Skate bearing test Swiss vs Abec vs Cats Bearings

  • So I decided to switch my bearings out in my Hockey inline skates and in the process of doing my research I had a tough time finding a lot of info. So I decided to post a video with my findings to possibly help others as well. I'm not recommending any of the bearings tested so make your own conclusion as honestly had I known better before hand I probably would have pulled my original bearings apart and cleaned and lubed them versus being new bearings. This video will show Abec-5, Abec-7, Swiss and Cats bearings. While I'm impressed with the Cats bearings I'm not sure unless you skate a lot that the Cats are worth the price difference over a normal mid tier bearing. If you have any questions let me know and be sure to subscribe and check out my other videos.

    Thank you for the review & comparison. I've been shopping for bearings in the in the range of $80-$100 usd for inline speed skating. So difficult to sort through the hype.

      I will add after a skating session a few days ago I tested the cats leopards again and that same rear wheel rolled 1:45 I'm really impressed with them so far. They got better after being fully broke in.

    Theoretically a bearing will freely spin forever. What matters is will they spin when they are under load and how will they spin obviously a bearing will spin a lot less when under load then when in free spin on top of that when you are turning on say quad skates or crossing over on inline/hockey skates and that equals a lot more stress so the ABEC rating and or swiss rating is just about hardness how durable they are to withstand friction under load not to mention different lubricants creams or oil used on the bearings themselves. I've noticed with my Mission Inhaler skates having the wheels too tight will inhibit spining much more
    The free spin test is kind of invalid, just saying.nahh
    The abec 7 lubricant needs time to break down that's what stopping it from spinning

    Do I need a special tool to replace the bearings besides a sonic pro skate tool or similar? I'm thinking I can do it with just that? Thanks for the video, appreciate it.

    Pretty good spin test and what not. The only thing I want to clarify is that ABEC rating has NO bearing (no pun intended) on tolerance or quality. ABEC is the standardization of measurements inside the shell of the bearings. 4, 7, 9 etc are just different measurements inside the actual bearing. A 8mm bearing could be a 4, 7, or 9 for example, and within that a 4 could spin way smoother and longer than a 9 for that reason.
    What matters most is the brand which you buy from because ABEC numbering is mostly meaningless. Hope that clears up any questions people who see this video may have.

    I have a question for you. I purchased the rollerblade macroblade 100 3wd and it says they come with SG9 bearings. I’m a little disappointed by the spin time on these. Is it normal that they spin like shit? Should I replace them.

    Can't compare correctly if you dont spin the wheels the same each time. You flung the cats bearing and with the swiss you didn't fling it nearly as much. Video is still helpful. As far as the used up abec 5's go, I had some abec 3's i used for 3 years and they spun for days when i was done with them. I think using them for a long time makes a difference. If that is true then I couldn't imagine the cats or swiss after a few years. They would probably never stop lol.

    the abac7 bearings may have hard grease lubrication, needs some spin time to get fluid.

    • @sibbyeskie
      @sibbyeskie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, no amount of breaking will take them from 2 seconds to 30 or something something significant like that. Maybe you'll get up to 8 seconds or so. These slow, stock bearings are just terrible unless you want to go slow and need extra sense of stability (for beginners, basically).

    Bauer uses Hi-Lo bearing sets folks. The higher the rating means less flex. The bearings need a lot of spinning to get the grease spread unless they are prespun at the factory then wiped off. Speed Cream or grease really affect the spin. Ceramic handle heat better and don't rust if in stainless steel so there is that. Unless you skate by the beach like we do in So Cal. Oh !!!! Watch out how tight you crank the axles. Spin test them while tightening start at loose to tight and back out before wiggle happens. That is huge

  • @Locreai
    @Locreai 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the spin test is not a viable test for bearing speed because it tests the bearings under no load. the bearings act much differently than free spinning once a grown man is standing on top of them and they have to move under load.

    I bet the ABEC-7 bearings you tested were factory filled with grease and all the others had oil. I still liked your review.

    • @TushhsuT
      @TushhsuT 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All these bearings are 608 type with size 8x22x7 mm. Check yours, but 608 is used in 99% of all inliners/scooters/etc.
      usually ZZ for metal protection or RS for plastic protection .

    Sorry to say but the way you checked all the bearings is not the right way to do. First of all you may have got scammed for abec 7 as i am using same in my skates and it actually gives way longer spin then you showed for cats in you video. And yes cats are way faster and have higher spin then your skates are giving. Your skate frame has issue in spinning wheels . First get rid of it or rectify its cause. Also the bearings take time to get into their actual potential. I have my BSB ceramic bearing running absolutely fine without much of maintenance from more then 10years and still works like new. You should cross check that you are not scammed with fake once

    Its disappointing that you said yourself at the start that it's hard to find any good information on bearings. Which is true with back to back testing. So when I saw your title I was like, yess! Finally. But then your like these are old abec 5 and 7s. I feel like you should of brought some new abec 5 and 7s for a fair test.

    Remove plastic dust cover, then 2 drops of synthetic motor oil...

      all bearings can be opened and oiled. But for bad bearings it makes no sense, because the balls inside are just too bad.

  • @forestR1
    @forestR1 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    this test does nothing.
    there's no load on the bearing (a bearing can free spin great if it has no grease, and then bind under load)
    the ABEC7 obviously has a higher viscosity grease from the factory that will thin out over time (an hour is not that time)

    Hi Ive got some decent bearings but the spacers in my skates (Bauer spacers) seem to have a massive impact on the spin of my skates, if they are not quite right then they grate or make the spin uneven, how do I fix this ?

    • @broncosguru
      @broncosguru  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would look at just buying new spacers if something is wrong with them. Also check to make sure you have the correct size bearings for your spacers there are multiple sizes of bearings based on the type and size of spacer you have.
