Such a nice show, I've been to Hinton only once, will never forget that, I used to haul peat moss from Seba Beach quite often

Great video! Nicely photographed and edited. The scenery is spectacular and I love the shot of the train reflecting in the lake. Liked and SUBBED!

The two locomotives at 25:18 were Zebra-striped EMD SD40-2Ws

Those units are nicknamed "Zebras", because of the white stripes.

The full length Canadian is like a step back in time to see the great streamliners of the 40's and 50's. The last such train in N. America, so catch it if you can. The Yellowhead is the easiest railroad crossing of the continental divide by far, thanks to the pass's lower elevation and the no expense spared approach of the builders of the GTP in constructing what was meant to be the best high speed transcontinental trunkline route in the Americas. So easy was the GTP's mountain route that during it's history there was no need for any helpers or unusually large steam locomotives. While CPR was building relatively huge 2-10-0's 0-6-6-0's, and often double and triple heading even moderately heavy trains over Kicking Horse and Roger's Passes, GTP was operating single 4-6-2's on their heaviest passenger and freight trains. Even after CN took over, most trains were pulled by the same locomotives that pulled the trains across the prairies. The CNoP was not nearly as well constructed and was abandoned in favor of the superior GTP in most locations between Edmonton and Red Lake during WWI. I used to drive on a section of the old CNoP grade to and from work when I lived in Hinton, now called West River Road. Most every other continental divide rail crossing route has one or more 1.8% or steeper grades, even GN's Marias Pass. Interestingly - the big challenge on the Yellowhead pass is in the foothills. CN has some 1.0 % grade in the eastern approach to the Rockies (the steepest grades allowed by the GTP on its mainline), and the highest point (not by much) on the original railway mainline is in he foothills a few miles east of Hinton, not far from the site of the infamous Via - CN head on collision in 1986.

Thanks for the explanation. I had seen some of the abandoned grade there, but I did not know what it was.
Now it feels in the gaps from somebody not from there.
