They write their own lyrics and used to be gangsters. They’re also both talented musicians. However they got into rapping because their grandkids used to bump drill and they started to like it and thought they could do it, so they did.
They’ve been dropping music for years tho, they’re no gimmick.
There are plenty of tracks of theirs which are class musically speaking.

It isn't any "cultural appropriation" at all, they were talking about "gangster shit" in the sense of literal gangsters, aka Mafia-type shit. Which they were actually involved in once-upon-a-time. I'm so tired of hearing people talking about "cultural appropriation" whenever someone who isn't black is rapping. Honestly, the term is so overused that it has basically lost all meaning.

Pete( the short one) was rumored to eun with the richardspn gang back in the day. Bas grew up around illegal bare knuckle fighting rings run by his dad. They started doing rap because of petes grandkids always listening to drill. You can star with the older stiff and see their evolution as artist. It's completely insane to see. From "dents in a peugot" to " gangster shit" their whole library is solid. In my opinion "sindhu sesh" or "plugged in w/Fumez the engineer " are their best tracks.

There is an old saying that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. People that get accused of " Cultural Appropriation" may simply be people with a genuine appreciation of other cultures , not trying to claim it as their own . Back in the day short Pete used to run with Richardson gangster family, South London rivals to East London's Kray Twins. Tall Bas was from the South London bare-knuckle fighting scene, and became a music teacher.
Pete got into UK rap because of his granddaughter, then got Bas into it. The grandchildren contribute the up-to-date slang to the lyrics. The rest, which is full of old-school words and style, is down to Pete and Bas, and maybe a third party (who would have to be old enough to know the old-school. So why can't it be them?)
One thing is undeniable...they are the one's rapping! Their lyrics, bars, flows, cadence and timing are immaculate, and the charisma they show as they relate their tales, makes them absolute masters of this craft.
Every one of their 30 plus tracks are different since they started in 2017. Most of them are Monster bangers!
Listen to 'Plugged-in with Fumez the Engineer'
    'Bermondsey'
    'Browns'
    'Mr Worldwide'
    'Sindhu Sesh'
    'Quick 1-2'
