Love the new channel! The batteries clearly aged way too fast. LiFePO4 batteries are supposed to last a long time. I wonder what Battleborn has to say about that.
Hey! I like the way Brett constantly just work towards the solution without dropouts. He never lose it. Just solve the problem with what it takes. (To look at a problem like it’s a living thing is devastating and contagious. ) That’s not this guys thing. That’s what’s admirable. Many brothers lose temper... That’s something I learn not to do. Brett is a raw model in every situation. That’s his strength and trick to succeed. That’s how he became a pilot. He is a doer. Rock on 🤘
I would credit that to his pilot training. As a commercial pilot you are trained to take every challenge and problem and work through to options to find a solution. Doing nothing is not an option.
OK, just a quick word on the Ninja double oven. We live in a travel trailer and got tired of fighting with the gas oven. It was so small you couldn't even put a small cake pan in it, if you got it started. My wife decided to bite the bullet and try the ninja. We Love it!!! We use it just like a regular oven and so far it has beaten our expectations!!! Enjoy my friends, y'all did good!!
we have an OSTER TOASTER OVEN with the double doors.... it has a BUMP OUT BACK to fit a 16 inch pizza and it will fit a 9x13 baker if it is HANDLELESS well not flat outward streatching handles... ;) BUT IT FITS A 9x9 brownie pan with the PERFECK amount of space around it!@!! LOL Ninja's usually are good stuff tho too ;) we would have a NINJA blender if we didn't have a VITAMIX already ;0 sniker, VITAMIX THERE IS A DIFFERENCE !!!!! *I* was told to stay with the VITAMIX's with the 1 thru 10 dial and the HIGH/LO .... and PULSE switchs...... NOT THE ONES THAT HAVE ALL THE PRESETS but that was a few years ago they said the presets have issues before the basic 1 to 10 dial ones do ;) we got a 7 year warrentee that was doubled ... we didn't need to use it... still working GREAT !: )
Well done Brett. You have just proved to all of us that jobs always seem to take longer than expected (not just ours). I like your logical thinking in problem solving. You can't be an expert in all things but working through them systematically and carefully many projects can be very successful and satisfying.
Projects on boats are what got me hooked on the sailing channels (the sailing and bikinis were an added bonus 😂), so this is a great idea, Good luck with the new channel 👊🏻
Oh, this is great! I also want to get away from our propane stove/oven in our 2002 Malö 45 classic but we need to boost our lithium bank first. So please come back with some consumption numbers when you’ve used you new stove/oven. Our 2 goldens sends kisses to your dogs, they love seeing them.
Hats of Brett on a concise, to the point video that's full of information but not repetitive. I would say when a 20 min video seems like 5, You are doing something right. CU next time from So Calif.
Brett, I love your stuff. Notice the problem. Isolate the contributors. Find a solution. I'm an old engineer. I did this for 45 years... hell, I'm still doing it. I respect what you do 'cuz I get it. I've seen every episode and I can't tell you how much I admire how you and Jade "get it done". Best of good luck. Fair winds and following seas.
Consider EG4 48 volt waterproof server rack batteries for next exchange. Having multiple bms batteries paralleled together is very problematic. Pluss they cost $1200 for 400 amp/hr , and 48volt batteries paralleled work wonderful. You will need a new inverter but that's only a grand as well and will charge faster than the 12 volt one , and optionally will accept 120volt and 220 volt universal power. Cheers and fair winds Steve h
Brett, the green stuff you saw on copper is essentially malachite (copper+co2+water). it is not like regular iron corrosion and only grows on places exposed to co2(usually regular air), no need to worry as much as iron corrosion for sealed copper.
Ok Brett, I watch a lot of sailing channels. I've been waiting for someone to make a "Just fixing things channel" this is perfect. Keep it up, deep dive into the systems, figure it out and make it better. totally loving it!!!!
Thank you Brett for taking this "leap of faith" in starting a new channel devoted to those of us that are Techies at heart. You've got me hooked already! Loved the format and including contributions from Jade will always be a winner! (I actually Lol'd at the getting the butt shot segment!!) :-) Already eager for the next episode! Richard(UK)
You don't know how glad I am you started this channel. 😊 I've enjoyed all the projects and boat rebuilding. Now I'll get to see the more technical stuff. Looking forward to it!😊
Hi. I've been following you since you two bought Eva. I've watched you do lots and lots of projects, so here I am. This is just another part of this journey you have shared with us. Good luck. I hope it's something you enjoy and people show up to enjoy it with you.
Awesome stuff. Hope Battle Born takes care of you. Couple questions about your alt charging. Are you happy with your Balmar setup? When warm how many amps are you getting at idle and again at 1500? Did you derate the alt any for less current and longer life? What gauge wire did you run for your alt output and ground?
Love this! The boat projects are always my favorites! I also appreciate you dumbing it down and explaining things for us non-sailors/engineers. Keep it up!

