massively popular in a similar way trump is today. the then ruling politicians thought the same way you articulate right here. They said, we just have to let him rule a little bit to show them how stupid he really is, so that we can show them how we did it somewhat correctly before. They called this "entzaubern" (disenchant / demystify). This did not bode well for us or the rest of europe. I know where youre coming from and what you argument is, i am just saying, that herer in germany, we are entirely against that kind of sentiment, since it backfired quite badly before. (yes i know the fascists are gaining power here aswell and yes i am slowly but surely turning into a doomer)
I think this may legitimately be the start of a third party. As long as a strong candidate is presented, it's highly possible now. This will be an interesting decade.
While I understand that Atrioc looks at this only from an economic standpoint, I dont think that that was the biggest criticism people have of Trump. For most his social standpoints or project 2025 are a WAY bigger issue.
Absolutely, I think almost every doomer in chat are doomer because of the idea that trump really doesn’t care about civil policy and will just let the people around him do what they want, that could mean rights being stripped away from millions of people for 4 years
@@AnonsTreasures It won't happen in some drastic wave like the Blitzkrieg. But watch very carefully over the next year and the year after that. Look at the policies being enacted then look back at 2025. We're boiling frogs otherwise.
For the vast majority of people the only thing they care about when voting is the economic side of things, as evidenced by the election results. There's no point in repeating how bad of a person Trump is over and over again, all the people who voted for Harris already know and all the people who voted for Trump or abstained don't care, they just want a better economic standard of living and see Biden-Harris as having failed to provide it.
Europe isn't gonna turn towards Russia as a whole, if you look at Poland I can't even put peoples hate for Russia into words. There are a few people that wanna move towards Putin but those are a minority
At minimum Eastern Europe is gonna have to unify their military so they can respond to the very real and existential Russian threat. As western Europe is turning to the far right and with figures like orban in power unless we strick now when the iron is hot we in Europe are gonna have some real big problems
Yeah, the Russia one was really dumb on Atrioc's part. Half the continent despises Russia from birth to grave. Chine is more of a possibility. It's far enough away, and isn't a direct existential threat like Russia.
I recently read Dale Eisler's books False Expectations: Politics & The Pursuit of the Saskatchewan Myth and its follow up From Left To Right: Saskatchewan's Political and Economic Transformation and there's some lessons there about the importance of a place's founding myth to its people. If you want to understand the nature of populist politics, its pitfalls and strengths, and how the passion behind them can both be a drive for change and blind political leaders to sober decision making I think it's a good read. I especially think Americans can get a lot out of it as Saskatchewan is similar enough to your country that it can be relatable and different enough and, quite frankly, unimportant enough that you can divorce yourself emotionally from the history in the books. I think Americans would especially see some parallels between Saskatchewan's founding myth and the American Dream. Considering the results of your election and the populist movements going on in the states this kind of book is very relevant.
12:50 I think you make a good point when analyzed from the economic lens. However, the reason people are already focused on stopping him is because a significant portion of his policies are not built on helping people, but instead built on harming people, particularly marginalized people (e.g LGBTQ rights, women's bodily autonomy, mass deportation). Further, as you are making clear in a lot of your arguments, a large reason trump won is not his specific policies, especially as it relates to social issues, but instead the reason is due to economic worries of voters. So these social policies are not even what people want to enact, they're just a byproduct of people's economic worries, which is why people are already talking about stopping him.
People are also tired of you "persecuted" groups acting like the sky is falling constantly when you are at this point yall are fine. Its not just economics, that is just what atrioc touched on because he is a channel centered around economics. Minorities, by definition, are not winning people the polls and the average person is tired of being thrown under the bus for you guys because at this point it is starting to affect our quality of life. The government has neglected its every day citizen for too long and the cracks are showing. That said i dont think trump is gonna be the one to put a bandaid on it but at least this was a wake up call for the DNC
The point on the French elections I find baffling because we have multiple cases in European elections where the Far-Right experiences an expansion, parties form coalitions against them, the Far-Right loses, and overtime the momentary anger that lead to that rise diminishes along with the Far-Right's power. The idea that 'we have to at least let them try so people can see it doesn't work' doesn't seem to be doing Hungary or Poland when it was under PiS much good. Hungary has seen a total dismantling of all opposition parties and a strengthening of Orban's grip along with a reduction of democratic freedoms despite the fact that its only been getting economically worse. It feels like you're applying the 'let them touch the hot stove to know it burns them' logic to when they're pointing a shotgun at their foot. We don't need bad ideas to win to get good ideas. We can just have good solutions. And likewise, a bad idea won't necessarily be followed by a good one, you can just keep going lower until you're so down below the surface that there's not way you can swim back up. So, when saying that the French parties shouldn't have colluded, remember the state of Hungary.
I was pretty dissatisfied with the candidates this year. I think that both of them would be in over their head. The more concerning thing for me is if the the House, Senate, and President are all one party which it looks like it will be the case. I just feel like there is going to be a wave of changes that get forced though quickly while one party has full majority. I would have concerns if it was all Blue as well. It is just scary.
It's also potentially going to be a supreme court where a majority of the justices were appointed by the same guy who is still sitting president, a situation I wouldn't entrust anyone on earth with.
The biggest thing for me is that now he's almost guaranteed another two supreme court picks, basically assuring I'll spend the vast majority of my life living under an extremely conservative and partisan supreme court, regardless of the mid term or next election swing backs. Edit: after finishing the video, to Big A's point of "now we watch and see" and how we have to "experience RFK as a health minister" and get the "tooth decay." While I might not fully disagree with him, the reality of that is that a lot of people will die of preventable deaths. And waiting and seeing if Trump will be even a faction as vindictive as he promised to be on the campaign trail also doesn't do anything to make me like less of a doomer. I really, really, really, want to be wrong but all I'm hearing is, death is gonna be the real world example

