    It was a very bad decision to remove the Glass-Steagall Act in the late 1990s, which led to the spectacular failure of huge banks during the financial crisis of 2007-2008. To prevent another disaster, Dodd-Frank and this statute both need to be reestablished right away. What happened with SVB is only the beginning of what will happen if nothing is done to address the current situation.

    • @AnthonyHart34
      @AnthonyHart34 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I believe SVB was making an effort to reorganize their bond portfolio. Yes, they would lose money if they sold their low-yielding bonds. But, they were trying to make up for it by repurchasing bonds on the open market at the higher interest rate.

    • @Igorstravinsky788
      @Igorstravinsky788 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Although the economy has so far held up, the SVB scenario serves as a warning that Fed rate hikes are still having an impact. At times like this, investors must be vigilant about the next inevitability. You don't have to act on every forecast, therefore I'll advise you to hire a financial counselor. This has been my fallback position for a while.

    This just highlights the ridiculous model of VC and investors subsidising operating costs for what are mostly low end companies with nothing truly groundbreaking to offer. Probably a good time to reflect on whether there has been an over allocation of capital, potentially even misallocation of capital to start up tech. Let's be honest, vast swathes of these outfits tend to be unnecessary intermediary services or frankly built on personal data gouging for ad revenue. That is not the required innovation for this new era.

      They need some cash to deal with payables and receivables. But beyond like 30 days of cashflow, you're right that they absolutely should be holding bills directly, and many companies do this. I was shocked that any company would have billions in a deposit account.

      Here's a thought...they need to do business with the bank. If you're in great standing, you don't need SVB but if you need them, then you need to have your deposits there as part of the agreement. Mystery Solved. And if you have been with them for decades, you build a trust. SVB helps start-up in alot of ways...not your typical bank.

      I felt crypto would break something. And the other problem is the govt hates crypto...so do you think the govt cares if any business related to crypto fails? Nope. I have thought about this and they may even want banks to fail to some degree so they can get people on their future digital currency that they are working on.

    I don't see any problems; to solve the financial problem of the SVB all it takes is the sleepy pres. BIDEN authorizes the Fed to print an additional $2 trillion and bail out the SVB and other Silicon Valley banks once money printing has become fashionable in the UNITE STATES. 😂😂😂😂

    The fed must lower rates monday. Banks have big losses on treasuries that has lost value. Banks can not serve all depositors. Get your money out. Way to go central planners...

    • @krisalis709
      @krisalis709 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the banks fault. The Fed announced aggressive interest rate hikes in advance. SVB bet that this would only be short term hikes and held onto their treasuries. It's only when they realized that inflation was going to be sticky and interest rates would be held higher for longer did SVB panic. Not the Fed's fault.

    • @ChadSimplicio

      Everyone knows that Powell will not do that. He will keep raising rates until he feels that inflation has been reined in.

    I am new to the stock market. Every stock that I bought so far, I was out of luck because I bought them when they were expensive. I feel I missed out on all the stock opportunities so far for the tech stocks.I believe having 175K yearly income would be a good investment so I want to plug all my savings into the stock market. I know this sounds a bit dull but I would like to know if I should learn investing or let somebody else (more capable like a FA) do it for me? Please share your thoughts. I am kind of tired of searching for a good stock to buy and losing all the good opportunities.
