We are proud to sell this amazing Reptile Lighting Lamp that gets top scores for both brilliant light intensity and for superior UVB/UVA output.
This reptile bulb will help your reptile to assimilate calcium, enable proper sleeping and feeding behavior as well as increased coloration. Powersun bulbs have been touted by veterinarians to aid in the treatment for metabolic bone disease but using this bulb is an excellent method to prevent your reptile from acquiring this debilitating disease.

very informative video thanks I was wondering about the diference with or with out the screen. I purchased the 100 watt version for my baby green iguana sounds like this is miles better than the compact florescent that I used with my last iguana thanks again!
Thanks for the reply. I bought 1 of theese bulbs today for my panther chameleon and were the bulb is give the perfect temp i needed any way, but thanks for clearing it up.
@SCM100100 Sure, these and the Sunforce bulbs are very good for UV production.
You have to figure it is done by 8 months although we generally say replace at 6 months.
@BLown05Navigator Thanks, just to let you know our Sunforce Bulbs came in yesterday and should be up on our website for sale by Thursday August 18.
@BLown05Navigator I would recommend you watch the Sunforce video as we do testing in the video which will clue you in as to the differences of these bulbs. Both brands are quality units.
@ThatReptileDude No, but you could use a mini-deep dome which we sell on our website.
@BBoys315 No, you'll want to purchase the extra deep domes that are specially made for them. There is a video on those on our website as well. Note that we sell the Powersun at about 30 to 40% less expensive than the average pet store. As well, we also have our own brand if you are price sensitive.
@BigApplePetSupply. Thank you for your reply. I understand.
@BLown05Navigator ZooMed requires all warranty issues on this bulb to be handled directly through them. They are very good about handling the warranty.
Ok I was wondering cause I had a bearded dragon but had to sell him now I wanna get a reptile again I would like to try a frilled dragon and been doing research on them..so as long as the basking spot and the over all temps are good I can use just a powersun I've also been thinking about using the tubes as well
Possibly, give us a call... we are in NY so it is next day delivery.
@HannersHD What would be the reason for not being able to use the bulb with a thermometer, that doesn't seem to make sense since the thermometer will be able to sense the heat. You can also use something like our infrared temp gun to check the surface temperature.
Can this be used for aquatic turtles?
@narutofroever We agree which is why we discount the bulbs almost 40% at Big Apple Pet Supply. Since we ship to everywhere it means that everyone can get great discounts on these bulbs. Just click the link below the video. We also have other lower cost (our brand) mercury vapor bulbs.
@BigApplePetSupply ok thanks! I just might order some stuff off of the website!
This is the latest version of the solarmeter and you can buy it directly from us.
I just ordered the 100 watt version, but i heard some people say that the new version of the powersun bulbs dont provide as much UVB as they did before in the past. Now i dont know if this is true but ive heard it from a few people, they also said that the 10.0 compact emits more UVB then the powersun of which i was confused about since the powersun should produce a very good deal of UVB.
I have a tank with a red-ear slider in it. does this light help reduce algae and have a clear tank??
Thank you for this great video. Is it OK to use a big dome with the ceramic top from Home Depot or Walmart ? Ho may months can I keep this bulb if the Lizard is burmating/hibernating over the winter time ?
In the netherlands we don't has screen tops but fittings in the terrarium so we don't Need pricy deep domes. But because its in the terrarium can it get(my beardie) to Mutch uv light?
Is it good to use a Thermostat just to control the heat...and also do thermostats work with Regular Heat bulbs for at night
@Squwigy Absolutely, see the video on the mini domes where we explain this.
Thank you. And for for the Zoo Med ReptiCare Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter, do I get a 100 watt or a 150 watt? (For a bearded dragon) Thanks!
Hi there! I'm planning to buy the Powersun MercuryVapor bulb from you guys and I was wondering which do I need? A 100 wattt or a 160 watt? I have a 40 gallon breeder tank. The height is about 17-18 inches tall.
Thanks so much! Your videos have been extremely helpful!
I have a 100 gallon reptarium for my chameleon and I was wondering if I should get a 100 watt or a 160 watt
Are these bulbs also good for plants inside a terrarium?
It's possible to get too much, yes! Use wisely!
Ok. I will monitor UV levels prior to ordering my iguana! Thanks!
do ya have to use a dome what is the good points/bad points in using a dome
i have a argentine B/W Tegu in tank with screen top which one should i use?...100w or 160w he is about 13 inches under the basking spot.....i can always raise his basking spot higher...
Yes, that will work and don't forget we have a 5% Low Price Guarantee!
Also want to add that most MVB dont work well on Cheap Dimmers. So it can be hard to obtain a proper heat/UVB combo with hot The Gas heats. If its going to be hard your best to buy a heat bulb and uvb bulb and do so separate.
Solar glo work just as well
@txrepgirl This bulb is ONLY warrantied by Zoo Med in their Extra Deep Dome which is located in the May We Recommend section on the page that we sell the Powersun Bulb. If you use a Walmart dome you will lose the warranty.
