      Really? I like it. Not the best, but good. Few downsides

    • @foodquig
      @foodquig 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WhiskyNeighbour Few downsides, yes, but also few upsides... I find it to be somewhat bland for my tastes. It's a good whisky for beginners who are just getting into whisky, I guess. I'd rather go for a Johnnie Walker Green or one of the Douglas Laing regional blended malts if I can only have a blended malt.

      @@foodquig I certainly enjoy Green more than this. Cheers!

    This is probably my favourite blended whisky. It's so smooth to drink, whenever I find it on sale I pick up a bottle. I found it for $48 before Christmas. AnCnoc 12 is a very nice scotch, both are staples in my collection. Thanks Jon!

    I love this particular scotch I enjoyed it for the first time last night and I'm enjoying it again with one of my favorite budget cigars excellent price and wonderful speyside scotch absolutely phenomenal and that 30 to $40 price range one of those few affordable scotches that anybody could really get into and enjoy absolutely enjoy the flavor the scent. Not to mention it's a malt scotch that I affordable and slightly peated

    Happy New Year, WN! A Saturday night video...2021 is already off to a great start!
    I actually had the Monkey Shoulder before I got on my American whiskey kick (those tariffs from our last President played a role) and I found it solid. Now I will have to re-visit! BTW, I've enjoyed the AnCnoc that I've had in the past but that was a while ago.
    Sipping on Alberta Cask Strength Rye (132 proof and delicious!) and Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye (115 proof) while enjoying your video.
    To a wonderful 2021! Cheers!

    Enjoyed the review, was wondering about Monkey Shoulder as it is one of the ten or twelve scotches available in the local shop, three or four of them are a bit pricey for me and the bottom shelf is always there but once in a while I like to treat myself to a decent whisky without breaking the bank, I’m going to give it a try, thanks again.

    I've heard of Monkey Shoulder, but never seen it on our shelves. Given that it's a single malt blend, how could it compare to some of Compass Box's offerings ?
    Btw, on New Year's Eve, I finally went ahead and cracked open my Glenrothes 12. I was at a relative that actually appreciates good scotch. At first, we had a dram of Tomintoul Tlath, which I really enjoyed. When it came time to taste the Glenrothes 12, we both agreed it was a fantastic sherried scotch. Lots of vanilla, melon, citrus and nutmeg.
    Looking forward to more reviews in the New Year. May you stay healthy, so, SO important now that there's a more contagious strain of Covid going around. Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)

    Happy New Year Jon. Enjoyed the review and agree with you, the MS is a nice, easy sipper. It's only 40% ABV here in the UK, however it's only £26 UKP and often on offer for £22 UKP. Not had the anCnoc yet, but can get for around £25 UKP. Cheers 🥃🥃

    On pricing: Wow! In my area Monkey Shoulder is $10-15 (USD) cheaper than Glenlivet 12 and Glenfiddich 12 and $30 cheaper than Balvenie 12! I happen to have it poured right now alongside Glenfiddich 12 and Balvenie 12. Unfortunately, these days Monkey Shoulder cost more than Glenfiddich 12 in my country, not just in Canada. IMHO Glenfiddich 12 is a better value and quality scotch. The recent batch of Monkey Shoulder lost some of its maltiness, fruitiness and citrusy notes compare to the earlier batch about 4 years ago. And Happy New Year to you and your family. Cheers

      Thank you for sharing more insight into MS and it's progression over the past few years. I should have a bottle of Glenfiddich 12 to directly compare, but I finished one about half a year ago and in my memory I enjoyed it a bit more than this.
