    Good Video Karl
    Worked with Eizo screens since '97
    They are more expensive but they are worth the money.
    And for that price getting the flag ship Eizo monitor is not a bad deal.

    This exact same monitor costs 3,500 US Dollars here in the US. But, Eizo still sells a Color Edge CS2740 27” 4K monitor for USD 1,800 and you can add the hood for USD 190, which in my opinion is a better choice for a photographer. At least is the one I would choose.

    • @VisualEducationStudio

      Why do you think it is a better choice for photographers when the CS series aren't as refined for colour accuracy as the CG series?

      @@VisualEducationStudio basically the only difference is that this one in the review is a HDR monitor, and maybe some small design differences. but from the functionality point of view, not much difference. I don’t need an HDR monitor, in my opinion this is more useful for people who edit videos that where recorded in 4K HDR.

      CS2740 and CG2700S is not the same. Its totally different panels, which can be seen in calibration data, contrast and brightness figures. Moreover the CG2700X has built in sensor and a lot of other gizmos. Great review. Agreed, 27" is the sweet-spot size-wise. 24" was too small, 31" too large, 27"... just right! I currently run (3) 27" monitors side-by-side, all three were NEC's, but recently I swapped out one for an Apple Studio Display 5K to try it out. The ASD has lots of advantages, unfortunately it falls short in the Adobe RGB Gamut department (about 85%) but covers about 99% P3. ASD is 218ppi, instant on (on Macs), keyboard controls (on Macs), native palette sizing default, etc. I have always worked predominately toward "print" targeted workflows in the past, but I have to face the fact that (in my case) most of my work never ends up in print anymore (more so every year). For print work Eizo is pretty much the "king"! IMO

    I wonder why especially Eizo and NEC with their great yet pricey monitors haven’t followed Apple and their monitors in terms of resolution and bumped the resolution of the 27“ to 5K and the 31.5“ to 6K. But than the necessary panels of that size and resolution aren’t available at the quality these companies want, especially when it comes to colour accuracy and uniformity.
    But anyway, great review 👍. Seems to be a great monitor, but what else would you expect from a company like Eizo.
    And never mind the pronunciation, at my age of 55 I’ve been pronouncing it in the same incorrect way as you for as long as I can think 😂

    Thanks for the great review as always Karl.
    I understand the display delivers you sharper looking visually in term of reduction of the screen size from 31 to 27.
    Have you tested the impression for printing result accuracy retouched by this new monitor?
    If the screen is looking sharper, does it confuse you the amount of contrast you may apply during the post production stage?
    Or maybe just need some experience to get used to it?
    I also use Eizo self-calibrated monitor, and I remember it effected level of my contrast adjustment when I just switched from glossy Apple screen.

      Hi not any different for print compared to my 31. The Eizo's always represent more accurately what you would get from a calibrated printer but prints always look a bit flatter depending on the display conditions, so I have a couple of processes for enhancing my images before they go to print.

    Hi Ben, I', a colorist and art director here in Japan, and I followed your video and bought exactly this monitor.
    I have the 31 inches at my office and I like this monitor much more. What I noticed is that the calibrator is not as precise as calibrating the monitor with the X-Rite 1-Display. I tested many times, and I was getting crazy! I couldn't get a good color skin from the self-calibrator! Yes, I know it sounds crazy but that was my result. As I work with both color grading on Rec709 and photos on Adobe RGB, I found my REC709 was way too green. Then I tried the X-Rite and gave me a better result. Kind of similar to what I have on my 31". Both monitors have a self-calibrator but the results are quit different. I wonder If I got a loonie monitor! Cheers!

      I experienced the green tint you speak of and actually just bought this recently as well. I ended up resetting it and the default was back to normal. Then I calibrated the user slot back to its native state with the internal (bc i think thats how it wants to work). For some reason, doing that made the rest fall into place. But I think ill be getting myself an XRite because I feel like im going crazy. I know the APAC Eizo guys recommend correlating the internal sensor to a good spectrophotometer but the amount of money for one of those is astronimical.
      Im curious, did you have the same issue with running a clean video signal and also through the usb cable?