Should I use a 160 watt for a blue tongue skink tank, it's 4ft and 16.14 inches high, and it the bulb would be within the cage
Hey i have a question my tank is 18 inches high so what would happing if my bearded dragon climbs up on his stick to get closer to the bulb?
Depends on the animal but probably 160 but if a lower UVB needing reptile than 100.
Hi, what kind of bracket is that?
Hi Just a quick question what wattage Mercury Vapor bulb would I need for a repti breeze 2ft x 2ft x 4ft screened cage cheers Lee
I have a normal cage with a top but not a screen cage so i have ceramisch fitting IN my terrarium and with my wood the beardie is around 4,5 inch from my lamp right now i have a solar raptor is it a problem when hè go to bask and i have a powersun? Can That by to Mutch uvb?
is it good for a savannah monitor?
They sale those in the lighting aisle at Walmart is it the same thing?
Could you send one of these bulbs to a hotel that i'm staying in that's in new york ?
@bigapplepetsupply i was thinking of purchasing one of these lights for my chameleon but i heard that you cannot use these bulbs with a thermometer, so was wondering how i would monitor the tempreture of the bulb to see if my chameleon is getting the right heat. If you could get back to me ASAP i would be gratefull
I'm asking because i'm getting a Blue Tongue Skink and Wanted to make sure he don't get To Hot...Any Suggestions would Help...
Located in Long Island... go to our website and we ship all over the U.S. but you can pickup from our Long Island Warehouse if you like.
@KUNGFUTYLER Anything that produces light you would only want running during the day as to not disturb the day/night cycle of your reptile.
hey dose eney body know how to heat a baby iguana when power is out and it is winter
So for an exotic terra 36x18x36 what wattage would you suggest? after watching this it sounds like a 160.. however I recieved an email from you guys a few days ago recommending a 100 Watt. Just wanna make sure!
I bought the 160W bulb around 2 1/2 years ago and it's still functional.
I have already exchanged one bulb and so far this new bulb is acting the same. The bulb doesn't always turn on and sometimes it goes out. I have tried the bulb in other light fixtures and other lights in the original light fixture and the same results..other bulbs work in all fixtures
Hmmm... are you using a Deep Dome Fixture by Zoo Med? Also, what wattage are you using?
What type of solar meter do you use in the vid?? And where can I buy one?
Thanks, I presume your located in Manhattan, if so where in Manhattan are you located ?
These bulbs give off good UVA , UVB , but if you use a dimmer thermostat and it turns down the bulb does this decrease the amount of UVA, UVB ?
Do you think that a 100 watt would be ok in a zoo med mini deep dome? If i want to place it on top of the screen.
You dont want them turning on and off as i will shorten the bulbs lifespan. Best bet is to raise the fixture to achieve the temps you need, or use a Rehostat aka dimmer. This will only reduce the power to the bulb without making it turn on and off.
What's the truthful advantages of these bulbs? I have a savannah monitor, purchased this bulb for daytime use and paired it with an infrared bulb for 24/7 use to achieve ideal temps. I have gone through so many of these insanely expensive 60$ bulbs. Both of my types of bulbs last maybe two months max. After having spent 240$ on bulbs for a 20$ lizard I adore I'm looking at other options. This bulb style provides uva/uvb. But it would be far cheaper to buy a uva bulb and a uvb bulb and have them on the same time. I've even considered the hardware store bulb hack as they are made more durable and have a much longer longevity for nearly 10% the price. Could you help me with this problem?
How can you tell the uvb stops working?
will the 100 watt fit in the 5.5 inch zoomed deep dome
Yes
Is UVB only enough or both with UVB and UVA?
If I use the 160 watt PowerSun bulb along with the Zoo-Med Repti Sun T5 10.0 HO bulb, would it provide a sufficient amount of UV and heat for an iguana? Thanks!
P.S I need some advice on how to provide enough humidity for an iguana in a HUGE cage. Any help would be much appreciated!
Dude get a mega ray
common musk turtles and snapping turtles dont need UVA or UVB right? ive read on some websites
I checked the website but I can't find any solar meters
What wattage should I use for a Red Eared Slider basking area?
Depends on your enclosure size and distance your animal will be from the bulb.
Is this the only light you will need on the tank?or should you still have another low wattage heat bulb on the tank for durning the day?
A lot depends on that but mostly through checking your temps
Yes Damien Blascyk, the 100 watt powersun will fit in the mini deep dome. We carry both and offer a 5% price guarantee!!!
hey I have a red-ear slider in a tank that's cloudy would this light reduce the algae and have a much clearer tank?
Actually more light and heat will cause Algae blooms. But there are water treatments that kill algae.
BigApplePetSupply is the mini deep dome gonna over heat the bulb ???
Not a 100 watt it won't.
Which is better for my iguana ? My other bulb blew up
Mega ray bulb
Could the 100 watt bulb go in a 8.5 zoo med clamp lamp?
