This performance is absolutely gut wrenching, I saw her twice live in the 90's based on curiousity more than anything, as I was a metal and grunge, classic rock guy. Her piano playing and singing were just amazing. When you left her shows, you were emotionally spent. There's no one like her.
Tori was a piano prodigy! Started at Peabody academy at age 4! Saw concert in 1997! Usually 3 pianos around her. Plays them all in some songs! Her song list is endless!!! Crucify, Baker Baker, Little Earthquakes! More more!! No singer writer or performer like Tori. She Makes love to the piano, and many times to the piano bench as well! She’s raw and real.❤❤❤
Caught Tori Amos in Concert when this was just becoming a hit 30+ years ago. She was a fantastic artist to listen to live. You would also like "Crucify" & "Silent all These Years" keep up the great reactions.
I saw her in 1994 KROQ breakfast in bed at the Wiltern off Wiltshire Blvd…. I got to talk to Tori and take some selfies. :) she stole my heart since then.
Seen her live a few times. She's a very intense lady, with a beautiful voice and plays piano like the very best. She once told she and the piano made a pact. She reminds me of Aurora who also completely connects with her songs
Really loved that you did not stop and start as the artist was performing. Nice the captions. I have heard this song and watched this performance many many times. Always feels like the first time. She is still making great music! Also hear her play her Bosenfdorfer.. that is her heart instrument.
My aunt introduced me to Tori and I’ve now seen her 3 times in concert (so far..). She is an utterly amazing singer, song writer, pianist and performer. You can go to her concert, not know a single song, and be utterly captivated for the entire night. She is, above all, a storyteller in her music, using metaphor, description and emotion to convey meaning - and she’s just so damned good at it! I don’t think there are many artists like Tori, her style can be quirky - she can go from light and fun to dramatic and raw; but she’s an artist who has spent her career experimenting with her music and sound, shifting and evolving and I love that. Her lyrics are often deep and hit on all sorts of themes, such as politics and religion, but they’re always couched in deep personal experience which is what makes it connect with an audience. She’s still producing music and I, for one, am grateful!
I love her. Thanks for reacting to Tori. Her emotion when playing live is unmatched, in my opinion. A lot of people compare to her to Kate Bush (I love them both), but Tori is a road tour warrior. Kate has not nearly had the same tour career that Tori has had. And Tori is always with her piano. She could play Mozart by ear at age 2.
Kate never toured and Tori is surpassing her in many ways, proving herself to be the queen of an era! I never thought I'd be saying this because Kate Bush is my favorite singer/songwriter.
Its one thing to be a prolific child piano player.. but to write /sing perform / and connect to the listeners at this level its pure Exposure of human emotions its like a controlled earthquake thats on the edge of happening ...truly beautiful 😍
Glad you got your reaction video on. I’ve followed your Nightwish journey and other reactions, and always enjoy yours. I have been a fan of Tori Amos since before you were born. I’m glad someone recommended this to you. She is a unique artist, with some amazing songs, some of which invoke strong emotions. Silent All These Years, Precious Things, A Sort of Fairytale, are a few of my very favorites. Hope to see you watch more of this amazing singer/songwriter. Love your channel! Enjoy!
Thanks Sabina - my favourite Tori song and I still often tear-up when listening. Beautifully intense is a great description! So much emotion combined with so much control.
She's brilliant. I just want to tell her that the 'Crystal Palace' can be found at Selhurst Park in South London every other weekend during the football season.
Finally Tori Amos😍 my fav. Artist. Looking forward to your reaction to “Blood Roses”, “Sugar” and her special acapella live “Caught a lite sneeze” 🙏🏻 you are the best, you recognize great music and artist at first sight 🔥
I am the same age as Tori and I admire her for only getting stronger in her playing as she nears the age of 60. I am also onboard with her and only letting my age, quite ironically, fuel my creative passions and drive! She is proving herself to be the queen of an era!
Wow. That performance did me in. Heard the song a hundred times, never saw this performance. And I'm not ashamed of the tears it evoked. So glad to have watched this and to have seen your reaction as well.
