      I got lazy and didn’t fully read this sentence from Smith’s Wikipedia page:
      “August 1983 also saw Smith become the first athlete to run under 10 seconds (9.97) for the 100 m and under 20 seconds (19.99) for the 200 meters in the same evening in Zurich, Switzerland.”

      Very underrated for sure. He held the world record in the 100m at one point. I saw him run at a Sunshine State meet at the U. Amazing runner.

      Yes Carl was floating inspired by his peers, to inspire the younger generation on how to run like that. I was in 8th grade , and ran all the same runs Carl run in track, just amazed. But records are made to be broken.

    Jimmy Carter messed up two Olympics by calling for the boycott of Moscow. He messed up the 1980 Moscow Olympics and the 1984 Olympics when USSR boycotted Los Angeles Olympics in response. So unnecessary.

    South Jersey TC had plenty of world class athletes back in the 80s. Carl Lewis and Dennis Mitchell were just two of them. They drew a lot of interest to the sport when they were in high school.

      Carl was not a good high school sprinter, he only ran relays. In fact he was only offered a scholarship because he was a great long jumper. Even in college he wasn’t a great sprinter as Burrell was the top guy at Houston.

NBC would take over broadcasting the summer games in 1988 and CBS would broadcast the winter games from 1992 until 1998. After that NBC became the exclusive home for both the winter and summer Olympics.

    1984 was quite the year for Carl Lewis, he was drafted by both the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bulls. Two sports he had never played and had zero interest in playing. Moral of the story: there was way too many rounds in the drafts back then, lol.

    As of the year 2019 every medal winner would of tested positive except for one athlete!! That being Carl Lewis in the 100, 200, long jump and of course the 4 x 100 relay!! You can find it somewhere if you don’t believe the truth given to you now!!

      No, you're wrong. If an athlete steps in the outer lane on the turns, it is forgiven as long as he doesn't infringe any other athlete. That track judges scrutinized it and adjudicated in Carl's favor. That is normal; it happens all the time.

      @@osikanii not sure where you get your info. Lane violations always lead to disqualification.
      The only exception is if a runner is forced into an adjacent lane, and does not impede the runner in that lane.

      @Mr5percenter No they're correct. It's only if you step out on the line to the inside of the lane, because that's considered an advantage because the inside lane is a shorter distance. If you step on the line outisde the lane that's considered longer and therefore its not an advantage. It's in the iaaf rules. I checked it when justin gatlin stepped outside the lane at worlds in 2013.