Mason Cheney Absolutely not, only the mini deep dome or regular deep dome by Zoo Med. The new 70 watt mega-ray bulbs that we just got in that are amazing will though. They are the smallest mercury vapor bulb made! And the UV is fantastic on them.
i get a higher and better reading from the solar glo bulbs
how hot does a 100 watt mv bulb get....
and how hot does a 160 watt bulb get
You can't use a dimmer on a MVB bulb... it will ruin it. UVB and Heat always separate if the MVB bulb can't produce enough for the enclosure on its own.
are these bulbs any good for russian tortoises?they are housed in a tortoise table. thanks
Is it ok to have just the uvb bulb I am reading now to only use uvb tube lights? We just got this same light now worried and confused
One light is fine as long as your heat level is fine in your basking area.
Steven Spitz his cage is only at 95 degrees in his basking area should I add another heat source and we think he has mbd because of how he is acting so trying to get uvb rays up some how
What’s the temperature output at 12 inches for the 100watt bulb? Want to know what temp the basking spot would be at around a foot away
Highly variable depending on the room temperature, the type of enclosure and the type of bulb and housing for the bulb.
It’s winter in New York. Cool house but comfortable. 36 inch tall enclosure. Using 100w powersun bulb. I raised the dome a few inches so the basking spot is 12-13 inches away but it seems like the basking spot may be too cold now. Tough to gauge but I don’t want to bring it too close because of over exposure to uvb worries me. Just wondering if you think the temp under the basking is probably okay...
man we need these bulbs in 50 and 75 watts
If I purchase this bulb will I also have to purchase a Fluorescent bulb?
Alex Bates No, these are an all in one bulb and you can check out the MegaRay brand on our website as well.
@iguanasrule1 You can't, it could be used and have no UV. This is something so important to your reptile that you never want to purchase it from a non-legitimate source.
Can I use the 160 on my bearded dragon his set up is 48inches long and 18 wide and 18 high and he'd be 10 to 11 inches away from it on his basking spot
Yes, that would be fine.
+BigApplePetSupply or the 100 watt
160 for that cage is good and don't forget we have free shipping and guaranteed lowest price!
Hi Daniel, use a Sunforce or Powersun bulb but make sure your dragon can only climb within 8 inches directly under the bulb. Remember we have FREE Shipping, Same Day Shipping & Guaranteed Low Price!
100 Watt for sure and remember we have same days shipping and low price guarantee!
Can a thermostat be used with this
It can be done if you dont use cheap retail dimmers. So long you know the wattage needed to get the Mercury gas heated it will work fine. Ive done it but its not cheap if your not good with electrical work. DIm it too much and it wont do anything
How high does the 100watt bulb have to be in order to reach around the high 80s to low 90s??? I am planning to get one for an aquatic turtle. How far does it have to be for an aquatic turtle to to have the perfect amount of UV and heat?
+Vincent Huang That's difficult to say because your environment and the type of enclosure makes a difference. Generally speaking it's better if you call us or send an email to us detailing what you have and what you want to accomplish. Don't forget we have the low price guarantee and free shipping as well!
I am planning to get one of those zoo med kits for my baby turtles. They come with a mercury vapor bulb, I was wondering the distance from it to the basking area.
The Zoo med Tubs
You cannot use a dimmer on a gas bulb, it will either ruin the bulb or just shut it immediately down. These bulbs are NOT incandescent bulbs which can dim down, a gas bulb is either fully on or off.
steve pacman?
The 100 watt powersun you can, not the 160 watt. We ship orders same day and offer a low price guarantee!
Do they actually contain mercury?
Yes
Not even close, although mercury vapor bulbs the ones at walmart have zero UVA and UVB.
Power sun lamps are weak compared to mega ray. They degrade rapidly and after 6 months produce less UVB than I expected. I was shocked after measuring with my solarmeter 6.2
And your advice?
Go with the 160 if it is a bearded dragon.
You should change it out every 6 to 8 months.
How do you just turn off the uvb
You can't there's no switch for UV, the bulb just has UVB and UVA
So at night you just turn the whole thing off?
Disagree... my testing as indicated on my Solar-Glo review shows differently.
That's fine but you know 8 months is the max that the UVB will still be emitting from the bulb.
Why are they so expensive??? I mean almost 80$ for a reptile bulb is just insane! i want to buy one for my monitor lizard but I just dont have the money for one bulb:( I have to stick with the basking bulb because its affordable...
100 Watt
If only 16 inch high tank you probably want to shoot for a 100 watt. Don't forget we have a low price guarantee where we beat the competition by 5%!
Come in 80 watt watt now look for call zoo mad
Sorry, you have to call us... it's a special order but we can get you a really good price on one.
@shampoo02 Absolutely unfounded information... mercury vapor bulbs do NOT give off mercury into the air. In fact, they are 100% sealed and if for any reason the seal was broken they wouldn't even ignite. We would be curious as to where you "heard" this because we hope no one is putting this false information on the internet.
Call us.
