It’s amazing to think this was all played by hand on a simple Minimoog, Polymoog and Roland SH2000 originally. Incredible talent. The Oboe sound and in fact most of the lead sounds came from the Roland.
Exactly. I'd never say with modern tools anybody could do that, of course not. But the skills needed in these primitive days of synthesizers were incredible.
@@Oli1974 it’s amazing. Like you say on such primitive synths too. Take Vangelis for example, before he got his first CS80 in 1977, his main synths were an ARP Pro-soloist, Minikorg, Roland SH3 and Farfisa syntorchestra. All very simple synthesizers but the huge sound and textures he got from them were out of this world. It always fascinates me.
from some sources : Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase" features a rich combination of synthesizers and sequencers, reflecting the cutting-edge technology of the late 1970s. The primary synthesizers and equipment reportedly used in creating the track include: Moog Modular System 55: A central component for the sequence-driven bassline, which is iconic to the track. Roland System 700: Contributed to various effects and textures throughout the composition. Minimoog: Often employed for leads or supporting layers in Moroder's productions. Polymoog: Used for pads and additional harmonics, adding depth to the track. ARP 2600: Likely added specific effects or melodic lines. Moog Vocoder: A favorite of Moroder for adding futuristic textures.
@ this is taken from an interview with Greg Mathieson who is credited on the album: Says Greg: "The bass parts were done with my Mini Moog. Anything that sounds sequenced wasn't. For the bass parts I would play 8th notes and an AMS digital delay would play the 16th notes. I remember that Giorgio had some small cheep, preset synth that we used for a lot of the melody sounds. I don't remember what it was, I'm sorry. All the other keys were real." I believe the cheap preset-keyboard that Greg's referring to was a Roland SH-2000, because that's one of the synths used by Giorgio and Faltermeyer for the actual movie score (Faltermeyer told me that a while ago). Some of the melody sounds in the movie sounds pretty much identical to those heard on the album and that's the reason I think it's the same synth. They go on to say: They used a lot of Phase and Flange boxes on these instruments. "The drums were a tape loop. They had a piece of 2 track tape stretched between a mike stand and a 2 track machine and they would VSO it for different tempos." All the synth & keyboard parts were recorded at Larabee studios in Hollywood. The synth parts for the movie version was recorded by Giorgio and Harold Faltermeyer at Dan Wyman's Sound Arts studio in LA.
Classic Giorgio Moroder ♫ , nice you did video about it. I met Giorgio few years back in person and he signed my album - great memories in London. Next time try recreating From Here To Eternity by Giorgio.
This is one of the so many, many fine songs that I found through Ed Starink's synth music collections (the guy who was belting out cheap reconstructions for a record label that could not secure licenses from the original artists). This is also one of the songs he did fairly well. I have made a tracker version but I must now admit that my key is probably off a few semitones, and I never took the analysis and selection of sounds anywhere as far as you did. YOU ROCK!
Claudio! 42:25 You are a big child.... 😉😁 you love the music... you can't deny it... this shows on you. This reconstruction is also a masterpiece from you. Thank!
Very close indeed! I believe in 1978 GM would have used the Moog Modular extensively, as he did on I Feel Love in 1977. It's unlikely he used any kind of sampling, so no fancy waveforms or anything. Also, I recall reading that for the high hat and triangle, he apparently used tape loops in reverse, as well as reusing them for other songs. You emulated that pretty well, though maybe the right-panned high hat could use a slightly slower attack to simulate that reverse sound. Lastly, minor thing, but to my ears the LFO on the flanger is more of a sine wave than a triangle, as it lingers a bit more on the peaks, if you know what I mean. Great job.
Gosh Claudio, how??? I was literally thinking about you deconstructing this song a week ago when I listened to it but I thought Giorgio Moroder was already mentioned during Donna Summer deconstruction and was confident that I will never hear more of Giorgio.
You asked what I think... Snare almost perfect but I'm hearing a slightly longer tail on the original. Likewise with the open hat - a tad more sustain. 🙂
I think the flanger might actually a comb filter on the original track. I have no idea what they actually used but it has a particular sound as you approach the bottom of the filter and the combs line up. I'm only going on what I hear but maybe stick a comb filter on and see how that goes. The flanger does sound pretty close though.
re-making the sounds of Giorgio Moroder's cat people soundtrack would be an interesting challenge do you accept this challenge Claudio? this message will distruct in 5 seconds 😁(mission impossible)
Paul’s Theme would make for an interesting reconstruction. I’ve been listening to it since I was a kid and I’m still not sure what I’m hearing in some parts.
Hi. Amazing song and result. But cristmas is coming. What about take a classical song (Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker for example) and reconstruct it?
I own the Dune 3 vst. Is the Legend HZ in any way better? The Dune plugin also has 3 Osc per Voice/Layer and i can use even 3 or more layers, which gives me even more Osc's than The Legend. And Dune 3 also has moog filters. IMHO Dune 3 is more powerful ... or am i wrong ?

