Sometimes, fractions are simplified by writing some factors of Nr and Dr. and cancelling common factors. Eg. 20/35= 5×4/7×5= 4/7.

Hello! I am currently having issues with this order of operations/fraction problem. It is:
2 3/4 - 3 3/8 ÷ 4 1/2. It went pretty well at first. That was until I got it wrong twice that I realized I didn't know where to simplify or how to simplify the following fractions. (please read the following)
I converted the mixed numbers into improper fractions: 11/4, 27/8 9/2 . I also did the order of operations in the correct order. I multiplied 27/8 × 2/9 to get 54/72. I didn't realize that I needed to simplify at this point before subtracting the 11/4 followed by the current multiplied/divided fraction and also I don't know HOW to simplify 54/72 as the problem equals to a whole number once you subtract 11/4 as a hint. I would like some advice on how to solve 2 3/4 - 3 3/8 ÷ 4 1/2 That would be greatly appreciated.
