This is ridiculous. Who are they to deprive thousands of people of the happiness brought by the handpan, be it players or listeners ? And, honestly, after listening to their "sound sculptures", I have to say that many handpans sound really better to my ears ! I donate to protect the handpan 👍💗🎼🎵

Actually its interesting because when you're learning Asian (both south and east) music, there's a lot less emphasis on sheet music and 'structure' and a greater focus on embellishment and tonality. Western classical music is much more heavily based around sheet music, sort of more of a science. Not that one is better than the other, but I feel like you can hear it when you listen to traditional instruments play (bamboo flute vs classical flute). So yes, in some ways its an evolution, but in some ways it a return to the old :D
Oh I have a feeling these two do plenty of ecstatic dances between the sheets and go beyond the notes . Maybe not with each other but each other’s individual spirit or handpan

I wanted to say that my mother showed me randomly one day and I listened for a few minutes with her. The part from 4:50 to 5:15 of the song resonated so strongly with me that I kept hearing it in my head for hours even after hearing only once. It is beautiful and I can't really explain why

This is an absolutely breathtaking instrument. I suffer from ADHD and this kept my undivided attention. Upon research of this instrument I realized how relatively new it is. I can understand why the creators would be frustrated HOWEVER, i agree with the idea that people should be allowed to create their own. This is music. Music is one of the oldest forms of self expression and self expression is all we have in this world. Apart from the love we share with the ones that are close to us. Humans have been inspiring each other for thousands of years, bouncing ideas off one another. We feed off each other and the energies that we put out into the world. A lot of great works have come from the inspiration of either something or someone outside of themselves. Idk, maybe it is all about the money, maybe they feel as if they must protect their creative character. I can understand why they might feel a little cheated. But I think they are looking at it the wrong way. What should be bringing people together has turned into another object of corporate greed. If anything i think they should get their design patented if they want to protect it. But making it illegal is just absurd! I wish everyone knew about this.

As for the PANArt copywrite issue...by the same reasoning all violins would be mere copies of the first violin ever created and same with all cellos or clarinets or trumpets or guitars....yet there are many companies making all these instruments and these “copies” are not illegal. The World is a better place having instruments. Music is an unstoppable healing force which is why so many people make instruments. The creation of the original Hang Drum was/is a gift to humanity and it is only normal as with all other instruments throughout time that other people have learned to make handpans. Each and every pan created that lands in the hands of players is a gift to humanity. Thank you PANArtfor your original creation. You should be proud of the expansion of your creation and humble to the fact that this expansion is the magical nature of music and it is the same as with all instruments. I own one Symphonic Steel and one Shellopan and they each have a very different sound/tone and energy. I’m grateful for the many makers out there and for the global handpan community. I remember when there was a wait list of years to get a hang drum. Well now it’s easier to get a handpan and create healing magical music for all to hear. This is how it should be for eternity.

Brothers, you elevate me. It's very sad that money and greed have corrupted our beloved music. There are countless instrument makers in the world. Many of them have some proprietary designs that their employees sign contracts to protect. But you can't copyright an entire generic instrument! If I know my hand pan history, I don't believe PANart was even the source of the original designs. The enormous outpouring of love and music from these beautiful instruments and the resultant supporting global community cannot be suppressed. PANart's role in blazing the trail cannot be ignored. They should proudly stand in support of the the community they helped build. They may have a right to protect some of their designs, but they can't lay claim to the entire instrument itself. I'm sure some great lawyers out there will get everything straightened out. In the mean time, keep doing what you do! Much love.

It's a bit different, since pianos, violins, and guitars are hundreds to thousands of years old, while the handpan was invented 20 years ago with the inventors still living. However, with this community in existence and so many people around the globe already playing it, it seems quite unfair to claim copyright retrospectively and shutting down the already developed culture around the instrument.

Mich berühren diese Klänge so so sehr. Ich kenne kein anderes Instrument, das eine so zutiefst heilende Wirkung bei mir hat. Und euer Zusammenspiel ist etwas ganz besonderes. Dank euch spare ich jetzt auch auf eine Hand Pan. 1000 Dank, ich kann eigentlich gar nicht in Worte fassen wie dankbar ich für eure Musik bin.

I wanted to say that my mother showed me randomly one day and I listened for a few minutes with her. The part from 4:50 to 5:15 of the song resonated so strongly with me that I kept hearing it in my head for hours even after hearing only once.

This is an absolutely breathtaking instrument. I suffer from ADHD and this kept my undivided attention. Upon research of this instrument I realized how relatively new it is. I can understand why the creators would be frustrated HOWEVER, i agree with the idea that people should be allowed to create their own. This is music. Music is one of the oldest forms of self expression and self expression is all we have in this world. Apart from the love we share with the ones that are close to us. Humans have been inspiring each other for thousands of years, bouncing ideas off one another. We feed off each other and the energies that we put out into the world. A lot of great works have come from the inspiration of either something or someone outside of themselves. Idk, maybe it is all about the money, maybe they feel as if they must protect their creative character. I can understand why they might feel a little cheated. But I think they are looking at it the wrong way. What should be bringing people together has turned into another object of corporate greed. If anything i think they should get their design patented if they want to protect it. But making it illegal is just absurd! I wish everyone knew about this.

As for the PANArt copywrite issue...by the same reasoning all violins would be mere copies of the first violin ever created and same with all cellos or clarinets or trumpets or guitars....yet there are many companies making all these instruments and these “copies” are not illegal. The World is a better place having instruments. Music is an unstoppable healing force which is why so many people make instruments. The creation of the original Hang Drum was/is a gift to humanity and it is only normal as with all other instruments throughout time that other people have learned to make handpans. Each and every pan created that lands in the hands of players is a gift to humanity. Thank you PANArtfor your original creation. You should be proud of the expansion of your creation and humble to the fact that this expansion is the magical nature of music and it is the same as with all instruments. I own one Symphonic Steel and one Shellopan and they each have a very different sound/tone and energy. I’m grateful for the many makers out there and for the global handpan community. I remember when there was a wait list of years to get a hang drum. Well now it’s easier to get a handpan and create healing magical music for all to hear. This is how it should be for eternity.

Brothers, you elevate me. It's very sad that money and greed have corrupted our beloved music. There are countless instrument makers in the world. Many of them have some proprietary designs that their employees sign contracts to protect. But you can't copyright an entire generic instrument! If I know my hand pan history, I don't believe PANart was even the source of the original designs. The enormous outpouring of love and music from these beautiful instruments and the resultant supporting global community cannot be suppressed. PANart's role in blazing the trail cannot be ignored. They should proudly stand in support of the the community they helped build. They may have a right to protect some of their designs, but they can't lay claim to the entire instrument itself. I'm sure some great lawyers out there will get everything straightened out. In the mean time, keep doing what you do! Much love.

I was thinking the same thing...I mean, guitars aren't copyrighted?? So silly.
It's a bit different, since pianos, violins, and guitars are hundreds to thousands of years old, while the handpan was invented 20 years ago with the inventors still living. However, with this community in existence and so many people around the globe already playing it, it seems quite unfair to claim copyright retrospectively and shutting down the already developed culture around the instrument.
