Something I find important for my older girls boxes is reusable pads and few pairs of panties. Just like the school supplies in some of these countries it they don’t have them they can not attend school during that period. They are not the cheapest thing to include in the box but well worth it in my opinion.

I was feeling guilty/bad that I did not have a top or underwear for a child's box. I've watched several youtube video's to get ideas and want to thank you for your insight and practicality of literally 'keeping things simple'. The stress of thinking I needed to go to this store and that was resolved by your video. Whew! I can focus on having fun with what I currently have and the thought of just giving ;)

Wish I could get more in mine, but I might just have to fill two :-) I am filling a girl 5-9 box: Pink Sneakers (size 12) large coloring book Box of 32 crayons Pack of fun stickers 6 pairs of socks two small bars of soap folding brush/mirror dental floss pack of 6 toothbrushes (she can share :-) 4 thin washcloths
We have Team Hope shoeboxes that we fill here in Ireland but the very same idea. I think they went to Romania from my city of Dublin last year. My daughter helps me to choose great items for a girl her age. Her primary school collected all the boxes and it is €4 you add to the box here. We got most of the stuff in Dealz ( similar to Dollar tree) and we got a good quality woolly hat with bobble and diamanté’s in a different shop.
I remember your doing this during the toughest times of your debt free journey- it must be a nice reminder of where you've come from to keep up that thread of this tradition.
One thing that I include that I never see people put in their boxes are Happy Meal toys. And not just any Happy Meal toy, it has to be something really cool. And usually I take it out of the packaging. And if I leave it in the packaging I make sure to wipe it real well with rubbing alcohol to kill any germs. I find these all of the time in grab bags or at yard sales for less than a quarter. I've gotten some really cute dolls and my little ponies and cars this way.
I did a boy and girl 10-13. Both got skipping ropes, sunglasses, pencils, a torch, ponchos and a drink bottle(as well as other things I can't recall!). As I live in New Zealand, our cut off date was the end of October
Ive already start for the next 9 years (including this year) im ordering items from oriental trading company. Ive got to get 8 storage boxes to put everything for the next 8 years in them! I cant wait to start getting more items
Most people pick younger kids for these programs and the older kids don’t get much. I try to pick teenagers. Please put that information out there. Thank You.
An idea.maybe go all year getting small items for operation christmas child,rather than last minute. You may get better selection,lower prices,more items,plus,way less stress trying to get it all on no time
My cousin lived in Africa for church a few years ago... we would send him care packages, one day he begged us to stop. He explained that one care package was more things than many people over there owned. It was making people resent him for being "rich". He did ask for a seasoning packet from Top Roman in each letter... I guess people LOVED them and he could serve meals to all the locals with one. It really puts into perspective how different the world is over there.

Look up the the video "I was a Humanitarian.... And I regret it" it discusses this problem more. White savorism complex is real. They don't need saving or free toys/hygeine products. They are happy how they are. PLEASE LEAVE THEM ALONE.
@@rainbowflower8388 Well you can say that but he went to teach them to install water wells, saving them from walking 5 miles each ay to get dirty water. I think youd be hard pressed to find anyone who learned or in the village who felt like they were not better off now.
I dont like our local dollar general.they have a new manager.problem is they have carts of merchandise to be put out blocking aisles and shelves so cant nobody get diddly.every.single.employee.has complained.every customer has written corporate about this epic clusterfuck.they cant put anything in the back storage because aint no room.the old manager would never allow this
Please stop doing these kinds of "white savorism charity things" it does more harm them good and I encourage you to research humanitarian and why it's not as good and amazing as people may think.

Speaking of sewing kits; I know dollar general and family dollar have little mini sewing kits. I put those in my boxes every year.
