This is probably a stupid question, but does it need to be this long to be successful? I work with an 18 month old who only has an inch or two and am struggling to braid it nearly.

give it time…iid say let it be and stop braiding so you don’t break her hair, it will grow

Last week, I went to four consultations at braiding salons in the ATL, and each one said, they can't do feed-in braids on short hair. Because it's only 1.5" to 1.75" long, it will take too many hours (5-6) and that I need to come back, when it's at least 3" long.
Her hair is not extremely short it’s 4c
The length is considered short for stitch braids
I would've thought if her hair was extremely short the braids would need to be much smaller.

Not many braider can grip this lenght for stitch
