- My slow-dye method for dyeing wool yarn at home using a crockpot is designed to be a low-stress and relaxing experience. In the video, I demonstrate the process of dyeing these two skeins of Superwash Merino yarn. It's a fuss-free process, and you can always adjust it if the results don't meet your expectations.
I highly recommend a slow cooker for dyeing, especially if you are starting out. It takes the stress out of kettle or dip dyeing. You can walk away from it to perform other tasks and not worry about burning your fiber (or the house down!).
You can inexpensively obtain a crockpot from a hardware store or big box store on clearance or check thrift stores. Dyeing can be an inexpensive process if you are resourceful. Never use the same slow cooker for food.
For dyeing this yarn I dip one section at a time in the crockpot to dye. It's a very accurate and cost effective way to dye yarn. You can easily achieve a hand-dyed yarn while doing other tasks! :)

About me:
I'm a life-long maker and a fiber artist since 2012. I enjoy spinning and dyeing the most in my home studio in Nova Scotia, Canada.
I'm entirely self-taught, and my philosophy is that everyone should be an autodidact in at least one area of their life. Learning your own process without the expectations of the "right way" to do something creatively is very rewarding. Let me help you along your journey. But my processes are perfected for me; I hope you are inspired by my videos to take what works for you and reject or tweak the rest.
Thank you so much for checking out my video.
