- Tsultrim Norbu is a Tibetan artist who has been creating colorful thangka paintings of Buddha and Buddhist deities for over 20 years. Unlike other artists, he specializes in using the Cloisonné technique, creating works out of gold wires and pigment ink made from Tibetan stones, giving each piece a vivid and stately look.

I can't imagine growing up without access to paper. Drawing in dirt and on stones shows how strong his desire to create was as a youngster. Not sure why this video showed up in my feed, but I'm sure glad it did.

When young children learn minority art creation, they are boring and unhappy at the beginning and don't like it
A friend of mine sponsored a Uyghur teenager to study with a carver master in Beijing, but he gave up after a year of study, he felt very boring
Later, he got a job in a Uyghur restaurant, and he hoped to make money immediately,

My dad, when he was going to high school in the late ‘70s, didn’t have much money and couldn’t afford paper for class. He would take the thrown away paper from a dumpster and just write on the back.

I love thangka paintings, especially on cotton and silk canvas, the older ones with faded, aged colors. You can find several in museums, private collections and specialty stores in Kathmandu. This particular technique is beautiful. I love Asian art in general, paintings, sculptures in stone, wood, metals and butter, sand mandalas, music, architecture of temples and monasteries

This is by far one of my favorite Goldthread videos, I was just looking for different art to put in my office workspace since working from home. Absolutely stunning pieces and the craftmanship and patience is astounding.

I have never heard about this technique in my life and I am absolutely amazed! The amount of patience and love it takes to make such a painting, the colors are STUNNING. Thank you for brining attention to these kind of art techniques!

It was really popular among the northern tribes of medieval Europe (like the early Vikings). I used to teach about it in Humanities, so when this popped up in my feed I was super interested and, like you, glad I watched.

I like how he's traditional, but decided to incorporate a new technique. Most traditional thanka painters would not be so bold. Its all about honoring Buddha and making the Buddha shine even brighter! Kudos!

I have never seen cloisonné tangkas! And they are unbaked- did not know you could do that with cloisonné pigments. They are beautiful! Making tangkas seems like a spiritual work of its own

It is extremely beautiful and unlike any other paint pigments you'd have ever seen.
I hope the camera man/crew, gets more angles like the latter. These godly arts deserve more recognition.

I’m so glad there are people like him who have so much more patience than me, so they can make beautiful things like this.
His Mandarin is so clear and nice to listen to, usually the different Chinese communities shown sound more unique but harder to understand.
As a young teen in the 80s I took a Cloisonne class at the community center one summer. It was a lot of fun and I especially liked the candy/gem look of bigger chunks of glass when they melted. This guy is really amazing!

Imhave a thangka painting myself. It was given to me by a friend who visited a thangka painter and buddhist in his country. I gave the thangka painting a very special place. On the side of its back there is even a written blessing.

I'm not inspired by many videos these days, cynical old devil that I have become. But this one hit the spot. As an artist myself I have so many questions about the process, the materials, the subject.... what I wouldn't give to sit down with this man one day and ask them all!

Wonderful work, such masterful skill, such concentration, and to work on representations of one's diety is an honour for the artist. Their concentration was so focussed and the quality of their work is so good. I would love to go and learn from such a master. Also, when he was walking along outside, he looked so peaceful and so happy, it was wonderful to see.

I always thought Cloissonné was done [ indeed] with copper / gold metal wires and than filled with Enamel powder of different colours and when its ready it went into the oven to bake ! But this non baked variation is also very beautiful, ideed !!
Yes, I also thought it would be baked.
At the end he said that painting wasn't ready yet, and need about 6 months more, so maybe it will be backed at end. Or he is just using self curing binder (chemical reaction and/or solvent evaporation). But backing is bit risky too as things can look different after backing. And backing can fail sometimes.
@@extended_e Thank you for your extra info. I don't think he'll bake it, because the metal wires were glued in stead of solded.
@@43painter yeah, all wires should move when glue fails in high temperature, expected if it is something exotic. When it cools glass enamel would hold everything really well. Also if wires have no tension, then they wouldn't move during baking, only external forces would move them (enamel boiling, pressure from too much enamel on one side, titling in oven, etc). But you are most likely right about no baking.

Você pode encontrar várias em museus,coleções particulares e lojas especializadas em Kathmandu. Essa técnica em particular é belíssima. @@latitudeselongitudes1932 J'ai pratiqué un peu la peinture chinoise, j'adore la calligraphie, je dirais que c'est presque une philosophie : se vider la tête et se laisser emporter par le pinceau, merveilleux. J'aime également la musique classique Chinoise, Japonaise, Vietnamienne, ces musiques me transportent, me font rêver, l'Asie quelle merveille ! Il faudrait toute une vie pour découvrir tout ce que l'on veut découvrir.