    When a monitor is calibrated (auto or manual), isn't it just really calibrating the spot that's directly under the sensor? How do you know the rest of the monitor area is also calibrated correctly? If there are very tiny variations across the monitor in the LCD pixels, driver circuitry, etc., it seems like those areas wouldn't be calibrated right.

    • @VisualEducationStudio
      @VisualEducationStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that's correct. The highest quality monitors guarantee a uniformity of the pixels areas over the whole monitor. So one area will always be equal to another, the weakest areas are often at the edge of a monitor but in a few centimeters from the edge and you'll be fine.

    WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE CG2700S FOR GRADING VIDEOS ?

  • @Underhills
    @Underhills 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The CE models are great but 4K on 27" is not a good match. Much better off with 1440p on that screen estate. 4K demands the 31.9" model and of course that cost an arm and a leg. I've owned several Eizo CE models, they really stand out, however I do think they should reconsider their price strategy, they are not very competative. Today we have monitors costing half the price for perhaps 80,% of the same capasity.

    • @artysanmobile
      @artysanmobile 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure what you mean by “not a good match”. There are countless models from many manufacturers who obviously know better. Perhaps you’re thinking of gaming? Or maybe the persisting myth that Mac computers can’t display that resolution? Either way, scaling is achieved by the display card and as you can see from the zooming shown, there is no resolution conflict as you imply.
      Photographers and video colorists need absolute color accuracy which monitors costing ‘half the price’ cannot achieve. That need justifies a very hard to achieve 100% spec and that costs money. The needs of music production, gaming, and entertainment are so much lower and those users can indeed spend half the price and be perfectly served.

    Hi Karl. Question about retouching. Would it be an advantage in Photoshop to highly increase the image resolution simply to see fine detail. When completed retouching reduce image resolution to what is needed.

    • @VisualEducationStudio
      @VisualEducationStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, no not really. If you were to increase the resolution beyond what was originally there then you are doing something called interpolating which is where the software guesses which pixels to add. If you do this it is best done with Gigapixel or PS super resolution. If I have to do that I prefer to do it after the whole retouch is complete.

    I have a very small living and editing situation (a van), and I’m thinking about getting this monitor to function great for photo editing for work, but also run an external DVD/blue ray player and switch to use for watching movies. I’ve always thought that using a dedicated professional photo editing monitor for casually watching movies, might have detrimental effects on the image quality and calibration settings over time. As long as I calibrate it every time I use it for editing, I’ll be okay?

    • @VisualEducationStudio
      @VisualEducationStudio  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, it won't have any detrimental effect and you can run a direct HDMI cable from your laptop or apple tv box or whatever directly into the monitor to view movies too if you need. The monitor self calibrates every 200 hours or so to keep itself on point. After many years the colour of the monitor might shift ever so slightly but that's nothing to worry about in the short term, my Eizo is on 10 hours per day 5 days per week, it doesn't matter whether that was retouching or watching movies.

    Wouldn't a OLED monitor give better color? Because you can get now 27inch 4K OLED displays like the LG 27GR95QE-B for less than half of this price and it also has 240Hz!

    • @Klotgren
      @Klotgren ปีที่แล้ว

      OLED's has their issues. Yes, better blacks, but not good in the grey tones instead. Moreover the Oled usually has quite poor brightness, and that the blue color ends much faster than the other colors.

    • @aaronperelmuter8433
      @aaronperelmuter8433 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously? Or are you just kidding? In what way would an OLED screen offer better colour? Definitely cannot compare when it comes to colour accuracy or dead neutral greyscale, and of course the white point is going to be far more accurate than an OLED. The only thing I can think of which an OLED can compete with the current top end Eizo screen is for the black level, but for photographic work, this is an absolutely useless benefit. With the intensely dark black level of OLED screens, it just gets all crunched up and muddying the darkest shadow tones to the point that many tones can’t be easily distinguished from each other.
      I’m curious, in what way do you think an OLED screen could possibly offer “better colour” than this Eizo CG2700X and which brand and model specifically?