Listen to the studio version. This whole album (Little Earthquakes) is a masterpiece. Imagine this incredible voice and songwriting, combined with incredibly produced epic tunes.
Somehow, even after more than 30 years of loving Tori and this song (Winter was my very first Tori song), I don't think I'd seen this particular performance. And it brought me to tears.
Just to add to the emotion of this performance, Tori's parents were in the audience, and I'm not certain if it was the first time they'd heard the song, but it's very likely it was the first time they saw it with an audience.
I love her so much I have seen her 4 times, the last being two months ago. you should listen to Precious Things, Tear in my Hand, Jackies Strength, and Code Red just to name a few.
Sabina, I first saw Tori in the mid 90's and her albums got many of us through high school(Along with Tool and NIN). Along with the songs mentioned, listen to Cornflake girl. It's powerful.
@@sabina1118 It is!!! First saw her in in Frankfurt a.M. (Western Germany) in the opera house and it was overwhelming how her voice filled the whole place. Only her, three pianos and one guy on the acoustic guitag. Extremely impressive.
"Winter" is in my top 5 favorite song ever ! and I am 54 years old , I'm from France and had the chance to see Tori live in Paris several times since 1992 , unfortunatly she didn't sing "Winter " a few months ago in Paris Olympia, neither in the rest of Europe and Acually US ...except Amsterdam where she has forgotten part of the words... By the way, "Winter" is and will rest for me one of my all time favourite song with some like "Time After Time" by Cindy Lauper," Show Me " by ABC or "Waiting for a girl like you " by Foreigner.❤
Just found your channel. I love how you don't iterrupt the music for your commentary, and you just add it later by text at the bottom. Much better format.
Great reaction, superb artist. Probably one of the most underrated musicians/artists, maybe her quirkiness is non-mainstream. I was in awe if her talent, her performance, her emotions. Made me cry.
Tori is amazing...loved her since the 90's...when all my "buds" clowned me for listening to chick music, I didn't care. She was worth it. And side note; you have a beautiful smile and face. Great emotions you show. Makes you more beautiful.
I remember this song, loved it and talking about age, guess I was about 20 when this song was released. Me and my sister both loved Tori Amos back then, I wish we´d still had the great brother and sister relationsship as we had back then but life changes people...
It always amazes me why she did not become wildly popular. Yes she has a strong almost cult following of fans, but I believe she needs more credit for her art. I guess only a small percentage of people can really "hear" her art,and resonate with her message.
That was quite a few years ago but I adore Tori and she's amazing still. I've just turned 51 and she is turning 59! I'm so glad you have found her though; it makes me so excited when younger folk discover Tori.
Saw Tori Amos in 91 during her Little Earthquakes tour at a free gig at Reading University UK, she wasn`t very well known then and I went out of curiosity. Little Earthquakes still remains one of my top 10 fav albums.
One of my all time favorite artists. My daughter and her pack of girlfriends were listening and shared with me. Blew me away. Such powerful lyrics in so many of her songs..... Playing piano and singing, both powerfully, at the same time. 💜💜💜💜💜
I'm glad I enjoyed this performance of my favorite female singer Tori Amos is awesome singer an Pianist too.next check out The Video for Raspberry Swirl .an also Professional Widow by her . These are awesome songs by Tori Amos!!
Wow! This is amazing! I love the reaction as text! It added to the experience & invited the viewer, listener into the 5-senses experience. I have Synesthesia, so everything is a sensory experience! Great video!
What a beautiful song, not one I have heard before. Her singing diction is spot on as is her piano playing. The lyrics suggest a life without her father, who sounds as though he may be facing a life closure. I love her ability to project a story with feeling..almost auto biographical perhaps? The range of songs and genres on this channel is why it continues to grow and stand out from the other reaction channels…long may that continue. Sabina..this was a stand out song and the look of thoughtfulnesses on your face said it all for me.
