I have just started my first painting in impasto technique with oils. It is excellent and easy - no solvents, no smell, just one knife and oil paint. Oil paint does not smell at all! No cleaning, just wipe the knife and palette with a paper towel. Superb colors and I really love it. The painting in the movie is in oils.

My guess it is oil paint. It looks like oil on palette and on the canvas. Acrylics would skin over in the time she was doing this so it's got to be oils.