I know Big A is more of an economic than social person so he may not be as concerned with a lot of the shitty social and societal policy that Trump has talked about (although he does mention RFK I guess) but like, it’s complete and utter bullshit in my mind that we have to give these hateful and disgusting Social and Societal policies “a fair chance.” Usually I would agree that everything is worth trying but the amount of people who will be unjustly prosecuted and punished by Trump’s administration isn’t worth its weight in whatever economic outcome he brings.
People in the comments are worried about gas and grocery prices, meanwhile, my wife was inconsolable this morning because we worked for months to get me a fiance visa and Trump's cabinet is is already taking steps to denaturalize US citizens. It's so frustrating seeing all of that hard work and stress (and money) go to waste, but ultimately I know I'll be fine. I have a good job waiting for me in Mexico, and my wife can learn Spanish. My heart breaks for the people who've been living in the US legally and honestly for years now that are about to get the rug pulled out from under them, though. I appreciate that you're trying to be optimistic Atrioc, but I do hope you recognize that people's lives will be ruined by this election. The Republicans have made no secret that they want to deport anyone who isn't a born US citizen (and some of them even those who are); they have congress, the presidency and even the supreme court, so there's very little stopping them at this point. I don't think anything is really going to stop them. I guess my only hope now is that all the people who wanted this will learn something from watching US labor be decimated over the next few years - though somehow, I imagine they'll just find someone else to blame it on.
@@testacals I'm not crying. I'm a Mexican, born and raised: I've known my whole life there's a non-zero number of Americans that hate me for existing. This isn't news to me. Even if this policy doesn't pass - if for some reason, congress and the supreme court both decided they're not okay with Trump's cabinet anymore, which I find unlikely - fact is the same people proposing it are still in power, and they're not just going to give up and start playing nice with immigrants because they failed once. But you know that, and you're doing the same thing every republican has done leading up to this election - pretending it's not that bad until it gets that bad. It's honestly so slimy. When it means denaturalizing American citizens and putting them in camps for deportation, the cost of letting the people see if they like what they bought is a little different.

Agreed, I'm a diehard conservative and I respect the hell out of his opinions even if I don't agree with him because of how well he explains them.
It's what allows things to work out the best for the most amount of people. Otherwise you'd have nepotism, or just the majority unhappy and ready to revolt.
@ that’s a fair and understandable point but there is a difference between policy that is a compromise and policy that only drags people down without significant benefit, especially when the policy is against a minority imposed by the privileged.
I don't think Trump can fix the economy in 4 years, but to be fair, I don't think anyone can.
I think this is the right take, I would bet my left but we are going to have a depression tbh I think we are two years overdue.

I'm rooting for you seriously! I'm in the same position.

Project 2025 will never happen
Absolutely, I think almost every doomer in chat are doomer because of the idea that trump really doesn’t care about civil policy and will just let the people around him do what they want, that could mean rights being stripped away from millions of people for 4 years
Deportation of illegals shouldn't be controversial

I am so scared about what this presidency is going to do to trans rights across the country
The only thing I've seen related to "trans rights" is not teaching that stuff to kids in public schools.
As a european, I say: "Your country, your choice". But take it from history: If he doesn't leave in four years, you have a problem.

saving this video for a year later
I was pretty dissatisfied with the candidates this year. I think that both of them would be in over their head. The more concerning thing for me is if the the House, Senate, and President are all one party which it looks like it will be the case. I just feel like there is going to be a wave of changes that get forced though quickly while one party has full majority. I would have concerns if it was all Blue as well. It is just scary.
It's also potentially going to be a supreme court where a majority of the justices were appointed by the same guy who is still sitting president, a situation I wouldn't entrust anyone on earth with.
really appreciate your input. youve kept me really informed through this entire election and i really appreciate it. heres to hope 💯
The biggest thing for me is that now he's almost guaranteed another two supreme court picks, basically assuring I'll spend the vast majority of my life living under an extremely conservative and partisan supreme court, regardless of the mid term or next election swing backs.
Edit: after finishing the video, to Big A's point of "now we watch and see" and how we have to "experience RFK as a health minister" and get the "tooth decay." And waiting and seeing if Trump will be even a faction as vindictive as he promised to be on the campaign trail also doesn't do anything to make me like less of a doomer.

As for the doomer vs being an optimist, which you always bring up, some people have every right to not feel good about the future because they're being cut out of it. Yeah if you zoom out and just see the general trends, then yeah, it's easy to be an optimist. But 130+ people don't kill themselves in this country everyday because they're bored. Not trying to attack you, but you lack perspective.
I don’t normally comment. But your takes align so well with what I have been wanting people to talk about. Being able to understand what the other side is thinking is something that I hate has been lost in the media, so thank you.
I have no idea if it would be possible, but it would be cool if Atrioc could interview Lina Khan, considering she will probably have a little more free time after January