Her father is still alive & has always been a big part of her life. The song tells the story of their relationship transitioning from childhood to adulthood.
This song decimates me every time I listen to it, to this day. "Little Earthquakes" came out when I was in high school and was the soundtrack to those formative years. If you are interested, her song "Here, In My Head" is stunning - highly recommend it!
Tori is my favorite artist and has been for 28 years. I recommend listening to at least the first 5 albums and accompanying b-sides in succession to see her music evolve. There are also a few good soundtrack songs, like Butterfly & Siren.
Fun fact: Tori Amos was the youngest student to be accepted to the Peabody Music Conservatory (five years old). So very talented on the piano, her voice, and song writing. Some of her songs challenge decency and are way out there, but she’s an artist. I definitely love her stuff from the 90s. But buckle up if you’re going to explore her full repertoire.
I think you'd appreciate Sia's "breathe me" (especially the kcrw 2007 performance). It's just as intense and emotional as Tori, if not more. It's about when Sia was at her lowest. Sia was really at breaking point and wanted to commit suicide. (but luckily didn't).; As far as Tori goes, this whole Montreux performance is master. "Me and a gun" is an acapella song about her real-life experience being raped (although the gun was, in fact, a knife). It's defenitely another gem in the Tori catalogue to check out!
Thank you for reintroducing me to Tori: my ex-wife was a huge fan of her. Maybe that’s why i never paid much attention to either, but at least I can still listen to Tori…
Tori Amos is always great at putting raw emotions in her songs. This song has a rather psitive tone. Often her songs are much more serious and dealing with internal struggles. So I back Eric's suggestion at looking into the song Crucify for instance (and be sure to check the lyrics). Tori is also a natural live performer. While her albums are great, she always manages to put even more emotion into her live performances. You can see how she lives her music. Another interessting suggestion would be to see her cover of "Smells like Teen Spirit" from Nirvana. It is certainly one of the most memorable covers because it is so different. The memorable performance for that version is Montreux 1992
Everyone has a bias towards the "original" version of any song, but Tori has a way of opening your eyes (ears too?) to her version of a cover. I love her cover of Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne.'
I must have watched this exact performance a hundred times and always shed a tear. But I haven't watched it since my father died, so it left me quite a mess right now. The themes of fathers expectations, him being proud of you and your own inertia hits hard. I don't care for all of Tori's work, it often gets too jammy in lack of a better word. But her stuff from the 90's are is very good. Cornflake girl, Crucify, Sorta Fairytale, God, Silent all these years, Me and a Gun (dive into that last one at you own peril).
Sabina, you may have to try her song Me and a gun, live at Montreux, it's a pretty hard song but everything you felt during this first listening will be x 10
Hi Sabina, there are just a few songs that can tear me up…and this is one of them. This is such a beautiful song. She has a beautiful song. There’s not that many songs I know from her though. Another great song of her is Cornflake Girl. Not that emotional, just a fun pop song. Another great singer in the same genre is Heather Nova. A few cool songs “ Heart and Shoulder”, Maybe an angel”.
Cornflake Girl is typical for Tori Amos in the sense that it has a deep meaning that is often hidden to the casual listener. The song Cornflak Girl is in fact about female circumcision
Tori had great rythem musicians to back up her piano. Piano is not a lead instrument in most rock groups. I like the way she incorporates piano into her rock songs....right up there with Elton John. Check out on YT Cornflake Girl....live in Glastonbury.
th-cam.com/video/DMnnSwy6zOc/w-d-xo.html Soooo I know it’s been a hot minute since you posted this, I’d love to see more reactions from you on her music. I’m a long time fan (better known as Ears With Feet as she calls us). I first heard her in at least 1994 or 1995, but it may have been as early as 1993. The link is a song recommendation from me, a song called Taxi Ride, done at a super exclusive venue for a tv channel. A definite favourite.