- Cool. And I missed the premiere again.
- Kebu did such a great cover of this song.
Kebus version is awesome.
@@metaluna72 Oh. I'll have to check that out. I've got a couple of versions already but haven't seen Kebu's.

Back then, people could actually play a keyboard. Now, it is only playing arpeggios and some LFO knob twisting…

One of the best electro song ever made.
I only recently became aware of Giorgio Moroder and ever since I’m very fascinated with his approach to synth sound design.
The flanger used on the Chase is widely believed to be the MXR Flanger pedal effecting the classic Solina String Ensemble.
Claudio Moroder 🙂
Aside from "Chase" this synth app could churn out some killer early 1990's trance!
I love the reconstructions. Keep it coming, Claudio!
Always great to see an absolute master at work! Well done! Unbelievable that this song is from the 70's :) Still holds today
This video shows Moroder on a Liverperformance of Chase in German TV th-cam.com/video/WmNH1e8yqdY/w-d-xo.html
This is amazing! Chase is my favourite Moroder track!
Brilliant. Brings me back to the 70s I wish this music genre would get hot again Flangers are so cool
omg you finally did it, i've been wanting chase forever !!!!

I could listen to this music on repeat for hours and never get tired of it. Legendary track!
Nailed It!!!👊
when music was music! So much fun
Please do "Training Montage" by Vince Dicola, best synth sounds mankind has ever heard!
Julian Croot already did it. Check out his entire Rocky IV soundtrack covers.
Thanks for putting me on to Vince - I don't know how I've missed that for 40 years!
I agree 😎👍

Thanks for this tribute.
Man, it looks so easy when you do it! :o)
great rework...learned a lot of bass and these cool efx of it....and the sounds at the end from "the legend hz" are so cool and amazing

Also if memory serves me right, the running bass line was on the Moog sequencer as well
Hello! I think he made the bass line in one modular moog patch. In it, you can divide the sounds into two pan channels and make a delay for each one.
love this plugin mate, purchased this one a while back, best moog emulation!
This synth is amazing... On TH-cam is not always easy to get the details of every synth, but this is big
lavoro eccezionale, bravo Claudio. Ciao.
This might be your closest one yet. Amazing!
42:11 The switch between the 2 tracks has created an amazing and incredible new sound !!!🚀🚀
Whats amazing to me is how good vst instruments sound hardly any difference between analog and digital
Wow the best recreation by doctor mix! 👏 😊
With my favorite vst
Good Job!!
I also used a triangle sequence in reverse
1:38 / 29:50 - those moments gave me Ken Ishii-vibes straight away!
Gdy spotyka się geniusza człowiek nie czuje się za dobrze...
Great version of the chase classic 👌

Kebu does a kickass recreation of Chase. Should check it out.
Greetings from Black Forest..... I like this Dr. Mix 😅 very spezial (Michael)
There is no room in your studio for the Osmose! You must send to me immediately 😂
Great job!
HAI ZEE! The jury is still out. The flanger may be the MXR117, A/DA ,EHX Electric Mistress or Roland SBF-325.

Evening Claudio 👍👍
When will you show us some Roli keyboard?
Your version is brighter sounding
@1:16 Claudio, What did you just eat? Your stomach is growling rather loudly. 😂
AHA Maestro! Getting closer to "From Here To Eternity"!?
Giorgio Moroder ❤

My Favorite Song from Giorgio... &....From here to Eternity
Great Job Claudio 🤗
I think... Giorgio use the MF-103S 12-Stage Phaser...maybe
2:15 perfect preset for breaks in old skool jungle
Claudio - maestro!
Coast to Coast am Amercian radio show theme lol. But where does all that synth stuff come from in the Jeff Rense radio show, always wondered that.
The flanger on your pad is a little too deep. The original had a bit more noise in it too. Other than that you got really close.
I think the flanger might actually a comb filter on the original track. THE LEGEND HZ
4 me, the pad is a flanger over a all wet reverb, like from here to eternity
Brings back memories of "Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories"! ❤️
Hi grande Claudio
I love what Claudio doing, but the best version of "Chase" is by Joris Voorn! Shout out to one, who got it!
Hey dr M, What is more difficult, copying a song or making a new one of the same quality?
From the High Desert...
Bonsoir de Paris
I wonder if the original snare sound also had a low passed white noise component too
❤
3:50 - 4:10 It's just fine))
Can you try recreate something like Dreams of Leaving by Human League? Those sounds have always fascinated me.
I heard a rumour you possess a custom C64 synth from Finland. Wheres the episode, have I missed it?
Isn't the attack on the flangey pad a bit too short?
Hi DrMix, please test the New Moog Labyrinth Synthesizer ❤
Yes your right courage turns to stupid pretty quick that's the catch.
Claudio, I’m seeing a wooden desktop. Where’s the Yamaha Nuage?
Ask Kebu about that pad
...one more last Sound i promise then G.Moroder Chase...a few samples later..LOL