Really good first ‘Brett fixes broken stuff’ video. It’s interesting because I have a hobby farm, which means I’ve always got things needing fixed, finished, replaced, upgraded, etc. Not so different on your boat other than the kind things you’re working on.
This is a great idea for a channel. I like how you speak out the thought process. It helps for a better understanding. Don't pay any attention to negative comments IF you get any at all. Everyone has an opinion. I'm dealing with battery issues myself. Thanks again.

Hey Brett, often on modern electronic washing machines there will be a diagnostic mode you can put it in that will tell you what the problem is, or at least it might put you on the right track. If you can't get hold of the service manual maybe the manufacturer can give you some information on how to read diagnostic codes. Love the new channel, looking forward to your resolution of these problems. From the looks of your washer drain and your comment about the filter material, I see more projects ahead in the very near future. I'm looking forward to your investigation as to why the battery performance is so poor, even if you are taxing them with heavy use I would expect them to perform much better than they are. Your new electric oven seems like it will be a good fit, both physically as well as efficient use of power, a propane leak can be devastating, even more so on a boat at sea.
Hey Brett really good video this channel is going to be awesome . Very interesting with oven/ washer/ Batteries and so much more to be done I'm sure. This is a Sailor's Life. Looking forward to next video
This is going 2b a great channel for the boating warriors of the world!!! (below decks, anyway❤) One question tho - how will you fight off sea monsters now with no propane to MacGyver into a FLAMETHROWER! 😂

Hi 👋, Brett , That was a great start to your Engineering shop, Adventure, in your water supply, I presume you’ve got charcoal filters, is it possible they are degrading, And your water purification system is not working correctly, As I presume you’re taking water from the sea and going through purifier, a friend of mine in the UK, brought a ninja air cooking device last year, and they very rarely use their main oven, they cook 24 seven using the ninja, they swear by it, a great bit of kit, I am thinking of approaching scene one myself, hopefully in a few weeks time as I live by myself, Please be very careful choosing your batteries, people say that lithium batteries are not dangerous, but they are, There is a company called Port 32, and there is quite a few others, all given relative good information about these type of batteries, Concern about insurance , I think I noticed somebody else passing comment, that the batteries had to be installed by a professional, I’m not saying you’re not a professional, but it might be worth enquiring before you go and do the job, And there has been a huge amount of vehicles catching fire, worth having a look on TH-cam if you know what that program is😂, stay safe keep up the great work very very interesting,
I like this part of the show. Glad you started it as a separate entity. I fly for a living, 15 on 13 off flying a Falcon 50, but I have been wrenching on stuff since I got my first motorcycle at 10 yrs. old. I have tools to fix tools. I saw you using some cool tools a while back that I had to have as well. Gat a motorhome I am putting Battle Born batteries in and the whole solar setup. I think those have a 10 year warrenty so they should replace them, shipping might suck though. Keep up the good work, love it!!
Hey Brett, the achiever in me wants to make sure we get closure on each project. We see you have bad batteries, let us know if they were under warranty, or if they met their life expectancy, and you had to buy new ones. Please include the stove and cooktop next steps, or at least show us the finished results. Looks like you need to filter the water going into the washer, please let us know if you do anything there. Enjoyed the first video. Thanks.
Congratulations on the first video on your new channel. Good job. Looks like a lot of material for the foreseeable future videos is readily available. Nice. Keep 'em coming.
Great in-depth work Brett. modern-day logistics with systems can be quite intimidating, I used to be in Geophysics, but that was in the 70s before, the early arrival of digital! Different beast now. Good analytics are the answer, and I see you have the tech brain, alright.
Wow, the first boat to have more capacity than I do hear at home. Reason for that is I built my batteries from the Blue Cell Packs. 1300 amp hours at 12v ( 15,600 watt hours) One of the problems with the US type tanks is that they have an O ring just inside the fitting where you connect your hose. That O ring can crack, or just somehow dissapear, and that tank will leak at the fitting. If your like me you'll think its something to do with the threads on the hose to the tank, or who knows what, until you look in there and notice the O ring (first you have to understand it needs one) is missing. O rings require maintenance, they need a coating of silicone grease so they stay "fat" and pliable, and so that they will allow things to slide by them, and so they will seal. I wouldn't be surprised that Euro tanks type fittings need o rings, and the older US tanks probably do.
Absolutely love you guys, I'm excited for this new channel as I'm a jack of all trades type of person (love to fix stuff) So this is best of both worlds for me "favorite" sailing couple with an engineering twist! Looking forward to the next video. 🤗
Have watch all of your video's and have enjoyed all. Jade is a real trooper! Your current addition engineering is a great idea. Watching the first installment leaves me with one suggestion, don't take on too many projects in one episode. One you may run out material and two you can go into just a little more detail. Hang in there you are a great couple. PS: i too am a pilot but not active now. also 83 years old and a very active DIYer...
I was just watching the episode when you were installing a new mattress in the master. The wet is condensation...R/Ver"s use a special "mat" under the mattress to alow air movement. May help
I'm curious to hear what BattleBorn come back to you with if youve contacted them. In Australia comparitive quality batteries have a 5-7 year warranty so i hope Battleborn will stand behind their product.
It's obvious this is not degradation but faulty cells which is even more unacceptable considering the prices. Just another reason to buy grade A cells + a BMS and assemble your own battery at literally half the cost...
@@BilldalSWE More than likely it is a big imbalance which the BMS cannot keep up with. With no Bluetooth, there is no way to see it happening and take the needed steps to correct it. This is why I would never buy a Battle Born {or Dakotat Lithium] battery.
52% in a few years is scary… installation looks spot on with the Lynx power in, and equal length cables, no reason why these wouldn’t be covered by warranty. But what happens in a few years when your warranty replaced batteries fail? Will they give those a full warranty? A good quality lithium battery should be good for 10+ years with a pretty deep cycle every day. Very concerning. Sailing Uma is in the process of ditching their battle born batteries as well. Very interested to see how they handle this warranty claim…
You guys were my 1st sailing channel! Subscribed to Evans years ago, kinda fell away after you splashed. I enjoyed the DIY more than the sailing. I watch Mads, Yaba, lots of others like that, but not the big sailing ones, cuz I like this stuff more!! Im an Alaskan watching from Kazakhstan. Gonna subscribe now!
I love this technical side , well done Brett!
Love the new channel!
The batteries clearly aged way too fast. LiFePO4 batteries are supposed to last a long time. I wonder what Battleborn has to say about that.
I love to see the other side of living in a small space and having to fix things with what you have. Great first episode!
Oh my!!!! Going to enjoy this new channel. Thanks for taken us along. As old mechanical engineer this is the BEST !!