The whole album Little earthquakes is amazing. Interesting fact when she was 5 years old she was the youngest person ever to receive a full scholarship to John Hopkins University. Check out her diet with Maynard from Tool, Mohammed my friend 🙂
_Little Earthquakes_ is on every list of greatest albums as it should be. If you want a live performance of a different mood, try "Precious Things". th-cam.com/video/GJsYQY_ZXK4/w-d-xo.html The title cut is epic; you need the album version to hear this one properly. th-cam.com/video/VzPtNtrNm_k/w-d-xo.html
Sorry but us gen X’s had so much more substance & raw organic sounds and lyrics in our music. Hoping the pendulum swings back to storytelling and music making from scratch. ❤️Tori
Sabina, Winter was about Tori's Father, who was a small town minister/preacher in the Southern US who couldn't deal with her being something he didn't want.
Absolutely NOT what this song is about, by the way. This song is about her father, yes, a minister, encouraging Tori to love herself, to not let bullies, bad boyfriends, ect. drag down her self esteem, the white horses in bed are her potential, and the last verse and chorus are Tori turning it around to him, acknowledging his sacrifices for her to reach her potential, his horses have gone ahead. When her father was trying to find places for then 13 year old Tori to perform, the only places that embraced her were Washington, D.C. area gay bars and clubs, to which her father would accompany her. I don't understand how you get the impression that Tori had written anything negative about her father in this song, there are subtle criticisms of her father and his religion in later songs, but not this one.
Myra Ellen (Tori) grew up partly in a small NC town, so you know she was weighed down when she was younger by the local (lack of) culture and wide ranging ideas.
@@guytansbariva2295 Tori was born in a small NC town, coincidentally, as her parents were visiting family there, but most of her early years she lived in the Baltimore/DC area, where her father ministered, and where she was accepted at the Peabody Musical Conservatory at the age of 5 for her piano playing skills, to this day the youngest person to ever be accepted. I don't think she really had much time to wallow in small town drudgery. She was kicked out of that program at age 11 because she refused to learn to read sheet music and she didn't properly worship dead white composers, she rebelled against classical training.
@@Wungolioth Wow, I'm impressed!! I haven't spoken to anyone who knows so much about Tori in a long time.. She was a high school favorite of mine and our group of "alternative" kids in the mid-late 90's. I saw her 4 times I believe, the latest around 2002 for Scarlett's Walk. I had a Honda CRX in high school with 3 bumper stickers..Tori, NIN, and TOOL. Of all of her terrific songs, I think I like Cornflake Girl the best. Just loved that lyrics and the way it flowed. What a great time for music!
@@guytansbariva2295 I was able to see her at least once for every record up to Scarlett's Walk, probably a total of about 8 times, which is the most I've seen any artist live. I've talked to her personally on a few occasions, she's amazing, and the first time I saw her up close, as a kind of tall dude, was struck by how tiny she is.
Where the hell did this comment come from? ONCE, in a German language article if memory serves, she said she had been sexually abused at the hands of a family friend. Usually she talks about being raped at knife point by a drug addict who she gave a ride to after one of her shows at a small club in LA. It was the inspiration for Me & a Gun.
I cry like a baby everytime i hear this song, I was a daddy's girl and he was right but I never listened. Love and miss you dad!

Tori had great rythem musicians to back up her piano. Piano is not a lead instrument in most rock groups. I like the way she incorporates piano into her rock songs....right up there with Elton John.
Check out on YT Cornflake Girl....live in Glastonbury.

Soooo I know it’s been a hot minute since you posted this, I’d love to see more reactions from you on her music.
Oh, btw, also a member of the NW Army lol
So good. So beautiful. So forgotten ....
The whole album Little earthquakes is amazing. Interesting fact when she was 5 years old she was the youngest person ever to receive a full scholarship to John Hopkins University. Check out her diet with Maynard from Tool, Mohammed my friend 🙂
I like your nails.

She comes from a family of abuse (stepdad) and religious extremism. Puts her songs in a different light...
Tori Amos does not have a stepfather and was not abused by anyone in her family.
@@alittlebitgone right but being shamed for your sexuality by people in your family and the church is still wrong, man.
