Vermilion is the set 1st boss in the game. He is an unlockable playable character.
===== HOW TO UNLOCK VERMILION =====
Beat Arcade mode using Nagisa. Once you've done that, Vermilion will be available above Nagisa on the character select screen.
===== ABOUT VERMILION =====
In BAT3, he is hired by the Organization / Soshiki and is the second-in-command to the organization's leader, Abel. After Eiji and his friends eliminated the group, Vermilion has sworn revenge against Eiji.
Design-wise, being very tall is one of Vermilion's trademarks... he towers over everyone else bar Nagisa and Tau. Personally, I think BAT3 has the best rendition of him.
===== GAMEPLAY =====
As a firearms user he is obviously based on long-range tactics, although he does have some basics for close-range combat. If he is low on or out of ammo, you can reload one shot of each firearm at a time which leaves him open. His crouching kicks (which are rolls into kicks) inflict good life depletion, and should be used regularly.
===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION =====
---- His personal boss and counterpart is Nagisa.
---- Despite being a "regular" sub-boss, he is actually one of the main sub-bosses, because as a CPU opponent, he always appears near the end of the route (usually before the player character's personal boss). He is also the character you need to unlock Sho with.
===== ABOUT BAT3 =====
BAT3's fighting environments opts for a walled field of play rather than an open field ring in the prequels. This obviously means that there are no ring outs anymore, and instead loads of clashes, slams and rebounds. The speed of the gameplay is definitely faster and it is far more hectic than the prequels, with more combo possibilities in strings and juggles.
Each regular character has a "personal boss" which can be unlocked by completing Arcade mode with him/her. The personal bosses are semi-clone counterparts of the regular characters with some differences in gameplay.

That puppet master super is tight.
22:25 was cute. 22:50 and 23:30 is interesting. 24:19 - 21 was rather amusing. 25:49 hmm. Neat. I would have never thought of that. Now the question is how high.

Eiji scream at 11:15 is the best. What a memories playing this game during summer with my friends here in Argentina. Balga Mondo and toujin were some of my favs characters also Eiji.
I only played this by myself as a kid, but the voice acting for this game was really good. They actually sounds like people with real emotions, not cheesy (for the most part).

Probably because it was trying to do a “Soft Reboot” approach and they wanted to scale back on the amount of characters as well…

Yeah, I really did not like the sequel to this game.
The one problem I had with this one was that some of the super moves did really low damage
