1962 Chrysler 300H Letter Series Car Not a Clone

- 1962 Chrysler 300 H One of only 435 produced. The Chrysler 300 Society estimates that only 135 of these cars remain. The electro luminescent dash is a Chrysler innovation. The Golden Touch Scanning Radio was decades ahead of it's time. The 413 Max Wedge Motor was factory equipped with dual four barrel carburetors and a solid lift cam. This car could run down the 1962 Corvette with the air conditioner on full blast. One of the more striking features of this car is the front AND rear bucket seats and center consoles.
The back bucket seats on the old Chrysler’s were out of this world.
Cars were so stylish in the 50's & 60's ! This one's a beauty !
My dad brought one exactly like that in February 1962. Compared to mom and dads Imperials it was loud and fast. My dad always called it his hot rod Chrysler. He sold it in May 1973.
Thanks, interestingly, We got. 1959:DODGE CORONET 9:PASS WAGON/rear Face third Seats/ push Button/v8 (**/??ODDLY, I never looked much at Engine, other than taking Air Cleaner off for Drag Race….& series of three more Mopars:: my Close Grandfather did get a 1963/New Yorker ( a/c Delete, all baby BLUE), their last new Car &/. Pride & JOY: unfortunately He would never order a fancy 300 letter…OR a SALON New Yorker…..(* he surprised GRANDMOTHER with the 1963 new Car)…….. Anyways great time.. more about the Letter Chrysler?
Car looks like it just came off the showroom floor! Love the lipstick red color-very stunning. Those double buckets and consoles are way ahead of their time. (My 2004 Chrysler Pacifica had those). My first car was a 1963 Chrysler Newport Custom with 318 cu engine. It too was a wonderful car and had cold factory air (I owned it in 1972). That was when Mopar knew how to make great cars. (long before the mundane "K" cars).
I want a 300 letter car soooo bad! I don’t have the pockets. I’ve had a 69, a 70 and a 79 Chrysler 300, and loved them all! I’m looking for a 66. They are within my grasp!

My dad had a 300H, even the same color as this one but a black interior. He raced everybody with it. Of all the cars he owned, this is the one I most lust after.

My father had one in the late 70's. He bought it from a school teacher who was the original owner. It had a three speed transmission, no bucket seat, it had a bench seat. It also had a chrome roll bar just behind the front
seat. The roll bar was chrome , but it was padded where it came into contact with the headliner. He bought it for $250 in 1976, he drove it fo 8 or 9 years and sold it for $300. The lugs on the driverside of this car were left hand threads, and the lugs on the passenger side were right hand threads. It had leather upholstry, and was comfortable.
Perhaps one of the fastest and best handling big performance cars of its time ever!

At 2:06: One of the most beautiful and functional gauge clusters built anytime, anywhere. At night all the numbers and needles lit up in electroluminescent blue.
My dad bought the New Yorker version of this car. I remember the lighting as if it was yesterday. When he brought it home from the dealer, he took the family for a night drive. I was totally memorized by the dash board. Even as; a kid I was into cars and the manner of the gauge placement in a three dimensional view was amazing.
I agree. My Dad had a '62 and at night the gauge cluster was highly readable and stunningly beautiful, the dials bathed in an unearthly blue glow. I’ve still never seen anything to match it. I wonder why Chrysler didn’t stay with this futuristic design. But then again, Chrysler had a habit of abandoning their best ideas and betting the company on their worst ones.

A/C vents on top of the dash. That is different.
The rear was a carry-over from the ‘61 dodge, and they used it on the ‘62 880. That said, the 300’s lines flow better than the aforementioned.

Back when there was room to work in an engine bay. Now you have to disassemble everything just to change transmission fluid.
I believe it began with the 1959 Imperial. Why this system of dash lighting was abandoned after 1962, I have no idea.

I own a red1962 300 that runs great but needs to be restored. I bought it for $500.00 back in 1990. It's parked in my friends garage in Indiana.
I understand that the 1960 Imperial was the first car to use Sylvania's "Panelescent" five-layer EL technology in the dash.

We had one when I was a kid. My dad like cars. Ours was that candy apple red.
I had a Brit tell me that I was liar becasue I said that we had an American car of this vintage that would do over 150 that was stock.
We were coming home one night form a friend of my dad's. A little Austin Martin pulled up & wanted to race. Dad ran him up to 120 & that Austin didnt have anything left. So dad waved at him & left him in the dust. Mom kept screaming for dad to stop & let us out if he wanted to kill himself he could.
Dad took the car to the drag strip in Pittsburgh PA (PID) & ran it. It beat a ton of cars.
This brings back a ton of memories. I can still see my dad laughing while that jerk thought he could take us. The car road as well at over 100 as it did at 60.

What gas mileage does it get with what octane? What oil does it use? What range does it have on a tank of petrol? That dash looks like it came from a planet Zornex space cruiser.
Bill Bright The dash illumination for these cars was unique. It is more like neon than the incandescent bulb style lights
This car should use high octane fuel. If you behave you might get 12 miles per gallon or 19 kilometers from 4 liters of fuel.

That was a real 300 H. Today's 300 is a clunky junky imitation. Must have a 413 Dual Ram engine. Fire engine red? Why not.

my very first car was 63 300 matter of fact I had 3 crysler other were 67 Newport &a72 new yorker Brougham Ieft crysler and bought 73 Lincoln Continental Ieft crysler because crysler was behind the time color were not hear at time and if wanted to stereo n the dash it was hard to do because both radio nobs were on same side just like these new dodge 4 door charger/300 l don't like the charger crysler need give the it own personality it was back n 60&70

Eric s At age 15 I took my mother's '62 Chrysler Windsor (Canadian model) without permission and went for a late night spin on a winding country road. I ended up losing control in a corner and going over a small cliff. No injury, despite not using a seatbelt. But the car was a write-off. As you can imagine I was deeply in shit for quite some time. Got charged and paid a $15 fine for driving without a license. My old man talked the cops out of more serious charges. Why did I crash? I froze up mid-way through a corner the car could easily have managed. Never again did I make that mistake.
Seems like all the dual belt Chryslers always done that when the A/C was on,My 1970 did it too