Battle Born LiFePO4, batteries have 5 or 10 year warranty depending on the model.
I’m pretty shocked that those batteries have failed so soon.
fun fact: propane fixings are made out of brass which don't spark so the corrosion isn't as bad as you would think

Great in-depth work Brett. modern-day logistics with systems can be quite intimidating, I used to be in Geophysics, but that was in the 70s before, the early arrival of digital! Different beast now. Good analytics are the answer, and I see you have the tech brain, alright.
I like your videos. Love figuring out how to fix things. Keep em coming
Love the new channel. Keep the projects coming!
I like videos very much like these as I am a retired elect. / mech. engineer.
Wow, the first boat to have more capacity than I do hear at home. Reason for that is I built my batteries from the Blue Cell Packs. 1300 amp hours at 12v ( 15,600 watt hours)
One of the problems with the US type tanks is that they have an O ring just inside the fitting where you connect your hose.
A great number one video Brett! I love this kind of stuff!
Cant wait to see more
Awesome episode!!!
Awesome video guys!!! Your doing a great job on your new videos man! See y'all next time.
Good video Bret. As an old electronic tec. I will enjoy your channel.
Nice!
I was just watching the episode when you were installing a new mattress in the master. The wet is condensation...R/Ver"s use a special "mat" under the mattress to alow air movement. May help
Awesome
Well, you got me here also. Twice as much to watch now! Thanks
enjoyed watching you attack the issues presented...will definitely continue to watch
Awesome first episode! Looking forward to more of it!
My name is Bret too! Fun video thanks
Love the new channel. Your systematic approach is awesome.
Love the new channel, thanks Brett
I'm curious to hear what BattleBorn come back to you with if youve contacted them. In Australia comparitive quality batteries have a 5-7 year warranty so i hope Battleborn will stand behind their product.
As a long time watcher and a retired engineer I love the new channel !. Keep up the great sailing channel though.
Down to 52% in a couple of years? That’s scary considering the prices. Interested to know about the warranty and how they deal with you.
Great new channel. I certainly enjoyed the presentation (same as I have been on your other channel). Thanks very much!
