I've spent a lot of training on my rising trot, and since I am so used to going up down, up down, up down, I was super bouncy in my canter. I am so used to going in the rising trot rhythm, that in my canter my horse thought I wanted a super fast trot. I am still learning xd.
I know this is super old but I thought I could give some tips (and also help some People watching the video and reading the comments) 1. Get your horse collected!! It is very hard for horses to canter with their heads up. 2. Make sure your toes are forward and heels down!! It is very annoying for horses when the riders are constantly jabbing them with their heels!! Try applying pressure with your calves instead! 3. Look where you want to go and try to move with your horse. Horses can feel everything you do, they are very sensitive. 4. Try to keep your hands still and don't balance yourself with the reins. Try to use your legs and seat to balance instead of using the reins. Make sure your hands are still so that you aren't putting too much pressure on the bit. Hope I can help a little! Good luck!

Haha yeah I ride this ex race horse called willow and he is bouncy as hell. It's strange because you don't expect his stride to be so short for an ex race horse!

That was great! On my first time cantering the little 10.2hh gelding I rode shot out so fast! I nearly fell off! I'm a lot better now. My instructor didnt let me canter until my sitting trot was perfect and that meant loads of trotting without stirrups.
Nice, this video is OLD but you did excellent for a first time! Sometimes no matter what method is used you have to pick up the reins and go for it, muscle memory can't be learned without simply doing it :)

My first canter was horrifying😂😂My pony was just fast trotting the whole time and not getting into the canter so I was just jiggling around😂When he finally did canter it caught me off guard since he was just trotting the whole time and I flew forward clear over his head😂Not a pleasant experience but ark east it taught me to always be on my toes! After that I cantered and it was far from perfect but I didn't fall off so that was good😂But you did so well your first canter!!
Try to sit deep in the saddle whilst cantering. Try not to keep bouncing out of the saddle every time you canter. But for a first go you were AMAZING!! Well Done!! :)

Good job! My first canter was on my first lesson because I was using a very push-button horse who was very sensitive to every movement so I gave him to much leg while trotting and he took off into a canter and we went backwards over a 2 foot jump.
All in your first lesson? And you stayed on? Your so good! I didn’t trot til prolly my third lesson, and it was prolly my 15th or so when i cantered and it took a while to get to the canter I do today. Lol

I think cantering is WAY easier than posting or seated trotting. I had my first canter lesson today, and it was so fun:) I nearly fell off the first time though xD
For me cantering is much scarier than trotting and posting, just because of the motion and speed. It felt really fast to canter. And my second time I didn't make the corner but my horse did, so I flew away from the horse😱My butt was hurt for few days but I was in one piece. I hope to get better in the future💖
NOT HATE, I think she should practice her sitting trot and making her hands not go all over the place it helps with cantering! Other than that really good!

Epic story time! It was this day that ive gotten to go to horse riding, i was excited (like always) but i got to ride a completely different horse that ive never ridden so i was like "Yeah uh.. Suree jep.." and since ive been there for about 2-3 months i finally got to canter! So everyone did a canter and then the teacher said "Moon Azure, why dont you try it?" i was shocked, also kinda scared and happy at the same time so we wnet from walk to trot to EVEN faster trot then i thought "AHH I DONT KNOW HOW TO DO THISS" i kinda just uhm panicked just a little bit though. So i got into a canter and my whole saddle was sideways and i was putting my body forward but then the teacher said to do it with your body back, i tried and it was awsome! I hope y'all know the only reason she was pulling on the horses mouth was because she was balancing and trying to hold on with the reins....I did it put a bit of no reins cantering and lose rein cantering really helps. .now I'm jumping 4 ft!

When I first got to my canter I was in a huge group lesson and I was on my favorite horse and my trainer told me to trot (I didn't know how to canter) and everyone else to canter. When she asked for everyone to canter and me to trot my horse got confused and cantered for about a spilt sec and when I went back to the barn I asked the horse trainer in training if I could canter. She said yes and I canter for about two minutes and it was so fun.

How come you have tall boots when this is only your first time cantering? You did really good but i only had paddock boots when i cantered for the first time xDDD Also i really like your saddle pad and really pretty horse!!!
Maybe try working on a collected trot while learning to canter? Your horse puts his nose out when he trots, which as you probably know hollows out his back. And trust me, a hollow backed horse is NOT a fun horse to get the canter on or ride the canter on :)

Because as I see, you don't have your hands still and I didn't heard that your trainer said something about that o.0 So thats weird, what kind of trainer does that ? So first of all, try to trot a little better and then try to learn canter :) My advice....
Everyone at the area had there reins up you shouldn't have them up so high like that! Maybe its different in other places but just keep your hands down a little bit more

Sitting trot is so hard! If I didn’t have a strap on my saddle to hold onto I would’ve had like 10 extra falls from sitting trot XD
